...not a lot of loose change right now!! Wedding/honeymoons...and I thought collecting could be expensive!!!
Hopefully you're only collecting one wife though Stu. Still, I've heard the running costs are pretty high even after the initial outlay.
Matt/Minna - congratulations
Waza - At this stage count me in
Adam - looking forward to the black GT. One of my self imposed rules is the stickers must be the same background (or clear) as the frame. Love the coloured GTs though and a ice change from the chrome.
Martin - You must have lost a few months of your life over the years worrying about stuff turning up.
The thing that makes the VDC clamp look extra cool is the reflection in the seat post.
Must admit as I pack up all my BMX stuff that my interest has been lessening lately. The last few pages have made me want to get out there and build. 1 Haro Sport, 1 Mongoose Motomag, 2 GT Pro Performers, 1 PK Ripper, 1 Floval Flyer.

They are juniour size but might look good in you collection.
That red VDC 24" is awesome and that VDC seat clamp is very cool.

Okay, feeling left out... got nothing to show except a mock up build...showing the poor lonely KZ-1 with no blue Elina and no blue IRC Z-1's (it does have blue knarler knobbies in waiting as an intermediate subsitution)....needs chrome, anodising, correct decals and lever to be totally OEM....slowest build I have to date (cause we don't talk about the Profile 24 anymore!)....
Got this

Stu I'm pretty sure the pads are right.
I'm chasing a blue Elina as well... I'm doing an Eric Rupe Profile build. I went that option vs an all Profile build. Figured a blue Elina would be easier to find than Profile pedals, hubs, seat post, stem and handlebars.
I have a NOS white one if anyone wants to trade???? huh huh come on

hey guys,
still looking for a vintage starter - have found a torker 'qualifier' - i reckon it's more mid school but can't find anything about it anywhere. may be an australian only release but not sure. don't have pics, it's still in store, but if anyone has any idea about when it might be from, etc, that'd be awesome. any help appreciated!!
i am looking for a Haro, Mongoose or Torker pre 86 project to get me started. also looking for tuffs in black, blyue and white, but will take yellows or reds as well. will pay good spondoolies for 'rider' tuffs!! not too fussy at this stage. any help there'd be appreciated too!
but i'd really love a 1978 project, to match my 1978 HZ panny i am in the middle of restoring.
so if anyone can help get on to me! studio@evilbackwards.net
thanks!!!

i've found a pic of what this torker 'qualifier' looks like. when i read the forum thread it seems they've been told it's an 89 build but haven't had it confirmed yet. any further info'd be great!! thanks in advance peoples...

Mar 18 2009, 01:27 AM
yeah, me too. i have a holeshot which took me while to id, but christian told me it looked mid 90's coz of the brake set up which was introduced mid 90's. the sticker graphics on this 'qualifier' make me think it's from the same era, but the info from where i got this pic from reckons 89? if it is 89, that'd be good, but i can't really see it when you look at the graphics on other 89 era torkers.
still a mystery. i'm gonna try contact planetX - he seems to be the torker wiz although maybe more old school and this definitely looks mid.
still not a bad looking ride [the one i'm looking at - not the one in the pic] - it has tange gyro [is that right?] and a seat which was the most comfy i've sat on, some air cell thing.. some of the parts are in great nic and it was really quite light.. i might be talking myself into it, but i'd love more info first!!
thanks for your help GTHODAD!!

1978 some nice bikes to choose from, Torker, redline, Mongoose, I love the late seventies.

My next GT is going to be black. Got the stickers the other day.

I always liked those decals. I had a complete set of those a while back. I cant for the life of me remember who I sold or traded them to.
I dont know wether anyone realises, but those decals were only used on the black chrome framesets, that were only available in 83. The stand black powdered frames (along with the other powdered, and chrome plated frames) used the standard chrome decals.

Stu!!!
That's what the Bike Builder section on my site is for - dating parts. I have nearly 2,000 images of components on here, all cropped and in era correct order with ads to substantiate where I can. I update this all the time:
PARTS DATING RESOURCECheck the "Pads" section. The earliest reference of Kuwahara pads I found in velcro so far was in 1981.
In another section of my site, I have bike ads among tons of other cools stuff - over 700 images there:
BITDYou'll see pre-81 Kuwahara ads without pads.
If your build is for the 81 ad, you're cool to go with the pads. I am (I have the correct wheels now since this shot) . . .

Hope this helps.

I miss my KZ-1, yours will be spot on Martin and yours is looking good too Stu. But I made a decision to downsize and I am going to stick to it! By the time I am finished I will probably only have the following bikes:
1980 Quicksilver
1980 Proline
1982 Quicksilver Helium
1982 ET Kuwahara
1981 Mongoose Motomag
1982 Quicksilver 26"
1985 Kuwahara Nova
1980 Moosegoose
1981 Quicksilver team frame
I will be selling my KOS cruiser in the coming weeks as well. I just didnt have the space even with my new shed. I will probably regret it in years to come but at least I will still have a few left

Yup, they are terrible grips, but I have two ad's. One shows blace grips and the other shows blue grips, also one shows silver post the other shows blue, one has the brake lever on the left hand side and the other shows it on the right, also if you want to get super picky, the white cable clips....must have been a few variations on the same theme....

The rear tyre on the 2nd bike looks like a snakebelly but the front looks to be an IRC super MX-8 though I could be wrong. Also the stem on the second bike is a Suntour mini stem, hence the Quill is the same colour as the rest of the stem

Kuwahara tended to use substitute parts ie. if the SunTour hubs were out of stock they might use Suzue instead.
So small differences are actually correct.
However they did tend to colour co-ordinate their full bikes so blue grips on a blue bike is more
factory'.
Here's my KZ1 build again.
The frame set is early 1980 Tange-made and one of the first imported into the US with custom gold decals.
Frame set was owned by Jeff Haney and Darren Chan respectively.
Apparently imported by Everything Bikes.
Built mostly to factory spec with some tweaks - grips, tyres, headset, pedals, brake pads.
Currently downsizing collection so open to stupid offers - lol.

Was an interesting night for me. Fortunately no bikes or cars we harmed. The roof let go about 3:00am and stopped about half a metre above my two cars. Took a bit of cutting to be able to open the garage door to get the cars out and then let the rest of it down.

ps did you have 20 cartons of NOS Haro's in the ceiling?
Jarvi
Mar 18 2009, 09:56 PM
Thanks guys. Nothing damaged except for my lungs with dust. Woke me up with a bit of a fright. Nothing in the ceiling. It has already moved a bit but hadn't got any worse and maybe the minor quake late yesterday afternoon had a bit to do with it. The house did make a cracking noise at the time. No signs of water damage although I have had a decent sized crack across the floor for years. Perhaps the house is just a bit out of shape and it just let go. I probably won't get it replastered (thanks for the indication though Stu) as I'll be moving out in a couple of months and renting it out. Besides, whilst they look nicer with a proper ceiling, the storage space is useful. Now I just have to take all the broken up pieces to the tip. Will probably be a couple of car loads.
No Adam, I didn't do it myself. Smart enough to know there are some things I can't do properly.

EBAYThat is Jeff Haneys white RRS 24. He offered it to me about 12-14 months ago. You know, I came soooooo close to buying it, but I was in the middle of the Kuwahara 24 deal. I sometimes wish I had taken it up.
No more for me. If I was to go after anything else, it would be a JMC 24, but I would be letting go of at least two of my current ones to fund it. Right now though, the vintage bug is kind of flat
