Chris - What were the hubs on the FreeAgent?
The pedals were actually XCIIs.
Looked nice but the whole thing is a bit 'mid school' for my liking.
How much does he want then.
PS: You won't get that CW for any less than $1200.
The 'DX brake lever' is one I gave to thte guy selling it for that build, not for him to sell on.
Also bare in mind the seller has not paid back the original buyer of that bike for getting it in the first place.
:/

SERIES ONE PLATES !!!
Guys, beware when talking about SERIES 1 plate COLOURS.
Remember there's really 2 versions, the original white translucent (natural) plastic with coloured decal panel, then the next model was coloured plastic with same colour decal panel.
So, if you're asking for a red plate, bare in mind it's either red(decal) on red(plastic), or red(decal) on natural(white plastic)....
Something to think about, before you upset yourself with your next purchase ;-)

Andy,
GT pads are on the GT I posted a few days ago. Haro Series 1 is red decal on red plastic plate - authentic Bob Haro. Mr.BMX, I know Series 1s were first released in 1981.
What about the coloured plate versions? Are you saying these are later?
Thanks
Martin

Nov 13 2005, 10:35 PM
Mr. BMX - yeah - I'm aware of the colours
I had a natural plastic with red sticker panel Series One BITD
I'd be happy with any of the variants thanks Marty
I'm assuming this one is natural plastic, black Series One logo on arms and red sticker panel?
I have a solid blue one on my GT, which I just shot some new pics of... added the SR Speedtraps and Tech III lever....

Nov 13 2005, 10:37 PM
whooohooo!!! Nice GT Andy.
AndyDiamond
Nov 13 2005, 10:43 PM
Thanks Marty - I was trying to get it looking as 1984 GT as possible - kinda like taking a standard GT Team or Pro Series and customising it.
Stock items on the GT Pro series in 84 were some of the things in this pic:
Tech III lever
GT Pro Bars
SR Speed Trap Pedals
TufNeck Power Disc
TufNeck Chainring
SR Seat clamp
TufNeck Stem
180mm SR STubular crank
I had some blue Ukai speedline rims for it but I got some Ambrosios and couldn't resist - nicer rims (hubs are SunTour sealed - couldn't get GT hubs - lol)
Also has a GT Epoch head set and nice A'ME Unitrons.
I should be running a Zeronine plate if I want to be totally correct....
...and the pads are repops (YES they are FAKES Jas - LOL)
AndyDiamond
Nov 13 2005, 10:45 PM
Chris - you are dead right on the value of the CW and that's in NZ $$.
I don't really want to build up the 24" Pro Class to showroom condition - may have to pass on the rims.
I'm pretty sure I will sell it.
AndyDiamond
Nov 13 2005, 10:47 PM
Marty - you got that pic of the GT again?
I'll have to trawl back through 50-zillion pages in this thread - lol

Series one plates:
The 'natural' plastic were the initial release, however the coloured plastic versions (Series 1b if u like) would have been released fairly soon after (same year?) coz it didnt take long to start releasing all the other haro plate designs almost yearly ;-)

Nov 13 2005, 10:55 PM
Andy, I'm interested in the Pro Class if it's 84 or earlier. Here's the GT again:

As for the plate - I'd go for the Haro as in mine rather than a Zeronine. Greg ran these in 83. Check out his book on BMX skills.

Mr. BMX is correct - the natural plastic ones were first and the solid ones came later (but not much later - around the same time as the MiniSeries).
You could still get Type-2 plates when the solid colour Series Ones came out.
Can you confirm the first lot of Series Ones (natural plastic) had the rasied Series One logos on the arms or were they decals?
I seem to recall them being decals on the arms to start with...
AndyDiamond
Nov 13 2005, 10:58 PM
yeah - I like the Haro Martin but only thing is GT were co-sponsored by Zeronine in 84 so... you know... LOL
But, I GOTTA have a Zeronine plate for my Patterson!
As far as the ProClass 24" goes - I had one guy interested in it but I don't know if he what I want to get for it.
Not gonna give it away of course - trades are good

Nov 13 2005, 10:58 PM
Andy, you may be right on the decal thing. I have an opaque plate with a red face plate decal with no Series 1 written on it. Was told it's a very early Series 1.

