Brad, that Phil Dolan vid is off the hook!! Man does that guy have some crazy balance....makes me want to bust out the trickstar. However, I pretty sure I'd end up promptly dumping it on my NOS Kashimax!!

I am not hammering the newbie for the fun of it , but , unfortunately he stepped on a land mine that has been sitting around for a very long time.
If Flatlander's (in general) could keep up something akin to the speed & grace of someone who can figure skate on ice , then it might be worth watching & become a spectator sport.
I have _tried_ to watch Flatland both street & competition , live & on TV , 99% of the time its a hard grind to watch.
Stop , go , indecision , touch the ground , + wh00p up a few really trick moves in between , all the arm twirling & leg unsteadiness etc etc just embarrassed their sport & wasted good video tape.
No flow , No balance , No style , No points , off to Siberia & get re-trained at the bicycle ice circus until they happy with you.
I am the angry Russian Gym Trainer & Drill Sargent from Full Metal Jacket combined , packing an MP5 & wearing a ballistic vest this time.
Only seen 1 or 2 guys in the US who knew what they were going to do 3 or 4 steps ahead of time when riding in an open area , could keep up their speed , pull the tricks smoothly , take opportunistic chance that turned up & rode with grace & purpose.
The rest of them riding a _purpose built bike_ flatland bike , could only manage a run/ride that at best a had a 25% enjoyment or w0w factor.
This aint the 1980's where curb endo's , wheelies , rockwalks , jumping , trials riding , high speed freestyling in transit from A to B , getting chased by beer bottle throwing strangers for no reason & all the other stuff we did on our basic all round street assault bike , it's a supposed to be a 21st century offshoot or dedicated discipline of what we were all starting to challenge ourselves & our bikes to do with waay back then.
Flatland for all it's evolution , time , development just don't make the cut when compared to ANY other organized or disorganised BMX based sport.
JB
I'm guessing this is being pointed in my direction, I certainly don't watch any free-style bmx on tv or internet and haven't for the last 20 years, I have far better things to do than surf the net for something that isn't much of an interest to me. I was impressed with the evolution of tricks but as you say these were never possible on the bikes we rode as we didn’t have pegs mounted all around the bike to place our feet. I can however appreciate the balance these guys display even if it does take a few kicks of your legs to keep upright
To be honest I just can’t get into ice skating though, each to their own I guess

thanks for the nice replies. when i went for a spin i realized how big the prolines are compared to the GT. no wonder a lot of big fellas put laybacks on them.
i actually put this together with black components a couple of weeks ago and thought it looked quite bland. i had a set of gold ukais laying around with some nice sunshine hubs and sent them off to gnarley for lacing. the rest of the gold bits i had laying around. those sugino maxi cranks i found on ebay and had road race gears on them and the price was right LOL
one thing i have noticed is the master link on the chain "taps" the seat stay on the way through. i may pull it and put a continous chain on. anyone else have this problem with their GT's?

wow proline that's pretty nice.
had a minor score today went to a salvo's and bought a racer for five dollars,it had some crappy bmx bars but I spotted a pair of black sprayed dx peddals. The ends are crap but they could pollish up ok.

Man that GT came up nice mate. Thanks for the props on the wheels, my pleasure. Wait till you see the set for the Schwinn.

In regards to the joining link hitting the frame, just flip it 180 so the clip is on the inside and maybe just add a thin washer to the drive side of the rear axle.
Talk soon mate.

thanks Chris i didn't think of turning it over, i'll try that. i won't be able to put a spacer between the hub and the dropout as i had to spread the frame a bit to get the wheel on as it was. i'm thinking a 3/32 chain may help but that will mean finding a new freewheel as well. fingers crossed turning the master over will do the trick.
i'm nearly there with the schwinn too. finding the correct frame tube sticker is going to be bigger than, um..................think of something huge then multiply it by lots

Take plenty of pics of that resto-should be a fun one. Could you have a go with fibreglass maybe? Builders bog? Or maybe make a mold of it to use as a dolly to whack some tin into shape?
