Hello all... just got back from two weeks work in Japan - about one week too long for me - it's great to be back home and riding again. I must have seen about a million bikes all told and of them only three were BMX. I think golf driving ranges make much more money for the rich few that own land!
Hey great reading the stories from AJ etc... thanks for sharing them

HowardinOz, love the pic of your daughters bike... is she racing it at club days yet?

Guys, looking for some advice on shipping a frame from the US. Have been quoted about $50 economy or $75 airmail. Asked about insured and he said that it was 2-3 times more using UPS or Fedex. Does all this sound correct? Now the $50/$75 compares to what's been stated in other posts but, do you always choose the insured option and if so which company/service is the best cost wise?

One day I will become a bit wiser about shipping but until then it's a steep learning curve. Can't wait until I have to run the gauntlet of customs which will be in a month or two for a non-BMX shipment.

HI James.. always beware!! check my recent post!! I was quoted $50 then $80USD!! Watchout for those ripp-off yanks!! SHipping a F+F to Australia shouldnt cost you move than $45-50USD!

Hi Mark,
I wish she was that interested!
Maybe in a year or two. It's actually still a little too big for her.
My Son has just started riding his 16" without te training wheels and has taken to it like a duck to water. Maybe he'll show some interest.
I'm looking for a reasonable mini frame for either of them.
How was Japan? I love it there!
Howard
velocidad
Japan? well I haven't been away from my tribe (or my bikes) for two weeks before and that was the hard bit. I always found the J. people very friendly though, the places i went safe, weather good, food and beer etc very good... just way too many people for me. It makes you appreciate how lucky we are here... Mt Fuji was truely awesome, I got by car to the 5th station which was around 2300m alt.

So have your kids spent any time at a track Howard? what area are you in? PM me if you like....

I took my son to the local track with his 16" Raleigh for ages before he had his first club day, and that was at about his 4th birthday in Sept. We are having an absolute ball now! (thx Fletch!) My daughter (6yo) watched from the side lines for a few races and gradually warmed to the idea of having a go, and is now very keen and actually had her first clubbie last weekend -which i missed :-( The clubs keep it all very low key for new riders so just as long as they can ride the length of the track (or at least willing to have a go) no matter their pace - they will be welcome to have a free go to see if they like it. The sprocket classes for the little kids are kept non-competitive just to encourage participation, so a "race" as such is just a matter of 'em riding a lap - no stress at all.
oh yeah, bmx races are a great way to find good pre loved bikes/parts/clothing, there is always something in the centre of the track for sale at the bigger meetings.

Hi everyone...just got back from central Queensland....and scored these in a farmers shed....I know what the pedals are , but what sort of cranks are these?? They are old , light ,good welds , the arms are tapered near the pedals , they take a square spindal , And the spider is removeable. The spider is held in place by a circlip and the usual bolt for the inside of the crank. The old feller didn't want these old bike bits so i gave him $10 to buy a beer. He also gave me some skyway forks ,haro bars(86-88?) some old hubs and some cw (copy) bars. Here's some pics of the cranks. Anyone know what they are???

COASTY
They look a bit like Cook Bros cranks. Not too sure. Whatever they are it's a bloody nice score. You done good Roy!
prosight
Not cooks but i think maybe CW

Hi there all,
This weekend I went to see HI-5 that was cool
The best thing was at Homebush they have opened a new skate park called monsterpark, I think the page is monsterpark.com.au
It is $8 for a 4 hours, big vert ram, indoor section and a mini ramp with spine pretty good but bikes only limited times ???

Hi Mark,
I live pretty close to the Altona track.
Council recently put in a skate park setup next to it. Ramps, half pipe (I think) and otherbits and pieces. Track just sits there unused buy any of the newer riders.
I'll get around to going for a ride on it some day soon. Hopefully if some of the kids see some crazy older guy riding on it they'll join in. Need to run the weeds down somehow. I think the track may be a little too difficult for my kids as yet. There's a fairly big tabletop in the middle which may be a bit of an effort to get over. I used to fly over it...many, many crashes there!
Put a hole in a brand new pair of cords crashing off that TT. Mum was going to kill me!!!
I've got a newer mongoose (hoop D) I've been playing on (has a pair of tuff's I won on ebay...from Marty). I intend taking that over there. Should hold my weight OK (110kg) until I get used to riding again and then I'll put the Ripper around it.
That'll be some fun ;-)
Took the mountain bike out for a ride today.

