Don't know if any of you remember Darrell Lockhart but he took thousands of pictures of BMX from the late 70's until ? Darrell traveled all over the country but took most of his pictures in Queensland. Anyway, someone mentioned that he has many of his pictures and a history of Australian BMX on his facebook page so I checked it out and it is pretty amazing.
Here is a pic of me (105) and Darrell's eldest some Todd (5) from Feb 1979.
Mar 27 2012, 02:11 AM
Yeah Darrell has some very cool footage from QLD. He must have hell of a lot. He posts a heap everyday!
Cool pic that one. Love the old MX Dragster styles.
Mar 28 2012, 01:10 AM
Great pic. Love those early converted dragsters. I started the same way!
Mar 28 2012, 04:26 AM
anyone got a decent chrome 22.2 pole spare before i donate to ebay?
Mar 28 2012, 04:40 AM
Ben had some nice marine grade stainless steal cut to size that is perfect........I am sure he will chime in soon.

We are getting a bad name as a nation that reflects on us as individuals in the "bmx pool" seems some peeps just dont get it, bite your tongues peeps, think before typing and if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all...........I am not dragging [Hey everybody, I'm salty!] over from other sites it just seems this is neutral ground, the boys from TBF and OZ still pop their heads in here, so please all I am begging you, keep the cr@p elsewhere and lets all just get along for phuks sake.
Now that is off my chest, I took the new camera and the new quad for a roll today, the wife I and the two kids went to the "wobbly bridge" park, still trying to get used to this SLR and have not had time to play with it but I snapped the below pic from a good 30 or so mtrs away......still experimenting with lenses but enjoying the camera.
Also took the Changa for a run up to my local last night, was good having a few beers while the sun was going down, did get some weird looks though......going for a pedal in the National Park tomorrow and have decided the DY needs to get out......getting the most out of this at the moment as my interest is fading at the moment, have no idea why, but it seems to come in waves for me...........will see how it pans out.
Pic of Poppy's wheels and mine................
Mar 30 2012, 07:39 PM
Yeah the "fully sic bro BMX bogan international embarassment" thing drives me nuts, so I just keep right away from them. No doubt the idiots have tainted the water on Museum and Society though.
I have so little time nowadays I check in here and a little on Oz, but that's it really.
Mar 30 2012, 07:55 PM
The Society guys are ok. I've chatted with Kerry, Steve and Jake. They understand the situation and just want it left here in australia.
I have no desire to listen to all the poop poop poop, I say again, poop. From either side of the fence. I have hated confrontation my whole life. It drives me nutz too.
If I have a sook and say I'm done. I mean with the topic and the people in it. Not the hobby.
Unlike some I have been a bmxer all my life and that will never change.
Forums on the other hand are just a breeding ground for trouble.
Oh and B, love the pics mate. Awesome stuff. I really need to get a cruiser rolling soon.
Mar 30 2012, 08:14 PM
Thought I''d show you guys my current build.
I've been toying for a while with the idea of building a 26" Dragster/BMX. Just like we'd ride in 78/79.
But instead I've decided to go for an "entry" level real, but low budget, BMX like most of us started on - steel rims, coaster brake, double clamp stem, quilted seat - stripped down and basic - the twist is it'll be a 26". So I should feel like I am 11 or 12 all over again size-wise lol.
Reece has very kindly sent me a steel 1.75" Ukai. Thanks Reece - you are a champ!
Here's the starting point. Just need a powder, build the wheels and get some bars and waffle grips and she's ready to roll!
Mar 30 2012, 09:02 PM
I hear u Kurt, I have a 26" Apollo sitting upstairs & could possilby be my next build.
I'm spoilt for rims though, I have a set of 7x's a set of Ukai & 2 sets of Weinmann rims (one set of them is chrome over alloy), so theres my problem.
Whick rims do I go with.
Mar 30 2012, 09:27 PM
I like it Kurt!
I'm with you guys I'd love to see this stuff blow over, hopefully it can. just seems so silly. anyway.... back in my box I go.
