Coasty that makes it worse, I was wearing 60s PJs in the 70s. Yikes.
Reason we all had the shirt was probably because it was the only transfer design available. Unlike today where you can buy the transfer paper at Officeworks and put whatever you want on there.
Actually think I look a bit evil in that second photo. Perhaps it's because some-one cut the top of my head and it was hurting! Seriously, I cropped about 3cms from the bottom of the photo and nothing from the top. Unless it was a polite way of saying half dead grass looked better than the top of my head.

I don't think I would have ever hooked up & ridden with you bitd , if you were wearing a generic BMX T shirt like that shirt bitd Coasty.
You must have worn it out before I met you , generic T shirts like that instantly invoked the thought of "stocker" or worse in my mind back then.
Our sponsor may have been stingy when it came to giving us BMX hardware for free , but we were never short of bike shop T shirts with his logo on them...

Bradster: I'm sure we have all gotten a lot of presents as kids that were bought with all the best intentions a parent or relative could possibly have , but , you never really used or played with them all that much......
I still feel guilty about selling Moosegoose's to parents who's kids didn't quite properly inform them about the _exact_ type of mongoose they wanted santa to bring them.......
Jun 9 2007, 12:19 AM
Hey great pics James - thanks for sharing. Sure looks like the '70s to me. Gotta scan some pics in but I'm sure my haircut was pretty similar then.
Geez JB - Can't help but think not many of us would have met your definition of cool BITD. I'd lay money nearly all of us would have had regular mass produced BMX tops at some stage!
Jun 9 2007, 12:26 AM
Some of us were sponsored by our parents...
Good stuff with the videos MB.
Jun 9 2007, 01:59 AM

Awsome Stu. Really nice mate.
Jun 9 2007, 02:24 AM
Before I was sponsored by Champion Cycles, I was sponsored by Victa and all the neighbours. I mowed so many lawns to get my stuff. The only bits I ever got from my parents was the Supergoose f/f for xmas/bday. I paid for the PK and the Gooses good bits from that lawnmower. My dad still has the lawnmower at his place too. Still runs like a dream, Like the goose.
Jun 9 2007, 02:41 AM
Got say it was hard work getting the bikes you wanted when you had to pay for em' yourself...but you sure as h*ll appreciated them when you finally got them...
Jun 9 2007, 04:05 AM
Very nice DB Stu!!
Does anyone have info, pics, adds, anything on Crisp Brothers racing? Just like to know some history behind the bike i'm building. I used to race against Dean, but don't know to much about his bikes.

I''l check thru Matt & my old family photo's , to check Matt & my fashion sense pre BMX & early BMX + post a few scans of us to see if I have shot myself in the foot with my fashion statements.
Here's an ealy one of me , with my favourite toy , a 35mm camera light meter.
Be warned tho , we spent most of our summer holidays at Forster caravan park & Matt & my birthdays both fall close to either side of Xmas so most of our clothes presents to wear for the year were bought from the surf shops up there , or locally at the Blacktown Shopping center , so a plain black , white or blue T shirt bought fresh from The Target' Fashion Boutique , would shortly get decorated with one of those press iron on "glitter" transfers using my money before we left , skulls , snakes , daggers , cars & all that sort of stuff was _very_ popular & readily available in Blacktown during the mid 1970's not much in the way of BMX was available at the time <heh>
I can remember reading the "Billabong , since 1973" logo thing on a set of boardshorts or a sticker on a surf shop window in ~1975 when I was 7 or 8 years old & wondering if it was a joke.......
I'll see what old photo's I can dig up , I got plenty of photo's of Coasty , before he left for QLD...& a lot more interesting than this one.
This is what we bacame after we left skool had jobs & were finished with BMX racing , but , just wouldn't let go of our bikes...BMX Thugs.
Life was like the movie "A Clockwork Orange" on 2 wheels....
Might be worth starting a new VBMX fashion thread in here....

lol Porn star metal head!
Picked this little number up today. The trip to work is now a lot quicker. Noisy as h*ll with the powerpipe on there. It's been stalled up too. Rev it up and let her rip. Loads of fun.
Jun 9 2007, 04:00 PM
don't know about porn star......how about "chopper"?
very nice bikes in here lately. i'll have to get my finger out and finish some of my projects.
Jun 9 2007, 05:00 PM
Cool Coasty , you finally bought the frame that we had always wanted to fit a 750cc+ 4 stroke shaft drive rear end into , that will quieten the thing down & up the straight line performance considerably
Jun 9 2007, 05:21 PM
The neighbours are lookin at me with evil eyes already. This thing is very loud! I might have to put the stock pipe back on it.
Jun 10 2007, 01:43 AM