Did 20k's...damn near killed me but felt good. It'll be a different story tomorrow.

Howard
P.S. You're right...there's no place like Australia!!!

Nice pic Osamas.
I know, 20k's is pretty weak huh?! Some might even call me a girl...once!!! Hee! Hee!
First time back in the saddle for anything other than a spin around the block. Tee'd it up to go every Saturday for starters and see where that leads. (used to ride 100 odd k's a day without a thought...when I was....younger )

hey any of you melbourne old schoolers know a guy called Robert Faber. Apparently he was a state champion back in the late 70's early 80's maybe. He is my wifes cousin. Thought someone might of heard of him.

Howard: man that is a crying shame! yep, grab the mower and get down there! hey I am lucky in that respect, Lilydale and Eastfield tracks are both close by, so throw the bikes in the ute, and we are all riding bmx 10 or 15 minutes later. it's a pity the K's between us - but maybe we can all hook up for a mtb thrash one day? Phil (Rectangle) lives up near Lysterfield bushlands where the commonwealth games events are gonna be held. just very hard to get time off with kids yapping at the heels.

Cool Mtb pic(s) by the way. I am a big fan of Giant myself - I own an XTC2 hardtail, my wife rides an XTC3. (If i could offer some friendly advice? ditch the reflectors before your next ride! you might get 21 k's! lol) hey I'm sure that AC is great downhill, but what's it like riding back up?

Thats cool Velocidad. I scored another Vortex too! This ones a painted one but exactly the same as my boys chrome job parts wise. I'm gonna do the frame and fork in white with red parts and she'll look sweet. Got it from a customer of mine.
I think Robert is from around Lilydale area. Not sure and the wifes gone to sleep now. Shes from that area so I guess he is too.
KOSY-MOTO
Im hanging out for photos... please post aussie homies.. please..
HowardinOz
Sorry Coast, haven't heard of him but that's not saying anything. I only ever raced in the west between Altona and Geelong.
Mark, I thought of taking the reflectors off but haven't got around to it. Promise I'll do it before next going out!
Bike rides OK up hill but it's an effort. I bought a Kona Hoss Dee-Lux hardtail frame (for the heavy rider). Figured I'd swap them once it's out of warranty. I had a new 900lb rear spring made just to see how it would handle and it's alot better.
Only paid $1200.00 new for the bike so I can afford to chop and change a little.
Wish I had bought an OM or Floval though!
Need to replace the tyres with something a little more road friendly for the moment. My mate said he thought there was a Cesna coming in behind him whilst we were riding on Saturday.

well were back! 1500ks and a wow of a time at portland, the track didnt really suit the pros as they were all flat landin the small jumps, but for the young ones and us old farts I thought it was pretty good, for me it was my best ever state finish,3rd in 40-44 cruiser,
my 5 year old raced 5 sprockets and although its suposed to be a non competive class he rode his little ar#e off,he will tell ya he got 5 first and a 2nd
my 7 year old had a ball as well, but my heart was broken when lach my 9 year old crashed in the first corner of the final, after gettin 3 2nds a 4th and a 1st in his motos.talk about the joy of victory and the agony of defeat, but he made me the proudest father when he got up and finished 7th with a tear in his eyes.before I could say anything to him,he said thats racin dad.will post some pics latr,

Count me in for a mtb ride. I'm in Ivanhoe so heading out east is my preferred but happy in any direction. Don't really have anyone else to ride with so it would be great.

Great photo crossrideozzy and congrats to the whole family on the result. What a good attitude your son has. I've seen a few parents behave in a less adult (?) way than that when stuff like that happens. I'm sure he will remember it next year and it will drive him to do even better.

I looked at the quad and will watch the auction unfold.
