Adam you got any of those campy graphite caps for the repro tuff's you can part with? or does anyone have them for that matter?

I think Ted Carl on this site did those...
Kurt.
Yeah - Ted Carl does 'em, but has changed jobs so doesn't have access to all the machining equipment he used to, so you may struggle.

It all came from a great idea from our very own Jetblack you know...

Hey Stu - now that PR240 - I call that "Matt-bait" if ever I've seen it!

Here's what happens when two old schoolers try to share the same bit of track. Velocidad's tyre across Dugga's stomach. Both are tough guys though and rode away from it. Felt like I was in CSI when taking the photos.

HI Guys

Im in California and going on a old school bmx factory tour in the morning..... thats all i can say at the mo.

Scored 2 killer bikes today!! Will post more info when the deal is finished

later..
waza007
Kurt.
Cool Waza - haven't seen any pics of all your scores from your last trip yet!

Hey Reece - the KE-1 is going well mate.
Kurt.
Hey fellas - check it out.

One of the new guys was asking about his brother's Helium which originally came with red stickers.

Pic is of the Professor I think. Check out the tubes - definitely a Helium.

Maybe the first (late '81?) Helium's came with red decals...???

COASTY
mmmm maybe because he was sponsored he could have whatever he wanted on there. I personally have never seen one in red. Not to say they don't exist. Who knows with that company. They are the aussie version of Bill Bastian!
Kurt.
PS: BMX'n in desert boots. Very early 80's!

Be good to check out AJ's recollections on this - you out there big fella?

Kinda funny that it matches with the "Aussiegrind"'s recollections too though...
JMCGT

HowardinOz
Hi All,
what's happening in the world of BMX?
I haven't been around in a while...been playing with cars instead.
Someone asked about Luis....I still keep in touch with him. He had a pretty nasty car accident a while back and it shook him up a fair bit.
COASTY
Howie, Thats no good about Luis. Tell him I said hi.
Matt, thats an incredible story mate. he was lucky to have you there to help. Well done.
monaro
Well done on the rescue Matt!! nothin like saving someones life!! all in a days work LoL.
I hope you had a quick look in the back of the wagon, just in case there was a bike in there haha. I take it he was traveling alone.
Bradster
Matt-certainly a day to remember, give yourself a pat on the back and grab a lotto ticket, maybe some good fortune is due to come your way!

Yeah some of the UK guys are trying throw stupid amount of cash at me!

Howard, say hi to Luis for me, I havent spoken to him in a long time.
GTHODAD
Kurt-that pic of the Professor sure looks a lot like a Jamie Hales crossup. Desert Boots! Jamie wore Adidas Rome runners I think.
Volcano
Wow Matt - Well done mate!!! Three cheers for your heroic efforts.
Thats one intense situation to be in...good to see you kept a cool head.
We should all nominate you for a bravery award!!!
Kurt.
Top stuff Matt. Well done Mate! Bet the old adrenalin was pumping

I hope that guy realises how lucky he was.

(I mean, imagine if there'd been a VBMX in the back of the wagon - he'd have had to wait to be pulled out second!)

Hey John - it was the 80's - there were only three sorts of shoes back then weren't there? Desert Boots, Romes and thongs...
Jet Black
Matt gets equal credit with me as far as thinking up the idea to make the new graphite tuffs look "proper" , we both thought that all the new tuffs looked really lame without the center flange & the best way to make them look cool was to fit a campy style flange to them.

Looking thru my "skyway box o spare parts" , I can see enough anodised gold flanges to do 2 pair of new school 20 inch graphite tuffs (8 flanges in total) still in the plastic bags that Ted mailed to me.
If Ted can't or isn't making the flanges anymore I could probably be persuaded to part with one set of flanges if you have something to trade.
<hint> I'm looking for a 1911 Colt 45 pistol with an extended barrel to modify into something like this with a can on the end to keep it quiet. A handy piece of hardware to have when your caught up in a elevator shootout <heh>

Desert Boots , KT 26's & Surfer Thongs were the preferred safety footware for BMX riding as we entered the 80's. Tracker boardshorts & a good tan protected me from getting all scratched up.

Xmas 79 @ Forster Caravan park with Matt supervising in the background.
That Redline MXII I'm "jumping" was fully loaded , unfortunately all we have left of it is the frame & TRX forks , no idea where the padset & other cool parts on it went.

JB

still alive & bloated from my dental surgery....

Volcano
WooHoo!!! The classic Dunlop KT26's...LOL
I remember those...but what Dunlops did the guys wear in BMX Bandits?

What a truly classic Old School photo...two bricks & a piece of wood!
Nice Redline too.

Kurt.
Cool pics JB.

That 1911 is off the show.

This what you lookin' for...

Volcano
Is this the aussie forum for Guns & Ammo?...LOL

Kurt if you drew that single stack 1911A replica on me , there'd be a stiletto jammed into your heart before you could blink , the only thing you can do with that is to replace the top slide , spring , barrel , & with a bit of machine work turn it into a somewhat dubious but reliable 15 shot .22 trainer.
Never pull a replica on anyone unless you intent to hit them with it immediately , a licensed & experienced gun owner can pick a fake straight off & will act accordingly.

