What's the message here Waza? Be careful or you will end up with over 100 bikes and a killer workshop?
www.martin-bike.com
Or maybe . . . people with obsessive compulsive personalities should avoid collecting Mongooses?
www.martin-bike.com
I wish you told me about that warning earlier.
proline2
i'm glad you blokes are talking geese now as my next project is going to be one. i'm leaning towards late '70 early '80 prefering the looptail, maybe a jag. was there such a frame in full cro-mo? also the fork that has the dropout directly under the tube but not the pinched one. am i correct in saying these would be "team" forks? and how will i id a frame/fork from that time? sorry for all the q's but i'm a mongoose dunce LOL

martin your flyer is superb. you cannot go past black with gold components. although i like quicky's black and gold one the best because, well, it is a quicksilver.LOL
jarvi i bought the cruiser (os cruisers were a bit dear) so i could ride with my son when he visits. he helped me build the mid redline (which he likes the most), but the prolineII is the flagship and always will be.
QuicksilverBMX
Hey Proline2 I sold that Quicksilver to a guy in Sydney, that was my first ever build!
Heres a cool Mongoose story, a local guy wanted some V bars for a project so I had a set for him. Anyway, he comes over to pick them up and says here have these straight bars, i dont need them anymore. So i threw them in the pile. Anyway, with some ID help from waza, turns out they're un-stamped stainless mongoose bars!

Also has anyone got any old school cruiser bars? I'm about to start another project.

proline2
wow quicky, i thought that beauty would have been a keeper, z rims too if i remember correctly?

i'm thinking the correct mongoose double clamp could prove difficult to find if not expensive as well?
waza007
I'll answer your other questions in a couple of hours.
proline2
yeah, thats it waza, i remember my friend had one around '79/'80, i think.
www.martin-bike.com
LOL . . . "golden boogie track" . . . I wanna ride on that!!!
COASTY
I'm lovin that Floval. Looks very classy in those colors.
Jags are cool. I've always liked them. Maybe because there wasn't a lot around back then. Not like Mongeese and Redlines anyway. Proline2 those rides are very nice. You've done a great job with all of them. I'll have mine done soon when the chromers re-open and I find a few more bits. I hope to find a one-piece crank soon.
Keep it up guys. Bring on 2007.
QuicksilverBMX
How did they make those bikes stand up by themselves in those catalogues BITD?
www.martin-bike.com
Thanks Coasty!

Photos: the same way I did mine last summer - 2 people, one on the camera, the other holding the bike. Countdown, let go, click and then grab for your life.

Next time I'll be experimenting with a perspex rod proped up under the axles. I know that's how they do mountain bike product shots now.

Final update for tonight before I start on the Torker.

OldSkoolRoy
A big thanks to Scott Service. He sent me some NOS crank/spindle caps and some of those nice chrome thingys that hold the cable on the top tube. I've put them on the HUTCH allready. Thanks Scott...the finishing touches look very swish!!
Mattblack
Hey who is his Damon bloke ??? Nice guy ???

The only Damon I know is just some big wobbly gut bloke on a bike/computer. He does need to spend more time on the computer. He would log on but
COASTY
lol meathead.
Has the rest of his age group caught up to his size yet?? lol
Mattblack
Metal head too.

He is expanding outwards now days. To much Ebay I think. Fishing
waza007
Cant be the same Damon I know!!

Cos the Damon i know lives on eBay!!!

Oh Yeah nice red 7b rims....... ya got now Damon!!
proline2
after a bit of looking around, the only bmx product's frames from late '70's to early '80's with looptails were jags and blue max (there's a blue max on the bay at the moment but i'm hesitant spending on something i know nothing about). looks like it may be a supergoose or team for me if i can find one. as i understand the id number on a team mongoose should start with a "t" but i'm unsure with the supergoose. anymore info from you knowledgable folks would be a superb act of kindness and goodwill and will last in my memory until the day they drop me into the .........
broke L345
yes the team should have a "T" at the beginning but I don't think they were loopies.
proline2
yeah broke, the only loops were the jag and blue max. after some more searching in this forum i've also found that both team and supers had the "t". the only difference i can see between the 2 is that one was plated the other was candy blue or red. it's amazing how much knowledge is in here, which makes it waaaaay easier to identify specific items before handing over the hard earned cash. now i get to live on ebay until i find one LOL
Dirtboy
Damon ....wasn't he that 15 year old kid that raced in the 12yr division (fish'n too )
Bradster
Hey Waza, appreciate the pics and info, keep 'em coming it's the only way us new guys are going to get brought 'up to speed' my right clicking is in full flight!!!!!
So all Mongoose's that are full cro-mo are team issues and chrome plated versions are supergoose then?? Stepdown dropout refering to the rear dropout I presume? 1/2 cro-mo frames standard Mongoose then? How am I doing??

Spot on Bradster.

I'll give you a hint

Red chain stay wraps = 1/2 cromo
Yellow chain stay wraps = Full cromo

Also there were a couple of other looptail mongoose brands

Mototrac

Team Raleigh Rampar(mongoose made)

The bluemax on ebay is about 82-83 as it has holes in the dropouts. Nice frame and nice price but no paypal which = dramas IMHO.

The stepdown dropout "Team/supergoose" does not have the "T" stamped underneath, but as mentioned before does have the extra holes in the brake bridge as they changed the numbering system by then.

(75-76) serial # =
number only starting from serial # 10000

(77-81) serial # =
T = If team/supergoose model
C = Chatsworth (where they were made)
Letter = Month of build (IE: F = June)
Number = Year

(81-83) serial # =
Letter = Month of build (IE: F = June)
Number = Year

(83- onwards) Serial #
M=Taiwan made
Number = Year

Oh BTW
* The gold stem and mongoose stamped spider are brass plated with clearcoat over it.
** I do have a gold stem in 24Kt gold plate that someone did cos they couldnt figure out whati was.
*** The Candy red/Blue is translucent powdercoat over nickel (later over chrome).

broke L345
waz,

I have a takagi spider with mongoose stamp chrome or stainless.???? what can you tell me about it?

Thanks mate, (it's not for sale though )

and just waiting to chrome a frame so I can finally start putting some nice new bits on it. Feels like it's been going for ever
proline2
fantastic waza you've filled in the gaps.
waza007
Definatly brass plated its just faded. Not stainless may have been chrome plated by someone later. Ive got a stash of NOS ones and they are real goldly color. Its possible that they were Cad plated the same color as the rear spokets were.

waza007
hey broke

notice the color of the crank arm against the color of the spider. Its brass and its really faded.
mcam
Waza, check yer email
Mattblack
OK, I have been told and caught a fish
I'm not to pick on my elders

If you can text me then you can join VBMX

Edit cause I am stupid speller
