Yeah your right the 84 Turbo's all had small gussets. The early ones pull a lot more money. If its all complete I would pay around $500 for an 84 pending condition.
Volcano
Hey Jake...just wondering about the Laserlite bars?...hehe wink.gif
Sumo178
going to give them to Waza to send with other stuff.

Or maybe I might stooge you...bwah ha ha ha haaaa.

John that is total BS! I would take them back to the clown and get him to strip it off and re do them...alternatively, we can get my chromer to do the same...

Stu, thanks. I will definitely drop them down to you, or the chromer, whichever. I guess you have the good relationship with the guy (no inappropriate suggestions intended there) so it would be good if you could help out. I don't want to give up on them yet because they are (were) new.

Don't you love those idiots who send you crap messages. I received one when I was trying to sell that CW post, and I know who it was too. I wish they would just keep your crap sarcastic thoughts to themselves.....

I know this is a shame less plug but I have some stuff on ebay at the moment under bmxos28, selling them for my bro. I also have a NOS flying Rhino comming up. Rare as hell.

Hey Matt, I'd be paying around $400-$500 for a Turbo II, personally I really only want the original Turbo...

Kurt, I would be super appreciative for a blue post if you can spare it....you got mail mate...

John, yeah, let's get those to my plater and see what he can do with them...he is pretty good, but that is not to say he is perfect, but I'm sure they won't finish up like those one's. I will be getting my 48's back from my wheel builder (yeah slack I know, I could just see me making a big ol mess trying to spoke 48's!) next week, so you can have look and see what you think...

Mick, I saw that DX post, looks sweet as...

Hey Broke, is a Flying Rhino like the Tange made Rhino III? I've got a soft spot for those!

broke L345
Kurt I think they are the same thing, I had never heard it called a flying Rhino before, I only knew them as a Rhino III, it's my bro's and he wanted it titled as a flying one?? OK then. but the bin option isn't working, I don't get what I've done wrong. scratch_one-s_head.gif
84profile
I've seen the listing for the Rhino, that it looks hot indeed, just need the Down Tube Decal's...I'd love it, but that would kinda fly in the face of my attempt at thinning out

You should be able to just click on the BIN option at the bottom of the first page when you set up the description. Just go to the listing and hit the revise button, it should allow you to ad the BIN...
Sumo178
The Flying Rhino and the Rhino III are the same. The early decals had a pic of a rhino with wings on the head tube.

Tough as hell but can fly like an eagle.
JMCGT
Thanks Guys..
i,m not much of a DB guy so wont be buying it..just wanted to know what its worth for a couple of mates..
getting the market value, i suppose...
Kurt.
Yeah - Check out the Kashimax ad in BMXAs from '80/'81. The Rhino in those has "Flying Rhino" stickers on the downtube. The early Rhinos ran TRX forks - later Rhinos had the Tanges with the slashcut tubes and teardrop cutouts in the drops, like the one on e:bay. Nice forks too - bought a pair from Stu earlier this year. One of my best mates from high school won the state title on a Rhino. he still has it too - exactly as last raced.

84profile
Hey Kurt, I would suspect the two extra decals for the forks I sent you, might be very much of interest to whoever buys that Rhino!

That is a stunning frame set for sure...

What Matt? a frame set that you are going to pass up!!! Dude, you must not be feeling well! biggrin.gif Better have holiday, like 2 years worth!!
Sumo178
Matt get it to replace the pretend Turbo you have!
JMCGT
Mmm hoilday, there,s a plan,,
cant afford to buy it all Jake, bigger fish..
Kurt.
Hey Jake - I can go earlier than that. My Turbo is 2F0312. Makes me wonder when they did revert to Senior Pro dropout position - must have been in '82.
Sumo178
Kurt the is very early! Where did you get yours?

Kurt.
Got it off the bay - from a guy in QLD - Can't think who it was now. He was a big purchaser there for a while (well he outbid me on a number of things over the years anyway). This was the guy who tried to sell his collection for heaps in one listing?

Came as F&F, with a Turbo stem and a set of repro stickers. Still has the original stickers on it, though most of the rest of the coating has been stripped. Dropouts and gussets are as mint as i have ever seen on a used DB. From memory it was $450 BIN - but I got it for $400 I think. Bargain! Stu very nearly BIN'd it too - he has that itchy trigger thing, you know...
Sumo178
I'll send pics of mine. It has almost all the black and all the decals still on it. The thing is in pretty nice raced survivor condition.

Mine was from a sponsored rider from Syd in 82. It was a girls bike. I'm working on her brothers bike (JMC with Hutch mag hubs and some other very cool goodies like JMC race jersey, pants, helmet etc).
Sumo178
Oh that reminds me 83 JMC with euro BB serial is XL 831552 chrome FF. cant get the TT length at the moment.

