Volcano
Hey Andrew - Don't tell Reece you have a Helium...LOL
The guys here have some serious stuff...brings back some Old School memories.
Bradster
Cheers JB for posting those pics, if you've got a moment can you measure the overall height of them? There's a set on ebay U.S. but shipping is a bit of a sting, anyone have a spare set to sell? Another option is to look at getting Johnny Chopper make me a custom set.

....and on goes the VBMX money pit!

Kurt.
LOL Brad - I thought you'd finished building. Ha - not possible!

Welcome Andrew. Great to have you on the board. Your family were mentioned on this thread before, at the time of your brother's sudden passing. We were really sad to hear of that.

Hey - post some pics - you've got some impressive rides there.

Cheers Kurt (in Tassie)

PS: First shout is normally on the new guy - I'll have a Boag's St George thanks!

Bradster & all , RE: the BIG GT Bars
IF (big) you can find an original Santa Ana set in the US the cost of them obtaining them is going to be insane , despite the favorable exchange rate.
The JC option is being casually looked into. I might even commission a run of them myself for resale if JC isn't interested in doing them.

Plenty of locals would like reasonably priced repo's & there seems to be more than a few US people in the Retro New Skool forum wanting to buy reproduction 10 inch rise bars & the BIG GT bars fit the bill perfectly , unlike the CW style bars which make you feel like you are driving a truck...stay tuned.

Nothing is official at this point in time , so if you can afford grab a pair now , take them.

JB

JMCGT
i have bought two sets of big bars made by gt in the last month from the usa...one set cost me $160us and the other $190 us plus post..so jc bars would come in at half this as his 8" bars at around $80,cant imagine the 10" costing too much more...i am more than happy to send a set of bars up for gary to copy as i am heading up that way soon to live.. and JB ,i love the feel of my cw bars,i have some bars that were sold to me as toby henderson bars, they are 12 " from base to the very top of grip..which is two inches larger than my pro size cw,s..both are 29 " wide...i freak out riding them around the house thinking i am going to wipe out every door way.LOL...

oh and mick..thanks for the james tobin freestyle thread..i was reading that for days..holycrap...kerry vrs de bruin
Volcano
....or the new guy has to drink a 6 pack of Glenn's fosters (circa 1980's)!...LOL
Kurt.
Hey Matt - Yeah, I've been checking on that thread daily since it appeared. Drama and hate hangs around any repro thread like stink on a poo! blink.gif

Going back a year or so Johnny Chopper copped even worse hate threads - and he never posted a single message stirring the pot.

TTT seems to be thriving on the negative publicity. I'm pretty sure he was one of the haters on threads about JCs 24" Quads...

Volcano
Didn't Gary make something that was never made by SE?...this new controversy is about direct copying...well, that's my take on it.

Hey Kurt - did you figure out the Holy Grail yet?...LOL
Bradster
I've emailed JC with a few ideas on bars, we'll see what he comes back with.
JMCGT - what were the postage costs like for the bars, the purchase prices were enough for me!

Great gesture on sending a set of bars to Gary!!

Hey Kurt, the bike was finished....until fresh 'improvements' came to me!
Are they ever finished???LOL

I think I need to visit that "Magic factory" in Melbourne again...LOL

Trying to source a rear Eagle mag...anyone got any leads?...and a G-boy, PK loopy, Supergoose...um...oh, oh and a......hehe biggrin.gif

Mr.BMX
Volcano, that pic is more than likely waza with a 'score' ....yet more parts that nobody else can have ;-)

Volcano (again) did i previously sell you the front eagle mag?
What colour do you need anyway? i have some, plus a G-boy too
Volcano
Hey Marty - I'm after a rear Eagle. Colour doesn't matter as i'll blast them back and get them painted.
I got the Eagle of a guy up here in Brisbane off ebay...."dropbear" who I think is Pete Dodd.
I'd be interested about the G-boy. PM me a price if u wish to sell?
Cheers

Going back a year or so Johnny Chopper copped even worse hate threads

it wasnt just that , even people who lent him parts to get the geometry copped it big time . its bloody sad that clearly marked and publicised repos got such a hiding when there is all this old school stuff apprears in indonesia/china now after 25 years with with no questions asked .