Mar 30 2012, 10:13 PM
I'm with Kurt, I check in here and a little on OZ. Its more about personalities than bmx these days for some people on alot of sites.
I cant be bothered anymore.
Mar 30 2012, 10:18 PM
Its wearing me down too Reece, and not much usually gets to me........time for a few beers and a wrestle with my 5 yr old.........
Mar 30 2012, 10:40 PM
I think you have the SLR camera working well Ben. That's a good photo.
Now why did my fingers type STR instead of SLR in the sentence above. Same reason why I always type BMX instead of BMW I suppose. Looks like it's official, I have a slight BMX problem!

lol. I did exactly the same on another non-BMX forum today and didn't realise for 5 hours.
Mar 30 2012, 10:47 PM
Looks like a great build coming up Kurt. Can't wait to see it.
I am about to go out and strip a frame and build a very similar bike myself.
Funny thing at work this week. I managed to talk the boss into buying a belt sander so I can refinish stems and stuff. I might use it at work twice a year! Always thinking bmx.
Mar 30 2012, 11:05 PM
Cheers James, I am enjoying the camera at the moment aswell.....they are a nice piece of kit.
Nice build boys, I am stinging to sink my teeth into this Nomura, just waiting on it to be delivered, fingers crossed not too long.....
This will be my last for a while, (yeah right....) but it should take me most of the year anyway.....work is flatout and in the early stages of a new business........will see how it all pans out......
Mar 31 2012, 12:46 AM
same crap , different site.. shame there needs to be trolling of people
We have lost enough great people to this hobby lately.
I got sick of showing off my new toys as it was always taken off as another overblinged item..
Another let down is getting banned for sticking up for myself,no surprise there as it was a good excuse for Xavier ..
Mar 31 2012, 01:01 AM
Seat should arrive in Monday Matt as I posted it before the 6pm deadline last night.
Sadly I have to leave my Canon 40D camera in the storage unit again. No luggage room for all the extras that go along with it. Whilst I knew how to use about 5% of it, the clarity was outstanding and it was fun experimenting. The 9 frames per second made shoot action sequences a lot easier than the single delayed shot I get with my Canon point and shoot.
Mar 31 2012, 01:48 AM
Thanks James.. its for my once a year build from here on..
Kids and my racing is where we are at now..
Mar 31 2012, 02:09 AM
I hear you Matt....
And James you got the big banger, I am mucking around with the Canon 600D that has not got the frame per second fire power, but is a great entry level DSLR (I think....lol) as they say, its all about the glass (lens)......I can see this being quiet addictive too...........have to find time to snap a few of the bikes.......hard with two kids under five and a full time uni student for a wife........

........have to find time to snap a few of the bikes.......
Did that 2 weeks ago but it was a pair of forks..
Mar 31 2012, 03:58 AM
Tell me more........
One of your old schoolers or one of the new ones?
Sounds nasty either way....arggghhhhh.
Mar 31 2012, 03:59 AM
I haven't built anything for three years so I have a bit of catching up to do.
I was lucky (well sort of) as I had the Canon 30D and it was stolen so I was able to upgrade to the 40D, upgrade one of the lenses and also the external flash. Martin is the one with the full blown professional setup. Speaking of photography, watched a preview for the Melbourne Comedy Festival last night and one guy was joking with a 16 year old about how we had to take film to the chemist and then wait three weeks to see the photos. Kids these days don't realise how tough life was for us.
Hope the forks were the only thing damaged Matt. That can be a nasty accident.
Mar 31 2012, 04:32 AM
F1 carbons.. got the squeak up at Gambier and with a 6 meter gate, not worth risking my Daughters body..
Once the glue lets go on these forks it times to throw away, sad bit is they look brand new.. so that said, anyone after some new F1's.. LOL
Mar 31 2012, 05:48 AM
know what you mean Matt, I got suspended from a site a couple of seconds after signing up and I hadn't even posted anything.
we all need to take it easy.
ANYWAY, I know what you're saying about the forks it's a shame that they can look perfect but there is no way I would risk my childs well being on it. I really love that you ride with your kids....Very cool, I should get off my middle aged butt.