Seems the Redline pads ended up on the Bennet cruiser....
Blacktown 1980 ish

You can see the 2nd starting hill still under construction in the background
We made good use of it as a jump for a few weeks.

KT-26's jumping goofy footed on some very expensive pedals at the time.
Our trusty green XC sedan with creme vynal (sp) roof is parked in the background factory 4 barrel 4.9 GS pack , pretty punchy car when mum put her foot down.

Sumo178
Jet black I'm keen on a set of the hub caps. PM sent
Kurt.
More cool pics JB. Nice.

LOL JB. Yeah, but it's a cool toy. Thought about the .22 conversion but they are cast and it wouldn't last. I'm a pistol club member and have a Browning .22 auto anyway - a better option that a converted replica. To be honest if it came down to home invasion It'd be the .303 with 10 rounds and bayonet fitted I'd be pulling out!
Jarvi
Dunlop Volleys for me. DXs chewed up the first layer of the sole but never went through any further.

Matt, hope the rest of the trip is uneventful.
Kurt.
Yeah Volleys were the go Jarvi. Always had that "Vans" look. Though about colouring them in with hobbytex, but thankfully never did...

The Volleys are back in with the kids down here nowadays.

Kurt
I bet you have a Luger too. The Colonol Klink Special.
Hooooogaaaaaaannn!

Go the Volley's! I never painted mine either...

Is it just me...or is this a little over the top for 1200's???

Hey Jake..make sure you let me know if you pull out of the rare bike deal..
Stu..dont sell..its only a house..LOL
ardy0067
Hey guys,
thanks for the welcome.

I don't really know what I'm looking for. I just decided the other day I needed a bike. I don't like mountain, road or cruiser bikes, and remembered the good old days as a young bloke on my bmx. So i decided that's the go. I didn't realise they were in such high demand, and that there was a community of enthusiasts out there. I'm glad there is. After missing out on ebay, I've developed a keen interst in them.
Luckily I crack the ebay today and scored myself a bike. I dunno if its fully awesome or fully [I tried to curse] or somewhere in between, i figure if its [I tried to curse] its a good place to start and learn a bit (I know nothing!!!).

Thanks again for the help, I'm sure you will hear more for me. Hopefully I can put together some nice before and after shots of my purchase.

Cheers.

ps Ardy is a nickname i picked up when i was probably in grade 3ish. Can't remember where it came from, but it has stuck.
JMCGT
good luck Ardy..and welcome mate..
Hey Monaro..no bikes in the wagon..he was a fellow builder..dropsaws level,s...got me f@#$ED how those didn,t kill him..25 kilo saw in the back of the head would hurt a bit..
felt like a footy trainer belting his shoulder back in..LOL
Jet Black
Sumo: I just made a call to Matt & it seems that this is as close as you are going to get to the 2 sets of flanges we have.

Seems that Matt has them tagged to be used on some medium term projects that we are working on & does not want to part with them at any price.Best bet would be to ask for some in the classified section here or see if Ted Carl has any spare ones hidden away.

Despite our XL TA actually being "Totally Aerodynamic" with the 5 spoke THUG wheels on it , there is something inherently wrong with keeping these slick mags & tires on it unless we are going for a downhill speed run record <very unlikely> A new set of flanged graphites will get fitted to this bike , might keep the sweetskins on it still for street riding , no use wearing down black rainbow Comp III skinwalls.

Can't wait for a few more sets of those 10 inch rise bars to turn up & get fitted to some of my other riders , they make a good bike with GT Pro bars even better to ride around on. I have been assured that they are coming "soon" , before xmas anyway

When the 24inch graphite Tuffs arrive we will look into the logistics of designing & fabricating a few sets of flanges that resemble the very early Skyway prototype hubs to give them a real old skool look , it seems there are now 7 reinforcement ribs around the hub of the new 24inch mags instead of the original 5 , so Teds flanges won't cover up the hub properly, but something like the one below will smile.gif

best of luck with hunting down unobtanium.

Kurt.
LOL Matt - that's the problem with you - always in deep shizzle...

Matt, the house is perfect, just needs a bike room and the owner to except our rude offer!!! I was suggesting to the house owner except a Harvy Norman style arrangement...8000 months interest and repayment free contract????

Hope the trip is going smooth after your earlier mishap, and good on you for helping out...but I agree with Kurt if there was Cook Bros in the back....he'd still be waiting, while you were checking the serial numbers!

Look forward to catching up with you when you make it up...I'll be sure to hand over your Hutch...I've got something in my eye....honestly

JMCGT
Cook Bros..Mmm..
i need some decals for mine..did they come in blue and also red on the frame.??
I was going to ask Mastersint (Claude)..i am sure he had some a while back..
and does anyone know what colours they came Chrome / White ??

Hey Matt, I bought two sets just incase I decided I want to rechrome but I haven't....I think Claude has some still...pretty pricey, but really nice...I've got the blue, he also did red....
