Nice history! Wish I discovered racing earlier - didn't even know it was around that early in Sydney.
AjayVBMX
OH yeah - note the complete lack of a starting gate! Lots of cheating at that time....

Osamas,

I don't even recall reading your post. Maybe label your photos so people know???

As for any of my photos - everybody welcome to copy all they like. No worries.

History Installment #2

In about April 1978, a new track was built at the Channel 10 site at North Ryde, which was an old golf driving range. This track (No.1) was very long (about 60-65 seconds race time) and started at the top of the hill and made it's way down the hill, and had an especially fast stright followed by a reasonable dropoff at full pace. Very exciting. Here's a photo of me in my non-sporsored days (nice rugby short huh?) going over the dropoff. The guy chasing me is Bill Harkness.

COASTY
Oh I remember that track. I went there with some friends and it was a cool Track.
Nice pics Alistair.
prosight
s**t i go and have a beer with a mate and i have 3 more pages to read....lol..you guys talk s**t...lol
COASTY
It's a history lesson Chris. I remember all this stuff!
www.martin-bike.com
There was a John Newcombe and Tony Roach tennis camp next door to that track during school holidays. One summer, my dad sent me on one to get me off my bike! LOL

I'd be peering through the fence wishing I was riding on that track. My wish came true eventually when I went to race there.

Jokeing ..... good stuff guys
Jarvi
Martin have a look at the number plate second from the left in this one. http://www.vintagebmx.com/cgi-bin/ultimate...90;p=237#003553

I can make (I mean find) one in about 5 minutes if you want. Actually we must have had very similar taste in plates as in addition to the white aero plate the one before that was a black series one although it must have been one of the first run because it had the raised lettering and was on clear/white background.
Jarvi
Hey Marty (Mr.BMX) did you get my email? Just want to make sure otherwise will resend.
www.martin-bike.com
LOL James! A cardboard job would set off a bike very nicely. Yes please!
OldSkoolRoy

COASTY
Roy, I finished 1 year after you started ! I found girls and cars. Although we had Leigh Anne Casper to perve on at racing.