Anyone able to give me info?
Kurt.
That's an '83 "3.1 XL" Jake. I have an '82. Great little jigger - it's in between a Mini and a Standard. Same geometry as the Standard, but made of thinwall tubing. 50kg rider weight limit.
84profile
Oh Kurt, I remember it well, why oh, why didn't I hit the BIN! Well I'm glad one of "us" got it anyways!

You can never post to many pictures of DB Turbo's, so get to it boys...Love to see em'
Sumo178
here is mine the way I got it.

Kurt.
Nice Jake - that's great survivor condition. Are they 1.5 rims on her?

Funny you know - I remember really clearly looking at the Turbos when they first hit a McBains here in Tassie - wasn't till the start of '83. I bought my Senior Pro in late '82.

None of us thought the smoke coating would last ANY time. How true that prediction turned out to be!
ACGTO
I pick my Turbo up from the chromers tomorrow then it's off to get an exact match for the original coating. Not sure if I'll ever build it as a complete. Probably just f/f.
waza007
Yesterday i drove a good 3 hours away to clean out an old bike shop. Check out what was amongst it......

And today my 76 decoster showed up

All in all a good week.... except for the flu...!

you drove three hours for that junk????

lol

Nice score - give us a break down of everything!
Kurt.
NICE Waza! What's the serial on the Turbo - looks like a very early one from the drops...
Sumo178
I hate you Waz
JMCGT
that JMC is the same as my chrome one Jake..3.1 pounder...like Kurt said..not a big dollar bike..nice though

how's the co-incidence waza....now that is my sort of Turbo!! Sweet pick up!!
GTHODAD
Oh yeah Wazza I get it. A Diamondback in a nest of Mongooses;iIts arch enemy! Could get a bit bloody.
Jarvi
Well I have just been schooled on DB Turbos which was handy because I had two in my hands just yesterday. One large and one small gusset. Also the cranks and bars. Definitely like the earlier ones better.

Sitting up here in Melany, ready to wander down the road for a coffee and then lunch with a friend I haven't seen for over 20 years. It's good to be on holiday.

Hit up four skateparks and a BMX track on Wednesday with Dirtboy and Mattblack. Man was the body a bit tired and sore from that effort but no long term injuries. A fantastic day and photos to come soon.

Didn't enjoy the little storm in SE Queensland on Thursday evening. When it rains up here it really rains doesn't it?

Waza, hopefully you will soon find an old dusty Hutch at the back of an old bike store and start to see the "light"......

....that's a terrible attempt at a joke..... Sorry guys. I've got nothin.....

I stole my daughters Mongoose today (a 2004 anniversary Taiwanese made thing) and went down to the local track with my son. I got airborne over some doubles on a BMX for the first time in about 20 years. Felt good though, and I didn't crash which is encouraging! I really need to finish my rider project.

No fortunately. My 8 year old son doesn't quite have the hang of a camera yet so I didn't bother taking it. It was pretty cool powering up to a set of doubles after so long with more than 50% chance of it ending badly. Make that 70%.

I am keen to see Stu on a track these days. We used to call him Lepper as a kid. He always had parts hangin off of him.....
COASTY
I plan on goin for a ride tomorrow. Fathers day and all. I wish i had a track closer but. The only track is 30 k's away. Still tryin to get on e here in town though.
I know Stu can pull a killer wheelie!
Iwantotbuyahutch
We had plenty of practice. We had a running comp going as to who could mono as far from school to home as possible. I think Stu had the record, and with the help of Google Earth, I have provided a map below.

Just to give you some kind of indication of the distance involved, the red dot is Melrose High School in Woden ACT, where we both attended, at times, and the green dot was Stu's House. The blue line, according to my poor alcohol effected memory, is as far as Stu mono'ed continuously home from school. It included a set of major traffic lights and several road underpasses with steep pathways leading in and out of them.

My best effort was several hundred metres less than Stu, so he truly is a master. But I have rekindled the competition and as soon as I get my Kuwa rider project done, he is in deep trouble of being embarrassed.... sun_bespectacled.gif

I hope no-one remembers that bold prediction......

Hey John

re: the wheelies...Wow, I do remember that mono comp now! How funny, that would be at least 25 years ago!!

I can remember John was in the cool group "BMX" grou at school and I wanted in... but you had to have some credibilty to be accepted, so i just had to practice and practice...well what else were you going to do when you rode to school every single day.....must say there were a few cases of falling off the back and eating cr@p! I'm pretty dodgy on a BMX track now days!

John the photo Glenn posted up that of the day at Roberto's, had me losing the wheelie comp to Gavin on a cruiser, he totally smoked me in the round about at the end of the street!! I want another crack!

You should have been there that year (2007) as Gary (John Chopper) bought along some bunny hop height poles...my efforts were pretty ordinary to say the least, but Gary pulled like 38" from memory...I rememeber you John back in the day hopping 30"+ in a comp with Gunny...oh those were the days!!!

Dodgey Attempt:

Gary Kickin it!

COASTY
