Didn't see that Glenn. I've walked across there countless times and didn't realise it gets that much water down after heavy rain. Weird considering the ocean is flat and that's where they hold the Eddie Aikau contest.

I did take a bit hit there last time I went for a swim. Don't try bodysurfing in waves a couple of metres high that break about a metre from the shoreline... Was picking sand out of everywhere for a while.

I went to the Top Doorslammers last night at the drags and I swear I saw James in the crowd just down from where i was sitting, this guy was your exact double, even the height was there abouts! Then I realised you're in the US right now lol

I got something pretty special today cool.gif

Perry Kramer's original round top tube frame

Big thanks to Juan for holding onto this one for me good2.gif

It's been built up twice in it's life, once in red and once in white.....

Let's call this a public EDIT for everyone that follows this thread

The Loop Tail PK Ripper 787878 is not Perry's Frame, is in fact Darrell Young's 1st Team Bike, his very first sponsored ride with "The Bike Gallery", this bike was given by SE Racing to Ben Joy (Owner of the Bike Gallery) and it was Ben who had the 787878 stamped into the bottom bracket before signing Darrell out of the local Y-BMX track in Gladstone, Oregon in 1978

Had the privilege of speaking with Ben earlier today and also to Darrell just now, Believe me when I tell you, they both were like kids jumping in a bounce house just knowing the frame was still around.

I have to apologize and I swear I honestly don't know where did I get the tale of Perry's (I didn't make it up.. Someone fed it to me tongue.gif ), but talk about a rider's frame with historical value (Come on, Darrell's 1st ever bike????, the one that elevated him to be deserving of one of the most awesome BMX Carreers of all time).

AdrianH
Now that is some awesome piece of History Juan. Norm that bike just became even more special.
Jarvi
Stu, I was looking through old photos for a friend and came across this one. Your life has changed a fair bit since this one was taken. Any regrets on giving up the bachelor pad? Don't worry, what's typed here stays here...

Brisben
James, somehow I don't think Stu misses living in somebody else's garage surrounded by boxes of junk and old kids bikes

That concrete floor was pretty cold to sleep on with nothing but a hutch frame box for a doona and a profile pad set for a pillow

biggrin.gif

COASTY
Thats a special frame Juan. Great history for sure.
My comp has died and im on my phone. It sux too !

Anyone got a set of Hutch race bars they want to sell? Pro race bars, the later in the 80's the better.

Hey Christian - are these G-boy forks? (they dont look alloy...?)

MrProline
Thanks for sorting this out Juan..

Been a very busy week for me, sold 3 cars in 7 days to buy 1 special car wink.gif

I couldn't pass this thing up, unrestored with 70k original miles on the clock, vermillion fire/black trim GTHO Phase 3 smile.gif

The bike building will slow down a bit now, have to fill up the bank account again laugh.gif laugh.gif
Jarvi
I imagine that did put a decent sized hole in the bank account Norm.

Reece, pity the poor bugger that looks like me. Having to fight off the ladies all the time...

All of you can relax a bit now, as I leave Hawaii tomorrow morning for Melbourne. So no more beach photos for a while.

MrProline
The 3 cars i sold got me a bit over 400k so i didn't have to spend too much more but it still hurt a bit giving all that cashola away at once wacko.gif

Well worth it though..

Mike, the Oakley shops here in Hawaii had those t-shirts, or similar, for $20 so check online and you might be able to order one. Not sure if the Oakley online shops sends internationally or whether you can find a local retailer that stocks their products.

Thanks for the heads up Jarvi. Unfortunately, the Oakley shops dont sell internationally, and the local distributors totally rip on pricing. I might ask one of our US bretheren to help me out some time smile.gif

How could Ben Joy give that P.K Ripper to Darrell Young in 1978 when Darrell did not start racing until June 1979 ?

How could Ben Joy give that P.K Ripper to Darrell Young in 1978 when Darrell did not start racing until June 1979 ?

Very 1st sponsored ride given to Darrell was July 1978 by the Bike Gallery with the 787878 frame, It was because of his accomplishments as a beginner during 78 that he was offered his first Bike Factory sponsorship which was with GT in June 1979... If you need more facts in order to feel comfortable with the existence of this frame let me know, I will gladly provide you with Ben Joy's e mail address. wink.gif

This one is for you bud... Get your facts straight.
Darrell's Bio (Short)
caferacer
You may want to take a look at the Febuary 1982 BMX Action magazine with the JMC Black Shadow test in it.
It has a little side bar story on Darrell and states that he stared racing in June 1979.
I spent two weeks with Darrell in Australia in 1981 when i was a JMC factory rider and also recall him saying he started racing in 1979.
I have both Ben and Darrell's email address , so no need.
juanrmattos
So shoot them an e Mail then, I spoke to them a coupe days ago... No doubt they will set your record straight

Darrell raced novice all his 78 season, his 1st Expert ride was GT 1979
JMCGT
You are a worry mate, long walks on the beach and two weeks with another bloke..

and all out of a magazine, next you will be getting info from the Museum Damon
juanrmattos
tongue.gif Here Ya' go tongue.gif

caferacer
Do'nt know where the long walks on the beach came from ?
I was only 13 years old at the time, it's o.k though no strange stuff going on just racing.
caferacer
Juan, if Darrelll was on factory G.T in June of 1979 why would there be a photo of him racing on the P.K Ripper at the ABA Fall Nationals in Tacoma , Washington in the December 1979 Bicycle Motocross Action magazine ?
The fall nationals have allways been the last weekend of October and he's still on his P.K ?
With what you have written here he should be on a G.T for a few months a this stage.

Mmm.......original GOLD paint on a G-Boy frame...supa-70s-sweet! smile.gif

Kurt.
That gold is beautiful Mick - very like the early PKs too. Just love the 70's!

Come on guys. This thread has moved past that sort of drama. Keep it to PMs.

Sweet gold hey Kurt!

Decided to do a mock-up of a basic Mongoose.
Thick gauge spoked Ukai's with coaster brake, Black Kashi seat, Ashtabula cranks, Mongoose snowflake, Alps bars, Goose grips & goldstem.
None of the parts are restored...just wanted to bolt it together & see what it looked like smile.gif

Kurt.
Beautiful Mick. Just what Gooses used to look like in the late 70's and early 80's. Amazes me how many builds today have lost that feel. Sweet.