I know I know - I can't find a pre 84 GT here although there were a few....
oh well....
ProClass - I have no idea, someone said 85 but the serial number is J4000239 so that would make it 1984 I would say, especially since someone told me the Eric Rupe I have is an 84 and its serial number is J4000498...
I aint no Goose expert in the serial number dept...

Nov 13 2005, 11:04 PM
All my series/mini ones "series one text" are raised on the wings, however the ones in plastic bags also contain 2 (or 4) tiny "series one" stickers - black text on clear backing...

My holly grail is an all black Series 1. Same as my race plate. I had that in 82/83. So, does that mean opaque plates came out in 81 and coloured plates in 82? Mr.BMX?
Mr.BMX
Nov 13 2005, 11:11 PM
Andy:
Dunno if it'll help you, but my pro-class (20") serial is L3001735. (1983?)

OK - well I have a BMX Action from around August 1984 and it has a Pro Class 24" complete bike with the plastic head tube logo (which I have on mine)...
The parts that came on this Pro Class (not pictured) were exactly the same as the ones in the ad (well what was left of the parts -lol)
1982 for solid Series One colours

MTB, yep, my pro-class 20" WAS black chrome, but it had been bared back to plain chrome by previous owner.
I intend to get it back to it's black chrome glory eventually.

Martin, I'd be interested in the yellow pads and the Invada plate I'm going to need yellow pads for my original GT 24 when it gets here
Although Andy seems to have jumped in here LOL...
He could put the yellow pads on his GT and I could put his blue pads on my GT 26..

Heres the info I have on serial numbers from Randy.
if it's of the 1977-81 era it will look like this...
CH9 334783
Thats an August 1979 frame. C is Chatsworth Ca., H is coded by month in numerical order and 9 is the last digit of the year made. If the C is proceeded by a capital T it's a full chromoly Team Mongoose or Supergoose.
If it's pre 1977 it will have a 5-6 number stamp without letters, if it's after 1981 it will look like this.
[one letter]then 23345564
the first number is the last of the year made, 1982, the rest is sequential numbering.
Don't tell anyone where you heard this, it's all supposed to be top secret amoungst us goose geeks....you owe me.

Sorry you got so offended for using your photo . . . but . . . I don't even recall where I got that photo from! Like most on here, I copy what's good onto my laptop - as Mr.BMX this morning trying to pass David Lucas' plates as his in jest.
If I knew it was your photo and if I knew you didn't like others using it . . . I wouldn't use it!

OK, continuation of Oz BMX history lesson...
The first BMX track made in Australia (just) was at North Ryde at a place called Busaco Road. This area is now townhouses.... I understand it just predated the Windsor track in Brissy, but if you ask the Queenslanders, they might argue the point...
It was set up by Competition Developments, who were the importer of the Mongoose.
I first went to the track at about the second or third race day to spectate as I had seen a story on TV about it and at the time I had a broken leg from playing Rugby. This was mid 1977. A month later, I raced for the first time on a "modified" dragster, which was a big disadvantage against the "proper" BMX bikes like the Mongoose or the Suzuki bikes, both of which had one-piece 165mm cranks which gave substantially better acceleration of the start compared to the 135mm standard cranks (with cotter pins) that came on a dragster. So as a result, I didn't make the "A" grade on the day and only made the "B" grade, which I think I did OK in.
Here's a photo of the "A" grade on that day:

The guys on the line are (L to R):
David Walden, Jeff Keen, Mark Bradley and Brett Ryan
The red bike on the left is the first prototype of the Quicksilver frame, which as others will tell you, was basically copied (with minor differences) from the Mongoose "long" frame of the time. All four of these bikes had the "long" single piece cranks, which made it pretty difficult to beat them on a dragster - I tried to counter the lack of acceleration with top speed, by using a shimano three speed hub. This worked to some exent, allowing me to pass some guys down the back straight and also lead to protests from guys that got passed in this way, that using gears was "illegal" (which it wasn't of course, there were no real rules other than the bike had to have 20" wheels). In the end though, you couldn't be competitive on a dragster and I ended up buying a Quicksilver in the beginning of 1978, and ended up riding that brand until I retired in 1983.
