COASTY
hahahaha I'll hire a bobcat to be able to ride that pit!
v8ute
that ringwood bowl was nasty, i remember riding that in about 90-91, i swear some nutcase bmxer or skater with a deathwish designed that bowl
Mr.BMX
Aahhh spinner/pinky....

I was about to send those same pics myself to share with the guys.
Hey, you'd know, how much bigger was ringwood compared to parkdale? (i never rode parkdale).

And yeh guys, if you've never ridden ringwood, you dont know what "scared" really is.......that bowl was a big mind-**** to overcome getting air or dropping into it.....

We should have held the bmx show at the ringwood bowl site, on that sacred ground to show respect to the beast that sleeps beneath ;-)

I'm heading out there in a few days to take some pics of what's left of it (grass) for the memories.

Hey if we're all gonna dig it up for a ride, it'd almost make a good bmx movie, all the other bmx movies are just as corny hehehehe.

Ride Hard,
Mr.BMX
dugga
thanks spinner, oh man that brings back memories....yeah marty like you said that first fly out or drop in was freaky but it was a rite of passage.
KOSY-MOTO
WOW great classic 80's photos.. HEY fellow BMXers.. QUickie or proie.. can we post the flyer form the BMX at @ again just as a reminder for all and newbies.. Cheers OsamasBMX
spinner
Yeah , Ringwood was daunting when first riding it. It would have been nicer to ride if it had the minimum amount of vert , it had a beautiful smooth transition where Parkdale was a bit uneven an only just got vert at the top. I can remember doing kick turns up the deep end of Ringwwod , it took some nerve to get the back wheel right on the lip.

As someone mentioned earlier in the thread , Ringwood was about 15 - 20 ft deep , at least 5 ft deeper than Parkdale. My favorite line at Parkdale was to air off the hip (as in the pics above), something that I never managed to do at Ringwood because of that deadly amount of vert !

Jumping out of the deep end of Parkdale was nuts. Saw some massive air there , some local guys were the masters of the bowl launch. see below.

Hey Martin, I've looked through my BMX News' and can't find a Profile test, but BMX Torque has a test on a black Profile Champ Pro and a feature/rundown of Darren May and his Profile set up. Is this the one you're looking for?
AndyDiamond
Yo - any of you Aussie guys familiar with something called 'Clark Racing'?

I scored a looptail FLoval Flyer that has been custom painted pink and white with 'Clark Racing' decals.
It has an Aussie flag on the top tube.

Spinner:
A mate of mine bitd used to launch out of ringwood at the end (straight down the middle) and then turn into an aerial 180 then land on the top concrete ledge, where he'd drop back in.....

He took that further buy landing either ON the fenceline or jumping OVER the fence, which i recall was 6feet away from the bowl edge.
We don't know how he did it, as it kind of defeats physics having so much vert.

freaked us all out......constantly.
Mr.BMX
Andy:
Never heard of clark racing, never seeen it in my old aussie mags.
Since it's a legendary SE bike, i'd say stip it and preserve the SE factor, and let the clark stuff goto the bin ;-)
velocidad
edit - i was wrong...

The Clark stuff is going in the bin alright!

I was just curious.

I would say it's from about 85 - when pink and white were 'THE' colours.
Wrectangle
Hey Marty, I remember seeing a guy clear the fence once at Ringwood... absolutely mad. I also remember hearing that there was a really bad accident from someone trying to clear it, but that was later on.
Spinner's right about it being daunting, I tried and tried but I never quite managed the balls to drop in at the deep end

Mr.BMX
hehehehe, that's probably one way to date a bike, if it has any pastal colours on it, then it's 85 onwards.....
Mr.BMX
I reckon i have the balls to drop into ringwood NOW !!! between all the grass heheheheeh
AndyDiamond
here's the pic.

Ring any bells?

Mr.BMX
hmmm, i'm thinkin'.....powderpuff cruiser......
AndyDiamond
LOL

Andy,

I wish to be, er, rude, but that isn't an Aussie Flag on the top tube...Thats the star spangled banner from the good 'ol U S of A....

I just checked in my old Social Studies exercise books to make sure....

I vaguely remember hearing about that being done. Nuts! I guess if he launched himself off to one side of the bowl , rather than going back in square to the lip , it would be doable. Scary , but. Imagine hooking up the back wheel on the way down ! That guy must have had some big nads !

Damn I wish I had more pics from Ringwood !
dugga
someone sandblast that floval before I puke..... yeecchhhhhh!!!!!!!
Mr.BMX
hehehehe, yeh, that must be the "other" aussie flag ;-)
Mr.BMX
Spinner:

Mr.BMX
Hey All Ex-Ringwood-Bowl Riders......

I went there today and took these pics, hope you enjoy the memories like i did today.

The overall surroundings hadn't really changed a bit, and walking from Ringwood lake across the railway line approaching the bowl was such a buzz.....I hadn't been that way for 22+ years.

Of course some of the locals used to come to the bowl either from Bedford rd, or thru those riding tracks on the sidelines, i forgot about that 'side area' in the bushes and the few jumps/tracks that were there too.
(there are still the original tracks and jumps there now).

I visited this place about 5-6 years ago to check it out, (not knowing the bowl was filled in) but i did see the original light-pole was still in place, you remember the one overhead lightpole that used to light it at night?
Anyway, the lightpole is now gone, it's just a big plain oval.

Besides the bowl+pole, No-Ones touched this place, Awesome !!!

I didn't want to fill this forum with all the pics, so go here:
Ringwood Skatebowl 2005 - Where the beast lays sleeping ;->
