I always thought VDC should have figured out a way to make "pierced" forks to match the rest of their bikes pierced tube components.
I never any VDC Bikes back when I was riding around are they post 1985 or were they never heavily imported into Australia ??

This one is from 83 with original chrome. Not sure about the Aussie connection - or if there ever was one. I recall it was fairly small advertising in the mags BITD.

Jul 22 2007, 06:39 PM
No many VDCs down here BITD, if any.
However, VDC made quite a few frames for other manufacturers at the time.

I'm sure i remember a BIG guy that used to race up here in S/E Q.L.D called "GORILLA" . He used to race one. At Windsor b.m.x track i saw him get cut off in one if his moto's...so he stopped, picked his bike up over his head, ran across the track to the next straight, and peged his bike at the rider that cut him off! He was a good shot too.LOL. Imagine throwing around a VDC these days!!!

VDC was imported into Australia by Super L.A [ grahme stevens ] who also brought in Powerlite around late 1983, so there here somewhere !
Oakley 1 and 2's came out in 1978. .5's late 1980.

here's another ebay sad story LOL
i wanted this robo for my daily and thought the price was ok. so i won it.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=29010803527310 weeks later i get an ebay mail from the seller saying he sent it to me but got returned to him. so he went to resend it and they want 400 us$ to send it. he knows i'm not going to pay that so he offers me a refund to be paid to my paypal account.
another 3 weeks go by with me checking my paypal and the money is never there. i sent him an email asking if he's sleeping well at night and that karma comes around. to add insult he's now unregistered so i can't leave the nice feedback i had planned. my first ebay ripoff. i'm just glad it wasn't a high dollar one.
on another note i bought a team robo off v8 ute the other week and after i paid him i havn't heard boo out of him and still havn't received the set. does anyone here know Anthony?
my buying experiences are turning a bit pear shaped lately. i'm still waiting for a GT frame set from last month too. god i hate waiting LOL
Kurt.
Jul 23 2007, 10:52 PM
Hey Allen,
Anthony will come through. Might be slow mailing but he's definitely straight up.
Really sucks about your ebay ripoff.
COASTY
Jul 24 2007, 12:05 AM
Yeah Anthony is fine. He's a fairly busy lad and he's ok. That sux about the other frame though.
I went to order some shirts from Hal and now they won't ship downunder either. Seems an Aussie has ripped him off too. Nice one whoever it was.
Andy, that guy has had a few callouts lately.

Jul 24 2007, 12:58 AM
thanks fellas that sets my mind at ease. i've seen him in here a few times and seems like a genuine bloke. like i said the waiting is the worst bit LOL
i hope to have some geese on here soon...was gunna do my red one today but, well the missus wanted stuff done and life is getting shorter LOL my team goose is nearly finished with all blue components but i'm thinking i'd rather see it as in the 1979 ad (minus the suede seat) roberto did some nice candy blue on the FF for me and it is SWEEEET!
COASTY
Jul 24 2007, 01:06 AM
Cool, I'm lookin forward to seeing that. I just ordered the correct stickers from Bill for my Supergoose. After all these years it's like a new beginning! LOL.
Allen, I went to Bundy on the weekend. That freedom sports place has some very nice midschool stuff.
Kurt.
Jul 24 2007, 01:34 AM
That really sucks on the shirt Glenn. I have one here I bought last year which is great.
Bit bizarre to ban all Australians because of one bad deal. I'm sure they've had bad deals from US guys too...

Jul 24 2007, 02:06 AM
yes, Glen, he had some nice bikes around the back and nice bits and pieces in the glass cabinets. the ol girl out the front had no idea LOL

No he wasnt ripped off, I never recieved the shirts I ordered. The first lot never came and he claimed to send a second lot which guess what, never showed either.
When I offered to pay extra for a tracking number, he just refunded my money. I just dont know why they werent tracked in the first instance, now we all miss out. I still want to order shirts, but he wont do it, thats not right, its not my fault they never came and I'm not about to tarnish my name over 3 shirts i'll give you the tip.
For the record, I recieved the first shirt I ordered thats why I ordered more (bigger size lol)

Jul 24 2007, 03:02 AM
does anyone know how to rebuild shockers on froks what happens after you take the sir clip out?? and I have rear shocks for a crossrider mx 1 can you rebuild them? Do they come apart? thanks!
broke L345
Jul 24 2007, 03:20 AM
I meant forks, sorry.
Kurt.
Jul 24 2007, 03:26 AM
Dunno Christian. Most rear shocks are rebuildable with the right tools. There used to be a guy advertised in Two Wheels magazine that he could rebuld pretty much anything. In the front forks, provided you can get replacement seals the right size, it's probably just a matter of ensuring the springs aren't broken and are the same length and that you replace the fork oil.
Hey Reece - that sucks mate. Itchy trigger finger I suspect...
COASTY
Jul 24 2007, 03:52 AM
Sorry Reece. I never got the story. I assumed it was someone thats been booted from here and they had a grudge. It seems a lot of things go missing between here and the US. It's unfortunate but it happens. My Skyway jersey for instance. No one is to blame really. Oh and I have a tracking # for the jersey too. Didn't help much.
Christian, from what I can remember the circlips comeout and the whole lot slides out. Refill with shockie oil and put it all back together. I did a google search once and found a lot of info. My shocks were ok so I didn't need to touch them. I do need to find some sort of boot for the front forks' shockies.

