Guys, a noob question. How can you tell the new bullseye hubs from the OS ones?
Kurt.

Tricky question Adrian. Matt knows his hubs so hope he chips in.

By the quality

Actually, I believe the flanges are slightly thicker on the new ones, and also the edges are more rounded all over. Do you have photos?
I've got both a NOS 1981 set, and some of the er, "new", ones.

the bearing colour used to be a "hint" but they seem to have found the brown sealed bearings again
from the horses mouth so to speak
I asked some questions and this was the response

With the current range of hubs being remade from HQ, We will be advertising them as “NEW”
with no specific visual marks, although our bearing supplier did change their bearing grade some
time ago and we often receive parts in the grey or brownish colour bearings and bitd as you are
aware they were a silver/polished looking bearing and on the rare occasion even a black looking colour.

"The hubs have never been out of production. The process may have evolved but the original design and specifications have remained the same.
The easiest way to determine older sets from our newly built is the overall finish. The old hubs had inherent imperfections from manual manufacturing
where as the newer CNC versions are flawless and have no imperfections. IE: Flange spoke holes, Center tubing grooves, etc.."

I much prefer the original earlier hubs, over the "new CNC'ed flawless" ones.

I beg to differ. If you put both the old, and the new next to one another, they do look different. The flange thickness are different, and the old have a more "sharper" appearance. The machining is also different on the radii on the flange, and also the spoke holes.
As for the polished look, they weren't available polished back in the good old days

USD50 at Empire BMX is slightly better. Of course this one is only good with the larger chains because it's for freestyle setups.
Still doesn't look as cool as my polished Kink one that looks like the old flight crank one. Nice and simple.

It was poorly described on ebay. Bit of luck never goes astray.
I tend to search for "old helmet" and you never know what will turn up. Bonus old half face helmet comes with it.
Yeah I have been watching the prices the Moto 3s draw. Amazing. Real 70s cult items the old Bells.
