Ringwood Bowl - R.I.P

;-)
prosight
i rode the doveton bowl....
it was filled in about 8y ago.... and its a bumer as i live about 1 min walk away...
yes R.I.P doveton and ringwood
but knox still rocks..(bowl)..
Mr.BMX
How did doveton compare to ringwood in size & features?

I remember ringwood BOWL was like 15-20 feet deep.....
Gee, how deep is knox? like 5feet at it's deepest part???

Kids don't know what theyre missin' !

hehehehhe
COASTY
Heres a pic of my old stomping ground as it is today. Fivedock Bowl.
I spent nearly every weekend in this thing. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.
Mr.BMX
Cool,

What happens around that left corner? does it just "bowl" or what?

How deep is it? looks like fun ;-)

Surely Mark can get up the step-up
Someone here's bursting to ride with Nick... have to get 'em together @ the track

How's the new bike?
COASTY
That is a roll in section. The old GT bars just fit through there. The other end where the photo is taken is open a lot wider. I had the best fun in that old thing. I had a heap of mates riding in there with me. LOTS of fun.
Mr.BMX
Ya just can't beat "the good ol days" can ya hehehehehehe

Also R.I.P Parkdale

COASTY
I've heard about those stories. Whats the story there? Cant have been that bad, can it?
velocidad
Ringwood was just a bit far for me back then- I only went there once or twice - dirt riding was way more my fancy. Maybe others know some stories. it was VERY friggin deep tho. it was right beside the split in the railway line to belgrave. Did any old pancakes have pics of it??
Mr.BMX
1) Ringwood killed 1 dude (i dont know of any more than 1).

2) Whilst being fenced off (attempted closing by council) some dude rolled a small jeep (suzuki?) upside down in the bowl.
That was the final straw, so the council filled the bowl.

3) if we get enough dudes from the Nov.5th show to grab shovels, we can dig ringwood up again and RIDE !!!!!

Ride Hard !
Nugget
Have shovel for my self, could find a couple more.
I'll look through the box of box browny's for photos.
crossriderozzy
hey nugget, did you race bitd?
Nugget
never raced, was going to, just enjoyed getting air out of all those bowls.
aussie floval
Hey Marty I think the Knox bowl is closer to 7 feet deep. should all meet up there early on the 5th for an oldschool expression session

thats if anybody can still ride?
Mr.BMX
hehehehe more like another place to drink beer ;-)

or meet VERY early so no kids can laugh at us all ;-)
COASTY
I can still ride. Nothin like I used too but I'm gettin there. I think early is good. I dont like being laughed at!
dugga
hey any of you melbourne guys ride the parkdale bowl?... wish I still had pics of that. I had a supergoose with graphites and we would get serious air out of that hole. Totally buggered my ankle dropping back in once but man it was fun
Nugget
we would ride the 20 or so km's from the Doveton bowl to Parkdale bowl every 34 weeks. the trick was to clear the pine posts. still looking for photo's
dugga
yeah, I used to ride there from oakleigh but it was always a fun time (if it wasn't full of water cause the drain had blocked). How deep do you reckon that bowl was? 12 foot? I can remember hitting those pine posts flying out. I don't know how many bones were broken in that bowl... I'd love to see pics if you've got em.
Mr.BMX
Boys, i have quite a few pics of dudes at parkdale 1981-83 era, but maybe 4 or 5pics of ringwood bowl.

Both lots of pics dont show too much of the overall bowl/entry, but you kinda get an idea...

I never went to parkdale, but some locals still say ringwood was 3-4 feet deeper and wider than parkdale....
2 rad bowls either way you look at it ;-)
nujo
never got the chance to ride in a bowl,i imagine you blokes had some good stacks starting out, anyone suffer bad breaks,
hey Coastvl what magazine did your pic's appear in.
COASTY
Never busted one bone riding bikes anywhere. I had plenty of stacks coming down from 5 foot above fivedock bowl.
Pics are from Pancake #12. The other guy is Mattblacks brother, Dean.
COASTY
So wheres the pics of these melbourne bowls Mr BMX? I love old school bowls. I'd love to go to China to ride the SMP park. AWSOME !!

Hey Prosight,

Unbelievable. I was looking for those pedals for over a year. I happened upon a NOS stash myself luckily. However, I did see a set go for over USD $260 on US eBay last year. Something to think about . . .

Fellow Aussies, PLEASE HELP.

I've misplaced my stash of pristine old school mags. I'm looking for a particular issue of BMX News - the large foldout version. Specifically looking for scans of a black Profile Champ Pro test. That or I'll buy the issue from somebody.

Can anybody help please??? Thanks.
