Anyone in Melb know a good chrome plater?
Someone who won't charge more than the bike is worth.
I want to do F/F, Bars, One piece crank and seatpost. They'll have to have the old chrome removed first.
Thank's

Hey everyone,
Just got off the phone from Martin and he told me to get my ars3 on over here.
Well, i raced from 81 through 86 out of Sydney and all throughout NSW with 1 or 2 insterstate trips here and there. Just this year my kids started racing and i couldn't resist. Huge thanks to Martin for letting me race is 84 floval (with tuffs!!)
I still see some of the guys from bitd and we have the best memories although none of them care for the OS stuff.
I'm surprised at the number of Aussie guys here!!
Bruce....Sydney, Australia.
BTW, how good is it that our dollar is going so well against the greenback now

Hi HowardinOz,
I used to get all my chroming done at "Sterling Plating" in bridge rd, richmond (vic).....they did a fantastic job and cheap too.
The bridge rd plant is closed now, but the headquarters in Victoria St, Richmond (vic) is still running, although i havent been back since.
I'm also told that Nunawading Electroplating (vic) does a great job too, but a little more pricey, although the end results justify the price, but i havent been there yet.
I can't speak for any others around..

Hi Waza007,
I goto "collins Anodic Treatment" in blackburn (vic) they do about 12 colours, but they DON'T do RED anymore, and have quoted me $20,000 to setup a RED anodising tank again.......
I've got plenty of BLUE and GOLD rims, chainrings, seatclamps, brake calipers done to an exact matched colour from original bits.
If you want RED, you can try "Electromold" in epping?/thomastown? speak to Martin (the boss) and he'll look after your bmx bits,
They do many colours, including RED (yay).
these guys handle loads of hotrod & motorbike stuff, so they're quite aware of colours & polished finishes required etc.

Oh yeh, if you want POLISHING done, u can basically visit ANY electroplater, as they offer polishing services too. (they all have the polishing gear anyway).
You dont neccessarily need to get your items chromed by them to be polished.
Just walk in with a bunch of parts and they'll guestimate a nice price for you.

DISCOUNTS on chrome & Anodising ??????
Hi again, i just thought i'd mention that i get loads of bits chromed/anodised from time to time.
If you guys have a few parts you want re-done, we can add all our parts together for a cheaper deal "batch-process".
My anodiser, and chrome platers have 'minimum $ charges' so, you can take in your cranks and get them done for $20-$40 alone, or, you can combine them with my batch and get them done for $10-$20.
upto you ;-)

Hi Fatnold,
I'm seriously "trying" to get to this years rockford, but need to confirm my savings/budget, only 109 days to go etc....gettin' tighter......
This visit (if i make it) will probably only be a few days, "rockford only" journey, but i plan next year will be a wider "USA tour"
Seeing the bikes, meeting the dudes i buy everything from on ebay, and meeting *the* absolute bmx legends (scot,PK,stu, greg,oz etc) will be something unexplainable !!!!!!
I'm DEFINATELY going to 2006 rockford, and will be representing the Aus (all you guys) presence in the oldschool scene, but i'd love to get a small crew togher to tag along....i dont expect to take bikes over, but maybe a few folders full of pics of Aussie pics/bikes/parts/lengend racers etc.

Hi Ozdirtboy,
Good to see someone else up'n'racing about.
I raced in the Vic titles November 2004, my first race in 21 years, and got 3V (34-39 men) for my efforts.
I'm thinking about entering the AUS titles in QLD in Easter, but not sure if i can ge time off work (just had all of february off for holidays)....maybe next year....the ACT titles is during my return to work, so i just missed them too.
Anyway, good to see more'n'more Aussie guys popping their heads in here, where we can all share our experiences and/or deal parts etc.
Hey Porker, this forum is 6 pages now, or maybe 7 after this msg ????

I rode and raced in Melbourne ' 79 - ' 84 or thereabouts. I come here occasionally for a nostalgia fix. MTB is my thing now. As much as I'd love to build an OS bike , MTB sucks up every available dollar I have , so I just come here to drool at some of the beautiful restos you guys do.
I stumbled on a pair of square splined Turbo cranks recently (minus the spindle but with bearings) Give me a yell at spinner66@bigpond.com if interested.

Mr.BMX, thanks . . . interested to know what's in your collection. As for Rockford 2006, I'm in. I have lots of relatives in the US and heaps of frequent flyers to use.
Bruce, aussie dollar against the USD is VERY VERY BAD news for me!
AussieFloval, I've got lots of spare stuff and all in quality condition but as I mentioned I'm slowly bringing all this back home over coming months. Stay in touch.
Everybody else who wants to race Bruce. The guy is good and very very modest. He won a few things BITD and even has his picture in an old newspaper getting some stylish air. First time back racing and on a heavier, geometrically challenged old school ride and he won his races or placed in the top 3. Despite it's competitive shortcomings, the Floval is definitely an eye-catcher . . . matched baby blue powder, camo pads and 24" black tuffs.
As for me, I race mountain bikes and love riding in new and exotic locations. I'm in Indonesia right now and went out for an unusual ride yesterday to say the least.
Still haven't met anybody else from Sydney besides Bruce . . . anybody else out there???

G'day all - long time lurker first time poster to Vbmx.
Good to know I am not the only mad bastard from Melbourne who still likes to ride old chrome bikes! Going to drag my kids into St Kilda on the 20th for a look. hopefully the weather will be good. See ya there!
p.s. anybody remember "Spokes BMX" and the BMX track (now a carpark) in Mooroolbark?
Mr.BMX
Feb 28 2005, 03:22 AM
Welcome Velocidad,
Firstly, the Sunday swapmeet will be Sunday March 6th, Luna Carpark REAR, cnr of Marine Parade & Shakespeare Grv, Melway 58A11 (this coming weekend).....
I never went to Mooroolbark track when it was around, but i had visited it in recent years when it was a grassy landscaped park by the railway line.....i assume from wot u said, it's now flattened and become a paved carpark ???
If u remember Mooroolbark, then you probably also went to Boronia (knox) track not far behind the Knox Shopping Centre (not todays knox track, down off ferntree gully rd).....
Anyway the old 80's track is still there behind the factories, and very ridable.
Take your kids there, and relive some memories ;-)

My 2 local tracks : Eram Park (box hill) and Koonung Track (koonung creek-Blackburn North) are both under the doncaster freeway now.....kinda hard to revisit them and ride ;-)
I highly recommend you goto boronia mate, it's a gas!

Hi Martin Global, I'm in Sydney, well Helensburgh, just south of. I spend most of my time around mountain bikes but with the big 4-0 getting closer I guess I'm feeling kind of 1981 again hence the interest in the old school bikes. On the way to work the other morning (I was jogging ) I saw a kid on a nickel goose with tuffs and offered him cash for it there and then, he wasn't sure so I gave him my card but haven't heard from him. I guess he thought I was a pervert.

You've raised an interesting point there, when approaching kids etc...
How mnay of us are cruising around in cars or walking, but watching every kid on a bike whiz buy, hoping it's a PK ripper or something, but just as awkward is the feeling that anyone watching you will think you're a pervy pedophile or something.
Try explaining that to the cops ;-(
