Andy, I have a BMX Torque here that has a meet report from Tauranga. The Dingleman Datsun meet. Were you there? June 27th 1982. Were you in the cruiser class by any chance? Good report anyway.
Glenn
AndyDiamond
that's cool Coastvl.

I think it was 'Digleman' Datsun.

No - I was not there and I never raced cruisers - strictly a 20" kid

I guess all of you have copies of BMX Downunder?
COASTY
Certainly do. Somewhere!
Darren May was the guy to beat in this article. He won the opens and cruisers. Geez he got around didn't he?
Mattblack
I also have so Bicycle Motocross Australia mags OCT 80 and DEC 80.

Have "BMX TUF MOVES" a weekly paper form MAY 81 to OCT 81 ?

And programs from nsw, aussies and quicksilver grands 80's to 82
AndyDiamond
What is it with the 'Mays'....

Colin May was NZ No.1 and was factory sponsored by SE Racing.
His brother was fast but Colin was better.

It was cool cause the NZ SE guys had 'Factory Kiwi' on their shirts.

He even ended up on the SE Bus in the States when the gun got knocked off I believe.
Mattblack
Glenn just come from universal some interesting things there, tried to buy something but they aren't always interested in helping you. I think they just like tell you what they have.

I have a GT24 1985 trying to find some period pics of one to compare ? can any one help? bucketphoto is down can't post pic
Dirtboy
I've got (well, I’m led to believe so) Darren Mays Profile frame (the black one he had b4 the chrome one) from BITD. Does anyone have a pic of him on a black profile out of an old mag?
leroy
I dont remember Darren having a black one (however there are a lot of things that I dont remember).

He had a white one with rainbow-like colours (on the downtube, and some other tubes for memory). Mabey the black was before the white or after the white.

Cheers
COASTY
Yeah I have one but you cant see the bike real good. He beat Perry Kramer,Mickwiltshire at the repco-hotfoot nationals. He was on a black profile I think. Very hard to tell. Issue #5 page 53.
Mattblack
I have seen a pic in the last couple of days of reading(well looking at the pic's- nothing has changed since I was 10)

Ozdirtboy you will have to come over and check out the mags If you want ? we'll can have a BBQ on Sat arvo bring the family ? call

I have a very vague memory of him riding a black one out at penrith (the same penrith track where the final race is in bmx bandits). i actually remember that bike more for the box profile cranks (and graphite tuffs). i was thinking....why would you use those things over flights!! how times change
QuicksilverBMX
lol you guys should start another thread about old school racing in Australia from BITD
COASTY
The only thing I remember is their '34 ford with the blue flames! I wouldnt have a clue what Darren rode. He was always too far in front of me to see! We had a few duels at Blacktown, on and off the track. We used to have bunnyhopping sessions in between races. He is a nice guy. Good to see him still going hard on the track.
Dirtboy
BBQ sounds good RC...will call tomorrow am

Here's the Frame in question

bring back memories for anyone? Leroy?
COASTY

Darren at Metro West. Bike is definately black, but i cant see if it's a Profile or not.
Mattblack

v8ute
hey Mattblack, you still got that GT, interested in gettin rid of it
leroy
I bought the Profile box cranks from Darren. They were awesome cranks until I split the drive side arm apart.

That black profile looks awesome.

I good to see scans from the old Aussie magazines. I dont have any of mine, just a handfull of that news paper 'BMX News'.
Dirtboy
COOL!!!
Now there's some motivation for a DM replica build. And it's a nice looking bike too!

Who wants to take a stab at the parts rundown?
prosight
Talking about profiles. The black looks kinda cool...
Well a while back i got hold of the profile importer from the 80's.And in my opion got a killer score NOS profile XL champ pro f/f , NOS profile box cranks , NOS profile goose neck and profile bars. But the biggest score of all was the NOS profile hubs which are as rare as hens teeth......
Oh and thanks to Anthony(V8ute) for the NOS profile seat post clamp as that was the missing link to the NOS profile kit....
For the guys that get the bike show in Nov at knox it will be there.
Is there anyone out there with a lead on a profile pad set??
Chris (prosight)
