Volcano
Hey guys, just thought I'd introduce myself. I been looking at this site for ages and decided to join.
It's by far THE best Vintage BMX site around. I've already met some of you at Jas's BBQ last year and Roberto/Serva's Gathering.
Big shout out to Waza, Glynn, Serva, Roberto, OldschoolRoy.

I've been collection BMX's for a while now and starting to build a collection. My collection includes Mongoose motomag (kerbside find - Complete!), Mongoose Californian, Redline MX2, Shimano 5000, 2 Diamond Backs, Quicksilver, Maxi, Vortex and a Huffy Pro Thunder.
I think the "bug bit hard" when I tracked down my old californian I gave to a mate in 1989, he still had it (Skyway tuff 2's and Shimano 600 cranks still on it!). It brought back great memories from the 80's and thrashing the dirt tracks we built.

I've met some great guys so far and sure there are more to met - so drop me a line or I'll see you at Ashmore
Cheers
Mick

p.s. - I'm currently in the process of secretly tunneling my way to Waza's shed - anyone care to join me? LOL wink.gif
waza007
Hey Volcano, i hope your wearing gloves!!! You do know the shed is electrified!!!
Volcano
Oops i forgot a Shoutout to Pete Porker. How's the bruise going from "that TV stunt show"....I mean The Collectors tongue.gif
Good to hear your band was on Triple J! cool. biggrin.gif
Volcano
Hey Waza - I know where the main powerbox is and your secret password - isn't it "Hanimex"?
I'll wear two sets of gloves just to be safe tongue.gif

Hi I'm looking for some NOS rat trap pedals for my moosegoose resto project. Does anyone have some for sale and can point me in the right direction? thanks tongue.gif Anyone know what brand came on them originally?

Hey Ghettogas. The Moosegoose, believe it or not, was always built as a racebike. It was (almost) a top of the range bike and had basically the same equipment as the Team Mongoose. The standard pedals on a Moose are chrome KKT KMX rat traps (like mine). They can be expensive to buy NOS in chrome (or black) - try and find some on e:bay in red or blue - as you can see you can strip them. Some red ones went on Aussie e:bay this week (NOS) for only $10 - mind you they were mis-described as "KTT".

Welcome again Volcano. Always good to have more Banana Benders on the board!!!
QuicksilverBMX
Scored this yesterday, Team Quicksilver, and it was a local score!

Kurt.
Woo hoo. Found some 1/2" spindles for my rat traps. In case anyone needs to do something similar, the spindles out of the KKT SMX pedals are identical. I'm sure there are plenty of others too. The KKT Lightning spindles are definitely too short (tried'em).Wow - nice Reece. You gonna build her?
ROBERTO
Hey Mic ( Volcano ) !!

Stunt show ....... Hanimex.......

You crack me up ..lol. laugh.gif
QuicksilverBMX
not sure yet Kurt, still undecided
waza007
Kurt DX axles should also fix the longer rattraps as well

LOL.... Volcano. No need to worry, the face reconition software knows freind from foe. You "should" be ok. Just smile for the camera, then wait!!. If you dont get hit by a laser, then your a friend. If not you WERE a foe.

here you go mate
www.martin-bike.com
John Crews (later Stu) take the credit for my past and current Redline obsession. Cool shot, thanks Waza.
Mr.BMX
Reece:

FYI, that's a "Team 2".
It's the revised edition, after they dropped the "matchbox" from behind the BBset (being the Team 1, which is still quite rare).

Nice score all the same ;-)
Jarvi
Thanks for the advice re the stripper. I wondered if the stuff went off as I was down to the last bit and was probably bought sometime last year, can't remember. Must get on and sti the four or five frames I have here before this one goes off.

Reece, I won't be able to make it. Week in Queensland and work doesn't seem to be slowing down like it should be...Nice score with the quickie.

Stu, you have put that together quickly. Are they the DX cranks you bought at the BBQ?
84profile
Not the same cranks as the BBQ set, actually picked up a NOS set in the box...accidently I now have 4 sets...oops

Actually did dome gates last Tuesday night and there was like 5 old schoolers on the gate...getting some practice. Should be a fun vet pro race!
Kurt.
Hey Stu - don't suppose you have a good used red set of DX cranks?

Anyway - pedals done and ready to roll...

84profile
Nice job on the pedals Kurt...

I'm actually in the middle of restoring all the other DX cranks...trying to solve as few hardware issues...Getting a few sets re annodised at present..I might have set for sale later, provided I stop building more bikes!..I'll keep you posted..
COASTY
Stu, that race inc looks cool so far. Can't wait to see that.
Provided I'm over this bug I currently have I should be all good to race next weekend.
My mate here scored a set of Tuff II's from the tip today for $5 (whole bike) I stayed home 'cause I'm sick. Wouldn't believe it. rolleyes.gif
Kurt.
Hey thanks Stu.

Glenn - Sickies never pay! LOL
www.martin-bike.com
I just had to share this. Roberto's magic. Still in progress but killer nonetheless. Diamond Back Turbo forks in Roberto smoke. Satin black on the right . . .

Kurt.
Very very nice Martin. Roberto's a legend that's for sure. The powder will be a LOT more durable than the original finish too!
www.martin-bike.com
The original frame set was stripped of the black layer to reveal the underlying first layer of chrome. This was then painted over again just like the original.
mcam
Nice! That DB looks sssmmmmmooookkkiiinnn

Hmm, KKT rat traps..

I have a NOS set of chrome 9/16's, that I put on my GT26 for show smile.gif

Funny, as bitd we all thought rat traps were so dated, and yet, now, they're era correct...LOL
AndyDiamond
I'm around - just been busy - lol happy.gif
Kurt.
Yeah Mcam - there are lots of things that look better 25 years down the track.

