Just getting my stuff together for the trip to the Gold Coast. Should be awesome.

Well I'll get in before anyone else does. Managed to crash into a stationary object whilst on the ride today. Did the little kid thing of looking behind and ran into Craig. In all fairness to him, he had pulled off to the side of the path although I was used to dodging idiot tourist who see a bunch of bikes coming and decide the best place to stop is the middle of the path... All in all a great day with a few good views and seeing people I hadn't seen for months or longer.

It took me ages to hunt down a NOS set of gold 7x 24 x 1.75's about three years back. I ended finding some locally

What colour hubs are you lacing into them? I have silver flange/blue centre Bullseyes, but I want to change them out to first gen GT hubs in chrome one day.

Nice gear guys!
So, this weekend I spent a couple of days on the west coast of Tassie doing the tourist thing - bushwalking, Macquarie Harbour and Gordon River cruise, convict ruins etc - and would you believe it I was on the same boat as the president of the Launceston BMX Club. Got to chatting about vintage BMX (he has a couple) and ended up I am heading up to Launceston in 4 weeks for their "Come and Try" day.
So it'll be my first race in 28 years or so. It's a great track that I have ridden on a couple of times but never raced on (this track came after my day).
I know there are a few here that have taken the plunge. Any tips guys???

At your second race meeting when they let everyone ride the track backwards, remember what is on the other side of the jumps otherwise you will find yourself sitting in the emergency room with a fractured clavical. Then when practising for your return five months later, don't get excited and let your ambition exceed your ability otherwise you'll find yourself in the doctor's surgery telling them you need an x-ray, painkillers, a referral to the same specialist you saw five months before for exactly the same injury.
Serious though, do take it easy. Whilst not everyone was as slow to learn as me, more than a few have done some damage thanks to their comeback.

hey kurt - remember that bike time prior to hitting the track is not so you can be fast but so you won't need oxygen when you cross the finish line. also, (and mind you i didn't have a problem with this on my first race) don't try to go too fast. i don't know how many out of control dads i saw bite it who were trying to prove they still had it. finishing the race with your seat back and folding tray in their full upright position is a win

have a blast man!

Feb 3 2011, 01:31 AM
Hey Kurt - I wish our track was like that - they just keep getting "bigger" with pro sections and triples and stuff, that track is the sort of track I would feel more comfortable with.
Just remember to keep the black stuff facing the dirt and you'll be fine

Hey guys......Im back

Had some things to deal with (few personal & non-personal issues) ....working thru them...but all good now.
As Ben said.....yes, my computer crashed ...and for those who know what that is like Im sure u will understand.
Luckily all my files (both business & VBMX) were eventually saved.......phew!!!
Sorry I missed the "Old Coast" event that Craig put on last weekend...looked like a good show.
Working on a few builds...might debut them at "Blast from the Past" in March (if they are ready) or at Roberto's this year.
Kurt - look forward to the call mate

Christian - Congrats on the 10 hole G-Boy! Awesome frame