Bloody stephen speilberg didnt even know there was 10,000 ET seats in storage ..... or the kashimax seats in abundance .

kurt if you want to read repo death threats see the fake aerospeed threads .....peeps not happy chappys smile.gif

or the huntcart saga where they were getting screwed to the walls of TFI FRIDAYS smile.gif

i just sold a floval with JC same geometery SE cruiser bars clearly advertised , no probs .

sometimes the views of some collectors are not the way they want to see others building/collecting

everyman to themself

thats why i just "browse in the background" of late .
OZZYBMX
shoe on the other foot , the guy i sold the bike to might not have the decency to declare the originality if the bars if he ever sells it ......

the internet has opened the world up to a market we never had any realization of , but with that comes a flood of fakes in every product range , its only gonna get worse in years to come.

you cant even buy razors now to trim the mullett without the originallaty being challenged angry.gif

Mr.BMX
Volcano, "dropbear" is pronounced "dropdead" around these parts hehehehe, many will agree...

I'm working out pricing on the Gboy and other stuff, prepare for surgery.

There's no such thing as reproduction......it's simply "late production" angel.png
Kurt.
Yeah - the repo stuff was common BITD - and it still is. Same in every field of collecting where a buck is to be made.

I also collect a bit of antique furniture, as well as some WW2/Third Reich German stuff - both fields are just flooded with out and out fakes - 1000 times more than vintage BMX! - so you need to know your stuff or you will be ripped off.

Many won't like it, many won't mind - a collector/enthusiast just needs to learn their stuff if they want to avoid unintentionally buying repos. There is a legitimate market for the stuff though - How many of us downunder could build anything how we want it if it wasn't for repo stickers and pads (for example) anyway!!!
Jet Black
Local reproductions of US stuff have been going on almost from day 1. Mostly due to the HUGE tax they had on imported bicycles at the time to protect our local manufactures.

This scan is out of a 1981 Tuf Moves.

I wonder where all the frames & the welding jigs ended up ......should give them a call <heh>
Retro Repo Moosegoose's could be an untapped multi million dollar market. roflmao.....

JB
JMCGT
hey brad..arounds $30 us for posting the big bars,i am happy to buy repo stuff as long as i know it is...i dont know too many people in this for the money so hopefully when parts get sold on that they are well posted "repo"...most of jc parts are stainless, not cromo...i just bought some seatpoles and they are some of the best poles i have ever bought...450mm long ,perfect. i will send these bars up to jc after the st kilda show as they are on my 81 gt,so everybody that goes can have a look and sit on my bike ,and get ready to order as i am sure gary would be more than happy to make them for us....i suggest if you can get those bars on the bay right now for under $150,then that would be a bargain..i was lucky to get a nos set from kerry...everyones opinion is different, but its not everyones bike that YOU own..its yours..

Exactly!

The thing is, if people didnt post up here or show pics, there would be nothing to argue about! I know a couple of serious collectors that dont even OWN a computer, and they survive!

No point getting into arguments on the interent over repops, the only winner is people with too much time on their hands smile.gif
JMCGT
very true kurt..most of my bikes would still be waiting to be finished without repo decals...and thanks to jim melton is still in buisiness...shame S>E havn,t done the same..i went in to an S>E dealer 12 months ago to find some decals, they told me they dont sell them to public because i might put them on a bike that is not made by them (SE)...is that crazy..
just imagine all the unstickered bikes with new paint riding around because you wern,t allowed to use repo,s..that would be funny.
ask adam how many hutch stickers he went through to get his perfect hutch,perfect...impossible without repo,s
ACGTO
Tomorrow is looking good guys. I've had confirmation from a few guys from Shepparton that are heading down for the day and a heap more from Melbourne that weren't there last year. Matt and I are going to have a truckload of bikes there (literally) so it should be a good turnout.

