I don't know about you guys, but I am really glad that this Aussie thread is here on Vintage, otherwise I would never have joined up to this forum. With most of the other threads, you seem to just get this weird F U attitude. Maybe it's just me.

Long live the Aussie thread!
Almost built up my Hutch pre-serial Pro Racer RRS bike. When I finish tomorrow I will post up some picks. The chrome is scratched in parts, but not bad nic for it's age. I will probably get it either re-chromed or powdered after the RRS series. Does anyone know who in Brisbane can do a good re-chrome job on frame and fork?

It is interesting you say that. I've noticed a pretty big change here in the past 12 months or so. A lot of the original members that were on here have moved on, left the hobby, or maybe spend time on other sites. The vibe isn't the same.
I have to be honest, I check this thread out first when I come on here, and most times, thats it. The retro forum is good, but I dont go in the Vintage BMX forum much now. Same with the BMXMuseum. I really only check out the New Zealand thread now, and thats about it.

So the guys at Geelong really know what we want?
For example - don't buff out the serials, go easy on the welds so they still look nice?
(Matt do you know how picky John is!!!)

That would be something one would discus with the chromer yourself ..
I have a guy in Melbourne that does great work,but $300+ f/f
where as Geelong is half and very good at what they do especially if you wish to still keep it as a rider..
Did you see Adams Nat Pro ,Ben.. it was a Geelong job.!

Well, I think a lot have gone to OS, yes. I know I have more.
I've really gone off the "cowboy" element at the Museum. I was starting to spend a bit more time there, but the "buy repro, and build a lookalike" and the apparent "anti serious collector" feeling over there puts me off. The final nail was the guy openly scamming on that ebay auction with the inferior GHP. He was tolerated, even when he got abusive.
I've found there is a lot of misinformation over there, and I find more of it creeping into here (not this particular thread though, I really enjoy this Aussie thread).
OS has tighter reins, and it is more serious collector orientated. I honestly do prefer it there.

Mike I find myself on OS a lot more too. Sure some guys can get narky at times but they love what they do and I respect that. They seem to know everything that needs to be known as well. Huge amount of info over there.
I have been on this thread for quite a while and it's by far the envy of the other forum sections. We ROCK!!
This site seems to go through stages more than the others. It's the biggest so I guess it gets a lot more traffic and brings the dregs with it sometimes.
Matts catching up in posts so I'm gonna be here for a while yet!
Nice pants, too mate. I'm serious too. Past my time but they scream mid 80's.
Oh and theres a chromer on the Sunshine Coast that does frames for $150 or there abouts. Quality is ok from what I've seen. I'll find the details for you.

Great work Coasty, I will give them a go.
Here is the Hutch I bought for my RRS bike. Just went for a spin down the street, and I got to say, it feels like home. There is something about the geometry of Hutch frames and just feel right to me. Anyway, not wanting to preach Hutch to anyone that doesn't like them, it just feels strange that you can not ride a bike for 25 years, get back on it and all of those familiar feeling come back! Awesome feeling!
Sorry about the photo, I was trying to be arty and it ended up farty. The bike looks a little like the Kuwahara because all of the parts came from it. It's a pre-serial Pro Racer with non-drilled forks. The chrome is not bad and it has virtually no rust on it, not even around the bottome bracket. But it just has those fine chrome scratches in areas that get the rub from brake cables and along the outside of the seat and chain stays, that probably used to get pushed up against the other bikes in the garage.

I took a gamble because the seller had a low feedback count, but it was 100%, and the pictures were a bit crap. But I was sure it was int good nic from what I could tell. I was lucky.

John
I kinda know what you mean with the hutch frame
of all my 20" bikes I reckon I could ride the Pro raider (which I think has the same geometry)
I was walking it up to the ute to take it to Robertos and it just said to me - have a ride - I jumped on and it felt right (even though I didn't ride that far because it was only finger tight after a clean up)
Maybe I should tighten it up and ride it a bit... (might possibly change the tyres)

Wow, Ben, I checkin over your Hutch at the show, saw the grips and thought wow...but didn't even check the tires!!! double wow...
Hutch geometry...IMO opinion was/is perfection...with a long stem, DK or Hutch, they are still plently roomy!

That's right Stu! I would lovev one of those as well! My second frame (the crack up replacement) I think had that sticker, but I don't think the original one did. i might e-mail JDB and see if he has ever entertained making them.
That was good fun on Sunday. Let's do that again, except we need Leroy and Craig there as well. I am totally knackered today though. Went for a run Saturday and did landscaping at a neighbours house before and after the BMX session. finished up in the garden at 7PM.
