You did see Damon. That's filmed in Sydney at Ryde Eastwood and other tracks. Some of my Champion Cycles Teamsters are in there.
Oh yeah Damon did race in the US a few times I think.

Kurt I'm pretty sure it would be 77-78. I can't stop looking at it.

Most of that Video was shot at the 1981 NSW Tilles at Nowra, note the start gate it was the first track in Aust. to use a air opperated sytem.

Collided with a vehicle on my ride to Burleigh Heads and back this morning. Flat tray in front of me and a Camry in front of him. Based on that you know where this story is going don't you? No traffic coming on the right so Camry enters the roundabout, flat tray starts to move and I start to pedal. Camry then stops after a few metres in the roundabout, flat tray stops, James doesn't stop until the flat tray does it for him. Couple of marks on the bars and that was it. Was just able to put my feet down. Guy in the flat tray blasts the horn at the idiot in the Camry, looks at me, I give him the thumbs up and we all go on our way.

Glad you are OK James !
COASTY
Geez James. That's lucky for you. Glad that it was not too bad.
Jarvi
It made a hell of a noise as the bars hit the back of the aluminium tray. Probably looked and sounded much worse that it was and was better that it was not a car as I would have hit lower and gone over the bars into the boot. Didn't even jam my hands into the tray.
Lewis
Great survivor story LOL

Ouch. Man there are some idiots out there. Really glad you are OK. On the Fly?

So on this thread we must have some awesome bike crash/near miss stories. Let's hear them fellas!

I'll find some pics of a couple of mine when I get home from Hobart tonight...
broke L345
Glad you're OK James!
Jarvi
As for Kurt's point about stories, I think Christian and Gav have had the worst. For me the only major injuries are two broken collar bones and a broken nose.

Best crashes that I can remember were on the same day and on an MTB. Screaming down a fire road and caught in a rut that I couldn't get out of and couldn't slow down (refer next crash) so over the bars and the classic tuck and roll. No bike damage and only a bit of skin of my knee. Didn't slow me down and a few minutes later I was going down another hill. Crap brake pads and both on full and not stopping so I decided to go straight rather than try and turn and not make it. Problem was a hole that the front wheel went into. Again, over the bars only this time I landed on my feet. Was pretty happy about that one.

To give an indication of the speed, when we made it to the bottom, we could smell Mark's disc brakes as they were quite warm. I was trying to stop with canti brakes and brake pads that were over 12 years old...

Glad u are ok James...

Here is my bike V. car story and it happened on the Gold Coast outside of Mikes Bikes in Miami . I was sales repping at the time and it was my last call for the day . Had my sample bike to show the shops and had to cross the highway , waited for the red light , got the signal to cross and BAM ! 84 year old red light running lady drives into me at 70 km/h and then hits the brakes , tossing me rag doll style down the road . My bare head made the dent in the roof of her car , totaling it and nearly me . Mike , the store owner heard the thump then the skid and looked up to see me flying past the store ! They nicknamed me Superman after that . Much pain and therapy later all is well now . One lucky guy am I .

I've put this photo in another post so some of you may have seen it before but it still amazes me . Keen to hear other stories !
Fulltilt

Whoops , I forgot to hit "upload" .
Kurt.
Holy crap Gav. That IS a good one.

My story is not really as exciting but could have been bad.

In the late 80s and 90s I often used to do the 24km round trip to and from work on my 10 speed in Launceston.

One day in the early 90s as I took off from the lights over the Bathurst St bridge over the North Esk river, I found I was being shoved hard from behind and the bars were trying to tear themselves out of my hands. I gripped it and eventually stopped. Then I got off the bike and my bike just stood upright - because the back wheel was folded in half and completely wedged under the bumper of a Cortina driven by a bearded a-hole. I was less than impressed said "What the F!" and pulled the bike out from under his car. The douchebag just drove off.

I memorised his number plate and went to the Police, got his personal details and phoned him later, told him what I thought of him and got some money out of him!

COASTY
Geez you guys have some stories! I've never had one yet. I did run up the back of a fire engine on the way home from school though. They're hard to spot ya know... blink.gif
QuicksilverBMX
some nasty ones there, mine are all recent as you guys know, first I ditched the KOS face first at full stroke when the chain came off, then I lost a tooth when I kissed the concrete and full speed.

No need for pics, you get the idea. smile.gif

About 20 years ago (jeezaz, was it that long ago???) I used to ride my mountain bike on the road using slick tyres. Sometimes 80-90k rides.

Anyway, on the way home at the finish of a big ride, I was riding through a busy part of town. I'm sitting on about 32km/hr and this white van is driving alongside me, doing slightly more speed than me (he would have seen me moving on the side of the road, as it was a clear day, and I was wearing bright cycling gear). He starts moving over to the left, forcing me into the gutter, before taking the turn on the left coming up. I yell at him, and thump the side of the van but he does nothing. I grabbed my frame pump and start smacking the passenger window. He then cuts me off, and we both stop.
I still remember looking at him through the window and shouting something along the lines of "get out of that white box and I will stick this pump up you where it will never come out".

He went as white as the van and drove off.

I remember that morning clearly, as if it was yesterday.

I can laugh about it now, but I was so angry. It could have ended worse.

The funny thing is, I've just got a road bike, and I'm starting road riding again. What I am letting myself in for? smile.gif

Great score Mick

Just got my RA10 back from Roberto today - fantastic recovery - the previous owner had a crack at it with 80 Grit sandpaper and I thought it was beyond saving - pics soon

My only off in the last couple of years comprised of a bunch of fat bottomed women on a "shared" walking path at the beach and me hitting some soft sand trying to pass them; and going straight over the bars

the result,

I am now semi new school - titanium and carbon ceramic equipped...

Bwahahaha that is epic Chuck. Like a little one-man War of Independence!

Beautiful bits Ben. Likewise Mick.

That story sounds all too familiar Mike. The more time I spend on the road on two wheels, the less I rate half the drivers out there!
Jarvi
Ben, I think you put together a sort of time lapse photo movie of all the builds and parts that have been place on your table. Must be approaching a decent number by now.

Now, totally off topic, any suggestions on how to sell a heap of music CDs in Melbourne? At a guess maybe 300-400 and range from classical to punk to rock to easy listening to country to pop and includes a number of soundtracks and compilations. The two genres I don't have are jazz and opera.
COASTY
Set up a stall at the markets James...LOL Other than Ebay (very time consuming) all I can think of is the market stall.
