Kurt.
That knee started turning any exciting colours yet C? Yeah 18" higher and you'd be speaking to us from the gender reassignment ward!

Today's project. Strip polish and rebuild this lovely big chunk of a Suntour coaster brake hub.

Yes I know it could have been nasty huh.gif

show us the finished project Kurt

Hey Kurt I'll pack my coaster hub up ready to send over for you to practice on! laugh.gif

Happy birthday Mick!

Just got back from Sydney. What rain? Weather was beautiful.
GTHODAD
Damn you Kurt.
As soon as I saw your hub diagrams I started dismantling one of my coaster hubs-ohhhhh the mess Ive made in the kitchen worried_anim.gif

Not having much success with the wedge. Ive filed off about half a mm from the wedge and it only just fits onto the bevelled side. When placed in forks I am able to tighten the bolt a quarter of a turn and thats it. It overlaps by about 5mm. The pics of Tuf Necks in the ads show the wedge can go up much further. Maybe I have a mismatched wedge?

Jarvi
Is that one of the replacement wedges that someone had made in the last few years? Although haven't heard of anyone else with the same problem.

On a different note, didn't ever think I would say the word, "I just bought a Huffy". Photos to come when I take it for a spin.
broke L345
you bought a Huffy because you are no longer Australian tongue.gif , had you have been here you would have bought a Maddison. we need pictures James.

Have you got a pic of the top of the tuff neck - is it stamped?

broke L345
FMF is coming together.

You blokes and your seventies kit........

I have been searching for a decent JMC post for ages, everything that has popped up has been bollocks, this stuck its head up the other day I had to snap.....with so many dodgey posts around its nice to nail an authenticated old one, correct length too........

The DY is getting a small overhaul until the Nomura starts...........

So hard to find a clean one in todays market...

Kurt.
Nice C and B!

Dunno John. I can pull my Pro Neck put of the GT and take some pics if you like.
Kurt.
Getting there...

pr200
Coming up well Kurt......
Kurt.
And done.

Couple of spots of chrome to hit with the Dremel and some Autosol tomorrow and it's ready to build.

She was rough on the outside but like new (but dry) inside.

I love the inside of a good coaster hub. Beautiful, great design, quality machinery.

GTHODAD

I reckon if I file another 2 mm off it would be about right. BTW by design it needs to be inserted into the fork slightly overlapping otherwise it may spin into the wrong posi once you tighten it.
Brisben
I'm thinking being pink it might be a freestyle stem

Does it have a curve cut out of the top plate under the logo?

Possibly the stems that had a potts mod used a different setup ?
GTHODAD
They were caalled Tuf Neck Ace stems. Most of the ace models had a normal shaped wedge, so maybe the original wedge design wasnt too crash hot. Mine doesnt have the curve nor the potts bolt.

Wow just did some catching up, reading the last 6 pages...sounds like some "days of our lives" action going on some other sites...seems to happen every 12 months or so. Now days I'm riding every spare second I have, not really on the forums too much...I have made some great friends on here and the other sites...but I've never bought into year 10 games that some times pop up.

My little contribution...the daily rider Hutch I built about 7 years ago has had a little tune up...feels great! (oh, the zip tie around my cranks is to stop my 2 year old cutting her fingers off on the chain ring)

Kurt.
Looking great Stu!
broke L345
what a clever idea with that cable tie! nice bike Stu.
Jarvi
Come on Stu, now tell the full story about the wheels and chain alignment. Looks much better than before with the extra splashes of red.
pr200
Race ready........

Tis a good idea in regards to that cable tie........my three yr old is constantly playing with my rides...

Lewis
Kurt great transformation.
I finally have a set of these amongst the rarest levers to find going to revamp tonight.
Kurt.
Nice little find there Lew. very cool. Before and Afters please!
84profile
Thanks Jarvi, was trying to put that to the back of my mind....

Son-Lites have a funny offset when used in combination with Hadley bottom brackets....now all good...
COASTY
Beautiful bike Stu. Great idea with the cable tie too. How does it wheelie?
Kurt, Suntour Coasters are the best in the business. Once you've done one they are easier. Some of ther lesser known models are a pain though.
Christian, the FMF is awesome. It's a great build. Should be killer.
Brisben
Managed to get this finished for the Blast from the Past but only got around to photo's today

Hope you like

Great to see you finally got the son-lites on it Stu. Now you can delete that memory of the wedding cake for son-lites incident smile.gif
Kurt.
Great build Ben. Moto!

Went for a family ride today, unfortunatley I just couldnt ride the Quicksilver as its just too small for me even with the GT XT bars and Mega tall seatpole! Anyway, my daughter rode it and found it just right! I had to be content with the skidstar.

Kurt.
Cool pics Reece - lol - love that radio on your Skidstar - we had one of those radios back in the 70s!
broke L345
great pics Reece!

very nice Ben, she sure is purdy! great bike. cool.gif

Yeah for sure Glenn. I've done them before, but not for a loooong time. We used to just pull out the shoes BITD to make them freewheel (for a while anyway...). Even did that to a set of Tuff IIs once.

I was super impressed with the quality of the machining on the Suntour.
broke L345
ooops I think I just got myself suspended again. This is just silly tongue.gif

Don't you guys realise I am switzerland?? I love you all.... laugh.gif I don't dislike anyone, I am sitting here after a couple of wines and thinking ... can't we all just get along ?

maybe not but I like you all anyway. wub.gif

Matty Im gonna try get out for a ride with you guys tomorrow but I can't promise anything, I have to try shift some appointments around.
QuicksilverBMX
suspended? orly? where from?
broke L345
I shouldn't drink red wine and get on forums rolleyes.gif

I was a member at the BMX forum, but don't seem to be anymore. No harm done really. So forget my wined up rant.

that would be cool C, there are a few of us going down.. good3.gif
broke L345
Matt it's p!ssing down here so I don't think I'll make it, but keep me posted next time you're going down please.

Need to warm our trusty thread up..not much doing any more....

I went out for a pedal today...into surfers on a hot sunny day, not exactly a tiresome task...pulled one of my best mono's ever...3.25 km's.... going to re measure with GPS but I was going by the markings on the path...pretty happy I can still do that...considering I'm turning 43 this year....getting cheered on by traffic...was pretty funny...

However, I also ate some grass today...doing a few jumps through the council park..boosted over a mound and came down on some slippery grass....complete wipe out in front of BBQ'ers...cheers all round again...also funny as hell...

Loving the Profile 24...

COASTY
Well done Stu. From Sundale bridge into Surfers? 3 + k's is an pretty awesome wheelie mate. Great fun.

You are a maniac Stu, deadset huge!!

Ha ha I've been doing it since high school...just happy I can still do it...thinking about getting a go pro camera and video so I can show my grand kids my only talent I had 😝
Jarvi
Well done Stu. Had visions of dropping it in front of people on those jumps.

Grand kids? Thought you were going to lock Katie up and keep her away from boys...
Kurt.
Awesome Stu. Gopro footage would be brilliant.

Love the Profile 24! Long time coming smile.gif
broke L345
well done Stu, I hate people like you, there used to be a kid I rode to school with and he'd pretty much do the trip on his back wheel. I still measure my monos in pedals biggrin.gif , infact I can pretty much coast longer than I can mono.

love the bike too.