has anyone had trouble communicating through ebay lately?
i've bought some items by BIN and i always ask for an invoice before sending payment. this helps to prevent mistakes, but i asked a vendor 4 days ago and i have not heard from them, even after 3 emails asking for the total invoice. i also had another incident with a British vendor who was adament she never received any emails through ebay.
Jun 11 2007, 01:35 AM
Not "onsaboy" by any chance?...cos i have an issue with them atm...as in no communication even after 2 requests for total.
Jun 11 2007, 01:48 AM
No problems from me with ebay at the moment. That said, I always tick the box to send a message to my email address just in case I need proof I've been trying to contact the seller.
Jun 11 2007, 01:56 AM
Hi guys ! Been a long time since i had a few minutes to drop by ! I'm hoping someone might have - 1 all black, new school Comp 3 tyre 20 x 2.125 spare, either new or close to new. I've got plenty of Comp 3 black skinwalls, Gnarler Nobbies, + cruiser tyres to trade, if anyone has one ?
Jun 11 2007, 02:27 AM
Pete are you chasing the new "white" writing logo?
Jun 11 2007, 05:19 AM
RL20II_too, no it's skatepool in england. i've bought off him before and had no problems. so i was thinking it may be the ebay mail that's the problem. i don't know, i may just move on to vert or rude and forget the BIN from skatepool.
Jarvi, i write all my transactions in a book, even non ebay ones and use it as reference all the time. we get enough emails without sending them to ourselves as well LOL.
Jun 11 2007, 05:34 AM
I'd say Steve from Skatepool is the best of many of the old school shops. Have you tried emailing him outside of ebay? Heard way worse things about Rudewheels ignoring messages although I've never bought from them. Hope it works out for you.
As for sending myself emails, it's much better evidence than records in a book. I've been known to send emails to other email addresses just as proof that the email was sent and the other party can't then turn around and say I never sent it. Sure, they can argue they never received it however they can't argue that it was never sent. Call me paranoid, but I did work with lawyers for too many years and perhaps some of it rubbed off on me.
Jun 12 2007, 04:02 AM
Guys bear with me for a second.
I got a quote from some ballbag chrome plater (here in Hervey Bay) today for a set of forks and some redline Vbars.
The forks are bare steel and the Vbars are the original Nickel plated.
This guy wanted to tell me that it would cost me $300 for the both of them !!!!!! $150 each.
Surely thats not right? How much are you guys payin for chrome work?
Roberto if you read this mate I'll be callin you real soon.
Jun 12 2007, 04:31 AM
coasty seriously , i have posted this in a few threads over the past year , i got my chrome quad , and a set of CW bars done for $60 here in adelaide , the place is called Chromatec , i tried to explain i needed them done in SHOW CHROME , the old italian owner didnt understand me (irish accent) he kept tellin me that the better i poilsh it the better the finish . well he polished them and chromed them for $60 . to be honest i didnt know what to expect when i went back but they were BEAUTIFUL !
im not sure if nickle can be chromed over without stripping ???? anyone ?
Jun 12 2007, 04:37 AM
Coasty I've had a set of bars stripped and rechromed for under $50 and that included them fixing the usual scratches on the bends. Also had a set of Profile cranks, a seat post and some fork pegs for about the same. To quote the good Aussie movie, The Castle, "Tell him he's dreamin'."
Perhaps he just has enough work at the moment and didn't want to do them. I've been known to add nuisance rates to some of my work.

I have a local chromer who has done a fantastic job of some 401's... for $25... For the pair...
About the same for handlebars too..
Jun 12 2007, 05:07 AM
Cool. I thought he was dreamin. I knew it couldn't possibly be that much. When I told him I collect and restore BMX bikes his face screwed up and I could tell he wasn't really interested. Thats the trouble with being out of town. I have to send them down to Brissy now or Bundy.
Jun 12 2007, 06:11 AM
Jarvi, Where did you get your chroming done? I'm after a good chromer in Melbourne.
Jun 12 2007, 06:49 AM
What sort of turn around time are you guys getting for the chrome work??
Jun 12 2007, 06:54 AM
Mate over here got a pair of KOS forks done for $45 and another mate got a Proline 2 f/f done for $180. turnaround about a week or 2 depending on which chromer.
Jun 12 2007, 08:36 AM
Anybody know of any good chromers in Sydney?
Jun 12 2007, 02:41 PM
ACGTO it's Nunawading Specalised Electroplaters 328 Whitehorse Road which is near the corner with Springvale Road. One thing to remember (and it seems to be a common thing) be specific with what you want and what must remain, such as sharp edges, stamping etc. Waza has a guy over the other side of the city if that's more convenient but I can't remember the name at the moment. In Sunshine if I think.
Turnaround time for me is usually a week although the last few bits were 2 weeks which was fine with me.

Jun 12 2007, 03:31 PM
Thanks Jarvi. Nunawading is probably best for me as it's easier to get to during the day. I live down the coast and drive to Melbourne each day so Waza's man is a bit more out of the way. Thanks for the info.
Jun 12 2007, 04:01 PM
Ah chroming...isn't that a lottery....I've used two guys, one down in Lismore and the other here on the Gold Coast. Prices have been somewhat reasonable. The Lismore chromer is cheaper and generally does a great job, but the draw back..he is S L O W like 2-3 months slow!! But it is normally worth the wait. My local guy, is pretty quick, however I have had to send stuff back for him for him to get right.
Prices: Forks $50, Frames $140, Handlebars $50, Hubs $80 a set, Stems $40, Cranks $80, Rims $120 a set...etc...yep I've spent some time at the chromers!
