Kurt.
So the Mountain Bike version of the 26" Quicky has a welded on derailleur bracket Reece? Or do all the 26" Quickies have that bracket?
Bradster
That Stu movie looks GREAT..where's the popcorn!!!!

Reece - yeah what is the go with the derailuer?? Some trigger happy folk on the bay!! laugh.gif
Brisben

I've seen a 26" quickie without the bracket (at robertos)

different serial prefix too

Just a quick point

If you happened to strip most of the parts off it, including the seat post clamp - why wouldn't you just remove the Alloy post out of the Cro-mo frame rolleyes.gif
broke L345
Waz, you make me sick! Alright I'm just being envious again. the RRS is a pisser!

Reece I had some of those clamps on my 76 crossrider MX1.

Well the thing is I thought that frame was a 24" but you make a very good point Kurt. Quicksilver marketed the 26" as a mountain bike and added the tab at the back for the gearing set up so it must be a 26" frame because as far as I know they never a did the 24" in the mountain bike. The 26" frames that were marketed as mountain bikes all had the "MB" prefix as well as the tab, all other frames had no tab and "CR" as the prefix ( I have a CR frame here)

note: info courtesy of Pete Porker. wink.gif

If thats a 26", its the first one I have ever seen on ebay and should go for a pretty penny. smile.gif

This is my frame (prior to re-chroming) no tab and "CR" pre-fix

Iwantotbuyahutch
My 26" Quicky I owned BITD never had the derailer nor the tab. For some reason the CR in the serial number sounds familiar, but that was a long time ago!

I reckon I would get the angle grinder to the tab prior to rechroming if I owned it. What a dumb ass idea marketing them as mountain bikes! laugh.gif
Kurt.
Thanks Reece - cool info.
diavolo
once again - you guys blow me away!!! awesome builds - all of them - that blue quaddy is ace though...

waza: your network is amazing - how you keep coming up with these NOS treasures is beyond me [and my wallet too i bet!!]

i am definitely booking in for roberto's next year - the viddy was great but the slideshow pics are unreal - is it just me or do the bikes look better than when they originally came out!! you guys do such an unbelievable job on restoring these classics - i only hope one day to have ONE of the bikes you so proudly [and rightfully so] show off...

anyway, thought i'd show you guys what i've been up to lately... just so you know i'm legitimately trying to get into it!! i've been scrounging around and cleaning the uncleanable, selling crap on ebay after ravaging any old bike for decent parts. sifting through the crud and selling it so i can afford the good stuff. picking up freebies [thanks christian and ozbmx dude!!] and pulling them apart [the crossriders have taken me weeks to pull apart - the black comet was so rusted!!] anyway, for me it's like the thrill of saving a lost dog!! and half the stuff i could never afford if it didn't take weeks to clean up!!

so, i've managed to get a few projects going. oh, any help or suggestions'd be much appreciated!!!

1988 HARO FST [yes, the one i've been going on about for ages...]

parts list: haro group one stem head, anlun stem, haro fluted seatpole, diacompe hinged clamp, acs860 brakes and one lever [still looking for another one!], viscount dyna seat [gt markings though], haro bars, oddyssey gyro [1], skywayOE 6 spoke tuffs, suntour sprocket, original blue haro chain, haro uni directional chainwheel, haro cro-mo 1 piece crank, vp300 pedals [til i can get the mks grafights or something], haro forks, static forks pegs, hatta headset, original 1984 ame grips, [also have new ones]. there's other stuff i wouldn't mind a bit of help on.. i've got diacompe techIV levers in black if i can't find the lhs acs860 lever, i've also got diacompe bulldogs NOS ready to put on in the meantime till i get the full acs set up. need cables too, anyone help me with what sort i need to get because i'm pretty sure the original oddyssey gyro's used different cables to the newer ones - is that right? i've got some old torker graffiti tyres on the mags, but am trying to get some oddyssey barefoots or panaracers for them. any help?

[1978?] crossrider comet blue

i love the crossriders - i just think they're the best looking aussie bikes, although them quickies and roos are damn nice too!!
all original bits so far, except i can't get the bloody headstem off the bars, so i'll either have to grind them off {aaarrrggghhh!!!} or find new bars and stem for it. i've got araya 7x's for it, but they are covered in paint, anyone know how to get paint off alloys? also got ame grips, sugino chainwheel and crank, need a seat and pedals, hey danny!! can you give me some advice on the pedals and parts i'd need for these two crossy builds? i've also got some 6 spokes in white on the way, i know they aren't era correct, but i reckon they might look good on it. still might put the yellow tuffs on the blue crossy and the 6 spoke white ones on the black crossy for more era correctitde...

[unknown year] crossrider comet black

got yellow skywayII's on the way for it, compIII copy's, i think the clamp and stemhead are suntour or polygon, not sure though... am i an idiot for thinking that? this black crossy is actually giving me heaps of grief at the moment, the seat pole and stem are well and truly stuck in there. i've let them sit in wd40 and rp7 for a few weeks now and i still can't get them out.. any tips on getting stubborn poles, etc out of frames without frame damage?

anyway, if anyone can help me along with advice, etc that'd be awesome. you guys have helped me heaps so far and now i've actually got projects on the go i need advice, minor parts and tips more than ever!!

whoa, i think this is my longest post to date... thanks fellaz in advance for any help..!
Kurt.
Good stuff Diavolo - some good projects there.
Volcano
Awesome Diavolo! Will be good to see them built up mate.
QuicksilverBMX
huge effort diavolo!

looking forward to the finished product!
diavolo
thanks guys.
been hands deep in OA again today, results are great. so cool when you get a 1 piece crank that's completely brown then voila! it's nice shiny chrome action underneath... makes me happy...
frames going in this weekend. that blue crossy was covered in silver spray. i've been slowly rubbing it back to the original blue. i think i'm gonna do it as a survivor first to see how it comes up. then most likely take to the powderman in hastings and get it done black...
can't wait to ride these babies, then i'm gonna figure out which one to 'take all the way...' hehehe...

End quote:

Dead right on the serial number markings at Competition Development & Quicksilver bitd as far as the hand stamped frames went.

I still can't quite put my finger on it , but it made me chuckle to see that frame welder "X's" 26inch "Mountain Bike" frame ended up
being built into a showroom stocker.....then again maybe it's just the Ebay photo's that make the frames angles look odd or I remembered
something incorrect that Mark Bradley told me at the bikeshop bitd.

The EvilBay frame auction looks more sus than the frame anyhoo , good speak engleesh plenty mate.

Payup sucker , er I mean winning bidder.
