Might be a bit dangerous if I send my mother along. I've had her in tears when giving computer support and I can imagine the rage I'd go through if she is trying to describe something and not giving me the correct details.
Mum: There's something here that says aero something
Me: Does it say Aerospeed?
Mum: I dont know I can't read the rest of it
Me: Well look harder. Does your phone have a camera, just send a picture to me?
Mum: I don't know how to use the camera bit.
Me: Well what colour? Are they chrome?
Mum: No, one is red and the other is black.
Me: Does the rest of it say Kashimax?
Mum: Yes that's probably what it is.
Me: Offer them $5 each.
Eco Salv are at 4 Nairana St, Invermay.

hmmm - Well, I may have some NOS Rainbows for trade.
Do you just want 1.75s or do you require 2.125s also?
Jun 13 2007, 05:14 PM
Mate of mine went down to Eco Salv first thing this morning and nothing much there. Interestingly it is one of the larger shops from down there and a for lease sign on the building. Not sure if they are just downsizing or selling up. If the latter a classic case of resting on their laurels and not keeping up with things.
Of course this opinion is based on living hundreds of miles away and visiting once or twice a year, so it's a well informed opinion as usual.

Hi everyone. We've had another baby. Last night. Beautiful little girl. Hayley Joyce . 9 pound 14 and a 1/2. (about 4kg). I'm just doing the ringing around part atm...so i thought i'd let you guys know too.

Hey that's great news Roy. Congratulations. Now you can start on her first BMX.
Jun 13 2007, 07:16 PM
Andy, Only want 1.75's. Can swap one set of NOS 24x1.75 Skinwalls (rainbow label) for one set of NOS 20x1.75 Skinwalls (not fussed about the label, sure you'd rather just swap rainbows).
Let me know what you want to do. Got a lonely set of rims wanting some rubber love.
Jun 13 2007, 07:19 PM
I only have Rainbows in 1.75.
I'll check how many I have and let you know

I just bought a GT, has anyone got a pic of the forks I need to go with a santa ana?
Jun 14 2007, 10:01 AM
Congratulations Roy!! You better get started on a pitty now!
Just depends what year, here are mine from 82 era....
here is a set on my 84 era
Jun 14 2007, 03:36 PM
The forks in the bottom pica are 85.
You will have a tough time finding pre 85 GT forks.
And be prepared to pay!
Jun 14 2007, 03:58 PM
Quicksilver BMX , Tange TRX with GT stickers or the early Bottemas without the plug or maybe the racing Bottemas , are always an option on an Australian GT build. bitd early US made frames were near impossible to buy here & the forks were even harder to get. Unless you were sponsored by GT , or whatever US factory teams were representing here in the early 1980's , TRX forks were on about 70% of every US made frame that made it's way into the country , there must have been extremely high tarrif's on bringing in complete frame + fork sets or something similar back then...
It all depends on how authentic to reality you want to make your build local build.
Jun 14 2007, 04:31 PM
Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. the buby is just beautiful.
Man i love looking at those early gt's. Beautiful frames. Reece....another score!! Well done brother!!
Jun 14 2007, 05:39 PM
Late as usual , Congrats Roy!!
Jun 14 2007, 07:02 PM
It must be the season for baby's, We've just had a little girl. Looks like there will be a demand for micro-mini's in about 2 years time!
Jun 14 2007, 07:36 PM
Lol - yeah - my boy is now 4 months old.
Jun 14 2007, 08:31 PM
QuicksilverBMX i got a set of 82/3 forks what monaro stuff you got to trade...
Jun 15 2007, 12:59 AM
Probably a bit off the "I've got a new baby" topic, and of course not nearly as significant as a living, breathing baby, BUT:
We've just given birth to a new baby today....
Jun 15 2007, 03:29 AM
Nice mag AJ. I love classic bikes. Only got rid of my Bonnie 2 months ago.
Hey fellas - if any of you were wondering what you missed at Ecosalv in Tassie, don't worry!
Unless of course you are after a tool bag for the back of your seat, or a basket for the front, or a rear vision mirror, or some 27" tyres, or a Cheng Shin tube, or some rubber block pedals, or some low end road bike bits!!!
The stuff they have is some of the old stock from McBains cycles (since changed it's name) that they've been dumping at the tip for months. It's the same store that dumped a NOS boxed CW Phaze 1 FF a couple of years ago. Same shop I got a stack of Aero plates from earlier this year. All the stuff left is crap now though!
Jun 15 2007, 03:52 AM
Might be easier to offer a congratulations to all new parents, or old parents with new babies as there seem to be a few. Gary (JC) is also a new dad as of a couple of weeks ago so that's another to add to the list.
Kurt, do you know what is happening with Sloane's? A for lease sign on the building. Is he downsizing as the shop always looked half full compared to the good old days.
Bradster, I forgot to thank you for letting us know, even though it turned out to be a bust. Just means the odds are more in our favour for the next one...
Jun 15 2007, 04:14 AM
Looking at theose photos of Stu's bikes makes me
Got a cigarette? Man, that is a nice line up. I want the wheels on my PR240 to end up looking like the blue rimmed wheels on the GT... Top stuff!
Does anyone have a set of those hubs?
Jun 15 2007, 04:40 AM
He told me he was leasing the top floors as office space - I had the impression from him that he already had a tenant, but doesn't sound like it. As you know there's some nice space up there - you could get lost.
It's never been the same business since the name change. Although Geards was the racers store BITD, McBains had their share of good gear.
Jun 15 2007, 04:42 AM
Oh and LOL Mcam. You GT guys are deviants!
Jun 15 2007, 04:46 AM
Thanks Kurt. Yes both McBains and Geards got plenty of my money (and my parents) over the years. Three completes plus parts from McBains and a Hutch and PK Ripper plus heaps of parts from Geards. Barry sold a quad angle recently so watch out for one around the traps soon.
Stu's line is impressive. I was thinking the same as you Mike.
Jun 15 2007, 04:53 AM
Its nothing to do with being a GT guy... Its because I am a Kiwi I guess...
<insert sheep joke here>
Those sure are nice bikes though. Stu has every right to be very proud of them!
Jun 15 2007, 05:24 AM
Mike just remember Kurt is a Tasmanian so feel free to throw around the jokes about inbreeding and two heads.
Jun 15 2007, 05:49 AM
Hahahaha... I dont feel so bad about the sheep jokes then
It is 11:50pm, so its time for sleep for me
Jun 15 2007, 06:35 PM
Tis a shame Ecosalv was a flop-spose there was only one way to find out, if one of the Tassie lads had found a stash of o.s. gear it would have got this thread a crankin' . Maybe next time???
Jun 15 2007, 08:06 PM
congrats to Paul K and johnny C on their new arrivals!
Prosight all my monaro stuff is worth a little more than a pair of forks. The cheapest thing I have is a genuine GTS badge but then thats not worth a pair of GT forks
Jun 15 2007, 10:35 PM
quote:Sorry, i mis-read it ;-)
It is 11:50pm, so its time for sheep for me
Jun 15 2007, 11:20 PM
Some VERY EARLY Tuff-wheel & Motomag designs....
Jun 15 2007, 11:38 PM
LOL at the above piccy