Rattraps are period cool.

A bog-standard as from the factory bike is cool.

Heavy vinyl pads with snaps are attractive again.

Tourney brakes are a good option for a build... (w t f?)

That old girlfriend.... Woops won't go there!
Volcano
Thanks waz. Top pic.
Laser scan? I thought that was a fake one with an LED tongue.gif
I asked a local kid from your street to check it out first - he'll be out of the hospital in a couple of weeks.
I used a welding mask....LOL

ps - the back door of the shed was open so I didn't need to try too hard and that old flyscreen mesh you got from the swapmeet isn't the best security...He he
Bradster
QUOTE
Hey Brad - how tall are you mate? - the original BMXA test reckons they are very light in the front end for under 6 footers - they were originally designed for a 6' 4" racer!

Hey Kurt - yeah I'm a meagre 5'10" - even at my height I find a standard 20" a little cramped, but it's good to have one to remind us of what we all rode! Those pedals are lookin' sweet BTW!

Just back from a few days away - nice surprise for me when I got back, Hutch t-shirt & cap arrived (ebay US). My missus cringed badly when I put them on!! Also for extra cheesieness, I've had my banks ATM card redone with a pic of my XL24 on it! If any of you are ANZ customers....
http://designmycard.com.au/
Mr.BMX
Hey all,

thought i'd ask here (just in case)
Is anyone looking to part with a looptail PK?

Yeh i know, big ask, but always worth asking, as people change their minds and lose interest, too expensive to finish etc etc....

I have an interested buyer, looking to get back into the oldschool scene.

Thanx in advance.
Kurt.
Hey Brad - I'm 5' 11" so I reckon It'll be much the same for me mate!

Mind you I was the same height at 15 y.o and the bikes didn't seem too cramped then....must be something else that has grown LOL. I was less than 70 kgs then and about 90 now...

The theory on Mooses in BMXA (Sept '80) was that due to their size and therefore positioning on the bike the over 6' guys pulled up on the bars, whereas the under 6 footers tended to pull back - therefore the light front end.

I'm really looking forward to the Moose - the XL24 has an inverted stem so being a cruiser the front is really planted. NOT a wheelie machine. I always used to love turning the bike in a wheelie - slingshotting berms and stuff so I can't wait to have a burl on the Moose.

Only really got to get a chain and brake cable and I'm ready to build her. I'm going for Tuffs for everyday but building a Suzue/7X wheelset to chop and change as the mood takes me.
GTHODAD
Mr B
Your 'interested buyer' could bid for that Dash for Cash PK.

THE picture that has lived in my mind for a very long time.

i'm looking for a set of those jersey and pants, anyone?
Kurt.
Yeah - an absolute classic pic. So good Redline used it in promo work too.

I bought an autographed copy of it from BenOr for that Stu/Crews fundraising he was doing earlier this year.

www.martin-bike.com
I want to build a crews replica one day.

In the last 24 hours, 4 auctions from different sellers were pulled. What's going on? Are people offering crazy side deals???
Mr.BMX
GTHO:

my buyer wants a PK, not a replica ;-)
AndyDiamond
well, lucky I don't give a shizz about rugby - lol

At least it ain't the BMX world cup!

I didn't get to hook up with Greg Hill - not enough time.
He'll be back here in 6 months it seems so I will try and hook up some pics of him and the GHP then.
proline2
nice one Kurt. i remember that auction but i forgot to bid on it due to work.
Bradster
Hey Kurt-yeah you'll love the Moose for the fact that you can really muscle it around being a short wheel base 'n' all, it's easy to yank the front end up while accelerating, I had a few issues getting a bar height I was happy with, and now I'm going for a colour component change, so it's in bits..again!! I'm going for a longer, lower positioning stem, that should be good, missed out on a inverted stem on da bay a while back, too slow in placing a bid, but have one I can use.

Speaking of wheelies-my mate is a bit of a natural. He built his XL24 up and can pretty much mono it on demand!! Spewin' for me, the best I can do is yank and get a couple of cranks in whilst having a concerned look on my face! I've flipped a few dirt bikes in my time so maybe thats the problem!
biggrin.gif
84profile
The Hutch sounds awesome Brad...I actually love the feel of old school bikes and can't warm to the long new school stuff....My Pro-Racer is really comfy, being 5' 11" I'm neither short nor tall..but with a Profile Pro Bars, XXL DK stem and a 2n1 Hutch stem riser, it makes for a great fit. I'm not really keen on laid back posts, I feel like they unbalance the bike , particularly when you are sitting down...

I did a bunch of gate starts the other day, and the old Hutch seems to hold it's own in new school company! The new gate start call procedure, takes some getting dialed...still find myself hitting before it has dropped!

It is also pretty cool to wheelie too....but I can certainly hear you about flipping dirt bikes...I have some scares on my knees that can attest to a few nasty mishaps!! huh.gif
Bradster
Hey Stu, read your reply a few hours back and went straight out to finish assembling my 20" (Pro-Racer), thanks for the motivation!! It's amazing what a few changes did, I've fitted a straight seat post, re-greased f/r hubs, tensioned spokes, and generally put it together 'properly'. Now it's SWEET to ride! I'll post them both up in a thread soon for a bit of pose.

The new gate starts are a tad odd, eh?? I'm restricted to riding in senior cruiser class, I'm keen on a new SE or Kuwahara but I've got a sweet mid school ELF that I'm toying with using instead-see how that one goes.
Cheers