The whole "YOUR" bike thing is true. You've just got to be happy with your bikes. Everyone else will have an opinion but if we worried about what everyone else said we wouldn't be happy. Repro helps bring some of our old dreams back to life and that rocks.

John De Bruin got quite a few sales of Hutch stickers out of me.
JMCGT
lets show melbourne and Australia just how much this bike stuff means to us and how big it is..so please bring your bikes, doesn,t matter if they are finished...that means you too james LOL..i havn,t seen your bikes mate....IM,, PUMPED..LETS CLOSE THE STREETS lol.. one more sleep
Volcano
Last time the "Streets were closed" a flour bomb fight broke out!...LOL laugh.gif
Kurt.
LOL Mick - Yeah, up Sydney way they like Mardi Gras and flour bomb fights!

In Melbourne they sort out their organised crime differences a little bit differently...
JMCGT
flour it is

and kurt..its not too late
AndyDiamond
I hear you on the ebay fee thing... I just paid over $300 US in fees and another $200+ in PayPal 'fees' alone for my recent BMX sales.
OW!!!!
And the eaby ones were using the 1cent listing promo - it'd be higher if I hadn't used that!

Still, sometimes ebay is the only way.
Jarvi
I'll be bringing one bike with me. Only just finished it a few minutes ago. As usual I managed to draw blood whilst building it. What time are people getting there?
Kurt.
It's not just the charges either - Paypal always seem to skim a couple of cents in the dollar with their exchange rates - they are never as high as the markets say they are...

Hey Matt - thanks mate - I'd love to be there but not gonna work out this year. Been working with a hot stripper all day today...

...and not the sort I'd like to be working with!
ACGTO
Jarvi - Matt's there already, rugged up and waiting.
Kurt.
Hey Adam - those Oakleys you dyed - did they start out yellow? Got a set of 0.5s coming and want to give grip dying a go.
JMCGT
where is everybody...?????i save you guys a spot...hope to be there by 9.30-10
ACGTO
Matt - I've been waiting at your joint. I'll meet you in there soon.

Kurt - I've had mixed results with grip dying. Here's the run down

Oakley 2's were grey. These dyed ok and look pretty black
Hutch grips were blue. Dyed really well but gradually fade to a bluish colour again and need redying
Oakley 2's were yellow. Dyed ok but have a green tinge to them. Can't get them really black
Oakley B2's were red. Now look brown
Kurt.
Hey thanks for the rundown Adam. Which bike do you have your ex-yellow ones on - was it the DB?
ACGTO
the ex-yellow Oakley 2's were in the cupboard, not on any bikes. They look fine. Might just need a couple more goes.

Stu recently tried to dye some yellow .5s and I think he had a similar issue to me.
Volcano
You Melb guys are like kids waiting for Xmas morning...Awww, so cute...LOL wub.gif
I think Waz has hired a B-Double transporter for tomorrow...he he
Kurt - You been watching Underbelly?...not a bad aussie production.
James - Are you assembling your bike in the Magic Factory?
Adam - "Matt's there already, rugged up and waiting"...nothing wrong with being early, he needed to mow his display area wink.gif
Matt - Don't wake the neighbours with the Victa!
JMCGT
sorry adam..i shot out to peg out my site..wanted one by the beach..would it be easier to swap grips and seats with someone..?
JMCGT
hey mick..you really hate living up there this week hey..b-double...is that criptic???
Volcano
Nope...nothing cryptic at all...I don't think...hang on...um...no...I'm sure...LOL
I can always cruise down that tunnel I dug to Waz's place!
There's now a high speed Bullet train running twice a week in the tunnel...all aboard!!!
QuicksilverBMX
anyone else think that the dude on the ebay homepage looks like Moe from the Simpsons?
