Hey Damon, how about GT Toby henderson bars...??? i remember him having a larger set of h/bars...
JMCGT
Toby was a late inclusion for GT...just trying to understand why some people call these bars,AP,s or T/hendo,s ??
AndyDiamond
Andy Patterson rode for GT around 81.

Those tall bars were not introduced until about 84 and the correct model is 'XT Pro' (XT = Extra Tall).

Dunno where the AP reference came from although he may have run them while he was on Skyway before the Skyway race bars hit - hence the association.

Here's and ad with Nelson Chanady showing them off (April 1984 BMX Plus!):

JMCGT
Cool, thanks Andy...
they are your old grips on the Nat Pro too

I Guess Toby would have used these in 88, and someone just called them Hendo,s at some stage too.
10 3/4,, thats massive.. great ad, PRO XT,s
AndyDiamond
yeah - it's just a tag that has stuck to those bars fro some reason.

Dunno about Toby using them.
When did he retire?
Last I saw of him he was riding for SE.

Nice grips wink.gif

Just an update on my de-anodising rims exercise. I was having mixed success with oven cleaner after going to two Bunnings stores that seem to have had a rush on Caustic Granules. I called several platers and finally got on to a mob at Salsbury called Brisbane Name Plate who dipped them in their baths for about 4 minutes, rinsed them in several other baths all for the price of a few phone calls. How good is it when you get something for free!

Rims look beautiful even before buffing them!
Bradster
Pro XT bars 'eh, glad to know the year/correct name!

Are these the same bend/width as the standard 'pro' bars??

Good work on the rims John, get the Mothers out - you'll be stoked once they're polished!!
caferacer
Nice post there Andy, The only real Andy Patterson bars where made by JMC in 1984.
There was a S.E bar that was very much like the G.T bars around the same time with a 10 inch rise but Toby Henderson riding for G.T in the late 80's i do'nt recall that.
JMCGT
Toby Henderson rode Gt in 88 and then went to GT mountain bikes...
there is an interview with him on JJR,s site
John..caustic can be bought from most supermarkets....in the draino section,in granuale form.
my wife buys it for me..
JMCGT
i just went into martinbike,s site..to look at what year galindo gx bars were, and noticed he also has 1983 GT Andy Patterson bars in his bar profile??
obviously a very common mistake..
www.martin-bike.com
I'll fix it when I get home tonight

That's the guys that do the chroming and anodising for me. They do alot of motor bike stuff for the vets rebels angels. Good guys. They have a min charge for anodising and plateing...unless you do the prep work yourself. Then it's different. They won't do frames.....yet...but i'm workin' on him! wacko.gif
SeanC73
GT made the XT bars for AP and then Nelson Chanady. I have 2 sets of SE stickered 10inch rise bars(no knurling) that Im pretty sure are the same thing. Maybe Henderson used them when when he rode Quadangles? Only photo I've seen of JMC AP bars had a teardrop crossbar. Any help??
JMCGT
thanks Sean, yeh talking to Damon (caferacer)..and spoke about the se bars..but they are a different shape..
just heard people talk about toby hendo GT bars?? dont know why..
hendo was a pro rider for hutch so anything after would have used a large h/bar as he was quite tall..ie SE, and GT...
i have only spoke to one person that has the AP bars..Damon!!
Iwantotbuyahutch
Hey Roy. So did they chrome plate some rims for you? I asked him about that, but he sounded reluctant. He also mumbled about wishing he had kept his old BMX bike.... Aint that the case for most of us! I think Leroy would be one of the few that still does!

Matt. I have enough trouble getting my wife to remember buying the cereal that I like! I will check it out next time I go. Cheers.
JMCGT
cereal...SH$T...i knew i forgot something...bloo$y supermarket
Iwantotbuyahutch
They have everything at the supermarket. It's incredible! My cousin even picked up a wife there! Pity she was damaged by a previous shopper.....

I got a fender brace and 4 fork legs done there last time. I took a chopper frame with me to ask about chroming...but he wasn't too keen. lol. The frame was pretty BIG though. It might have scared him lol. He explained to me that they will anodise stuff if it is billet? So i've showed him a few stems and they were ok. I'm not too sure about a rim. Most of the stuff i get chromed is steel. Good of em' to strip your rims though.

Hey John, don't you remeber our bet in about 1989? The first person to sell (out of you, me and Gunny)their bike had to give the others $300? Where's yours? (I know exactly where it is). I've still got mine (Profile). Where's my $300? wink.gif

Good job on the rims...I've got to get some old school time and get some of my stuff done too!
broke L345
I'm sure this comes up from time to time but can anyone tell me the cheapest way of posting complete boxed up bikes over seas?

I'm getting quotes that range from 300.00 to 900.00 for f sake.........

help appreciated.

Hey Broke, split it into 2 shipments (cartons)....ie Frame/Forks/Cranks/Handle bars in one carton and then the remaining parts in the other carton...keeping the cartons dimensions as small as possible whilst packing well...It seems more expensive sending from Australia to the US than the reverse direction...I think you should be able to get the 2 cartons shipped with tracking and insurance through Aust Post for about $250 in total...
broke L345
is that aussie post?

Yup
JMCGT
do we all need to send you $300 Stu...wish i still had my original bikes...sad.gif

Iwantotbuyahutch
Hey Stu, I remember the bet, but I am bit fuzzy on the $ amount. Do I get a discount for still knowing who owns my old bike and where it is? Do we also know for sure if Gunny sold his before I sold mine? I might have come second place. Anyway, the cheque is in the mail.....

Hey nice pics Matt. You might be able to get your bike back if you search hard enough, but can you get the rug back? ohmy.gif

When are we having a drink to celebrate Stu's loss?
Iwantotbuyahutch
".... they may take our lives, but they will never take OUR BMX BIKES!"

Matt - that Patty was your race bike BITD?

Kurt..i sent the stickers out this morning for copies too..
Kurt.
Hey cool Matt. Just LMK.

She must be a very tolerant wifey. Only one frame, one complete, 3 pedals, two sets of grips, one set of forks, one brakeset and various stickers beside our bed at the moment. And that's pushing things...

We are just finishing the reno on our Federation place at the moment. Got our eye on another old place at the moment that has a proper wine cellar. No prizes for guessing where me and my collection will be going if we get that place...
JMCGT
