that's a nice RL - I always loved the red and white redlines. What are you doing with the pedals?
www.martin-bike.com
Nov 10 2005, 05:33 PM
Nice! That was my first race bike as a kid, but a chrome version. That's definitely on my list.
I had an Elina lightening bolt seat on my original bike. They use to be rare as until the Hong Kong mafia got their hands on a huge stash. They're going for just $70 now.

so you are the one that got AussieFloval tuff...they were a very nice set to...

The pedals are used but nice DXs.
The end caps are pretty good - they just need a clean up.
I have some NOS MKS pedals in red but the DXs look kinda cool, even though they are not NOS.
Most of the rest of the bike is NOS apart from the V-bars.
They are Redline Vs but they are pretty banged-up on the cross bar. They'll be covered by a pad.
I also stuffed-up the placement of the fork decal you see in the pic - I had it on upside down and had to pull it off and re-apply. Fine for pics but not 100%
I was pretty happy to get that DiaCompe lever and the Oakley .5s.
This frame and fork was given to me by Steve88 - it was pretty poked so this is a nice little 'salvage job'.
The wheels are red Ukai box (from Waza) and SunTour LF hubs, black fat/skinny Cheng Shins (awesome Comp III copies).
I have some beat up Redline vinyl pads to put on there too.
AndyDiamond
Nov 10 2005, 05:47 PM
Marty - yeah the Hong Kong boys have really got the market for Elina seats into shape.
Still, if you want blue....
The Redline has a NOS black Kashimax Aero that I had 'laying around' that I though could be put to good use.
The frame and fork originally came with a red Elina Redline seat which someone else has - I'd like to get it back and put it on this (even though it's pretty used).
This also came with a Redline fluted posted which is cleaned up and used on this build and a Redline Brute stem.
The stem was faded pink so I caustic soda'd it and put it on my GHP.
That is just a standard SunTour stem on this build.

Yes, GT pro is 18.5" from centre of the head tube to centre of the seat tube. Expert is 17.5". Here's my expert built up - original chrome and decals in awesome condition:

Martin - did you try that guy for thr black GT decals I sent you the address for?
I'll post some pics of my 84 GT Pro - it's been 'finished off' now so due for some nice new pics.
Chris - I recently hooked up my mate Steve88 with a 1983 Reynolds Quad. It is painted the same colour as your tan Ripper and has black unstamped Landing Gear with tan LG decals.
Completey repainted - almost NOS condition.
It's real cool but not built up yet.
I managed to get it for $300 US including a 3-piece BB and Hatta headset included.

chris, i bought my quad on pommy e-bay about 4 months ago. Frame, fork and original padset cost me GBP 200. Took about 8 weeks to arrive. They come up on uk ebay quite often - usually the same ones cause they set the reserve too high. Alans have had a red one for months at GDP 350. There have been a few for sale in the US but getting them shipped is a nightmare. I've been chasing a looptail quad but I've given up - the last one I saw went for US $1000

Boys :
As long as you prepare/repair the frame, ANY frame can be chromed !
There's nothing impossible about filling holes or rust bites then smoothing over ready for chroming.
Martinbike :
Black-backed GT decals ??????
BITD they were CLEAR backed, as used on Greg Hills Blue GT Pro F+F.
Chris:
DCBMX Has a quad frame and or quad F+F on the bay now.

Yes, black backed - here's part of the 1983 GT catalog:

I got the info from a reliable source that these decals are black backed and not clear backed.
Although looking at that pic from the catalog now, doesn't seem to have the white lettering as with the repros. Hhhmmmm, maybe they are clear backed and I can finish this damn build!!!

Huh??? Posted twice - weird.
I think that catalog pic may be from 84.
Hey Chris, can you post pics of your blue GT clearly showing the decals please? Thanks
Mr.BMX
Nov 10 2005, 08:18 PM
Strange, as i currently have clear ones here, and have only ever known of chrome/clear backed ones BITD......
I wouldnt have thought GT would make such small runs of blue, black and other colours for their limited colour frame range, which is more than likely the reason the went with CLEAR....
As for your chromer, he's an idiot !!!!!! ;-)

The Quads for sale in UK are total rip-offs.
£300+ is just someone's idea of a joke.
For a 1983+ Reynoylds Quad in NOS or retsored condition you should being paying no more than $350 USD.
Looptail Quads are a differrent story altogether and yes, $1000 US is not uncommon.
As far as shipping goes - I'd rather have stuff shipped from the US - it's way cheaper and faster.
The Quad cost a tad under $70US to ship here and got here in 4 days.
UK shipping is expensive and can be nightmare for larger items.
DC (Darren Chan) is a straight-up seller with the best prices and the best shipping prices on the planet.
You can't go wrong with getting something from him.

GT decals - yeah, clear was a 1984 thing.
They were all chrome-backed up til then.
The retail frame colours up to 83 were chrome, red, blue and black.
All had the chrome backed decals.
I've seen a couple of black pre-84 GT builds with seemingly clear backed decals but I know Randy did some with black backing for black frames.