hey broke...wana race?
www.martin-bike.com
Jul 24 2007, 05:46 AM
Yep, I've seen the whole flanelcamel stable. I'm currently talking to him on some potential deals. The trick will be to build something that DOESN'T look like one of his.
Sourced these for the Changa just within the last hour:

And I can't help it, here it is again - been chasing this for a long time . . .

I've never seen a VDC with a number plate. Judging by the Monkey bars, maybe a Zeronine stadium plate will work.
Still undecided about the cranks. Thinking maybe a Phil spyder with 401s and the DB Turbo Lite chainring. Thoughts anybody?
Jarvi
Jul 24 2007, 05:59 AM
Any set of cranks would look good on that one Martin. It sure is a nice bit of metal.
www.martin-bike.com
Jul 24 2007, 06:06 AM
Sure is. It's going to be an agonising wait until I know it gets to me safely.
The frame set is so unique I want to compliment it with a unique parts selection.

This is what happens when you end up in hospital. I'm in hospital right now with waaaaay too much time on my hands, loaded up with pethadine and pressing buttons I shouldn't be in this state. LOL

Jul 24 2007, 06:29 AM
Sorry martin but is it just me or is the VDC one of the ugliest frame fork and Handle bar sets ever made. The more i look at it the more i wonder why. Im sure its a great bike but astheticly it looks un-finished.
Dont mean to offend anyone with that coment but i couldnt hold my tounge any more. Still love your builds Martin and hope you get well soon.

The aesthetics is what I love about it. Wokrmanship of VDC is renound also.

VDC bars not all that different to CW
As for weird frame sets:
- Quadangle
- pierced tube GT
- CW Phaze 1
- PK Ripper
- Floval Flyer
- Skyway TA
- Profile
- pierced tube and eliptical tube JMCs
- Torker
All these frame sets, VDC included, have their idiosyncracies. It's what makes them uniquely old school and for me . . . aesthetically pleasing beyond measure.
GTHODAD
Jul 24 2007, 10:29 AM
That VDC looks fine to me. There is lot more uglier out there.
The Gary Fisher Pro issue from 97 was way uglier (but NOT the Fatboy).
Jarvi
Jul 24 2007, 03:47 PM
Add the Hutch Trickstar and some of the earlier 2Hip frames from Ron Wilkerson as pierced tube exampes. And for another unusual frames add GJS, Haro, GT, Morales, Peregrine and MCS onto the list.
Actually, with the mid-sized bottom brackets being used these days the you could almost do a pieced downtube around the bottom bracket if you wanted to.
AndyDiamond
Jul 24 2007, 05:05 PM
Just trying to remember the co-cponser for VDC in the number plate dept. - I think it was HAro.
A Circiut Board in balck with grey panel would look nice on that VDC.
You'll need some black and grey B1Bs Martin
www.martin-bike.com
Jul 24 2007, 05:38 PM
Yeah James, more weird ones for sure.
That's very useful info Andy thanks. If you know of any race pic shots, can you let me know the mag and issue they are in please?
I was thinking of a circuit board but I'm pretty sure they came out in late 84 at the earilest. Your thoughts?
GTHODAD
Jul 25 2007, 12:18 AM
By the way Ugly does not equal Bad.
Jarvi-Revtec frames are a good example of pierced BBs.
rsrichie
Jul 25 2007, 01:26 AM
good call GTHODAD i never said it was bad, its just not apealing to my tastes and neither were CW, but i love all the other bikes mentioned. Maybe its the oversize tubing, which i like in the floval style, but not in the round. I know im weird but wouldnt it be boring if we were all the same.

Actually, RRS has it as well..
I have to agree with rsrichie, the VDC's look weird to me. Dont get me wrong, they certainly look very well made, and I am sure they are. I personally think that they look "overdone" with the extra pierced tubes.
Regardless, I'm sure you will build it to your usual high standard Martin
I bet you're looking forward to getting home for a while

Martin, I got say that VDC does it for me big time, then again I'm into those wacky Profile things! Also loving the sonlites! I reckon you are on the money with 401's, maybe profile spider, pro-neck ring
Flanelcamel has hooked me many times, he is a class act, great to deal with!
Hope you get better, although the longer you are in hospital, seems like the more wicked projects we will have to look at!
That is pretty funny Glenn, did you see the other one on youtube that some dude put in a bucket and then deployed whilst sitting on it..just about took is nuts off! Idiots!