Mar 31 2012, 02:43 PM
Yeah you are right Matt - kids and family should be the priority. Our eldest is 20 this year. Seems like she was born 3 weeks ago. Cherish them while you can.
Mar 31 2012, 08:19 PM
There has been more activity on here the past two days, and that is due to the fallout on Society being discussed. Which makes one wonder...
I'm done with contributing (by posting) to the sites. They're just full of bitching and moaning, and it isn't just (as suggested on Society) isolated to a select few Australians. Some Americans are really good at it.
The only posting I will be bothered doing now, is when I decide to start selling some of my cruisers. My heart just isn't in this anymore.
There is a bunch of good people on these sites, in Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, Botswana, etc etc, but there are enough of the negative types making it an unpleasant experience brwosing some of the forums.
I do dig that Profile 24 find that someone posted on Oz. Nice..
My 17 year old son, who hasn't been well for a while, just found out he is Type 1 Diabetic... There sure is more to be occupied with in life..
Mar 31 2012, 09:47 PM
good luck with him.
Apr 1 2012, 02:13 AM
Its all about BMX .............and oh poop poop poop, I say again, poop looks like 'Im building a bike again......caught a second bug!!!!
Apr 1 2012, 02:15 AM
Hey good luck with that Mike. You know what it's like as a parent. You'd rather have 100 illnesses than your kids have one.
You know the BMX bug never completely goes away mate. So think long and hard before you sell the stuff you love. Sometimes you just need a break.
This thread on this site remains my favorite place to chat bikes. You guys are such a solid, respected and knowledgeable bunch. Respect!
Apr 1 2012, 02:19 AM
Lol Lew. You and those freestyle Skyways. Nearly as bad as you and DBs with tuffs!
Let me know if you need anything. Have a neat OG set of silver 48 spoke Arayas laced to Suzues you are welcome to.
Apr 1 2012, 03:08 PM
ha yeah I can see baby blue TUFFs coming. Yeah I loved the skyway freestyle bikes had so many of them even had two streetscenes probably near impossible get get now.
Apr 1 2012, 04:17 PM
Profile is an awesome find..
Tough times for a 17 year old, he will need your love for sure Mike..
Apr 1 2012, 11:30 PM
Hey Coasty, thank for the Schwinn bb, perfect!!
Apr 2 2012, 01:11 AM
No problem. Glad it works for you.
Apr 2 2012, 02:42 AM
I still check the threads and I do own some bikes still! And bits
Apr 2 2012, 05:02 AM
tbf is not MY site and i also have nothing to do with who joins. Please dont slander my name
Apr 2 2012, 06:26 AM
LOL Just telling it how we all see it. I couldn't care less about any forums to be honest. They (both) have made the hobby a pain to be in.
I never slandered your name. I never mentioned your name. "Your forum" meaning the one you call home. Not meaning you are the owner. I have no beef. I just don't wish to be on any more forums. I've said that from the start. I was a regular on Rad and VOS. I'm on neither anymore. I am not on the internet much anymore at all.
I' have better things to do with my time.
Apr 2 2012, 07:37 PM
Finally pickup up my first ever Tuf Neck. BUT the wedge has me stumped as it doesnt seem narrow enough to be able to slide up the shaft. Does this look right or have I got the wrong wedge? The wedge and shaft look the same diameter.
The forum Matt does own is called poolsandbikes.com
Apr 2 2012, 08:55 PM
Looks right to me Jon. Doesn't need to slide that far up the quill to wedge in the forks.
Apr 2 2012, 10:46 PM
Looks fine to me too.......plenty of spread/bite in it.....
Apr 3 2012, 12:21 AM
So can you confirm they have the same diameter.
If so then I need to grind about 2mm off the shaft angle. Just so they can fit ion the fork. Or is there a better way?
Apr 3 2012, 12:56 AM
It should go into the fork as in the first pic.
Apr 3 2012, 02:20 AM
Apr 3 2012, 02:37 AM
Apr 3 2012, 02:45 AM
I have no idea but give it a go!
Apr 3 2012, 04:06 AM

Apr 3 2012, 04:29 AM
