Was hoping to take some shots in the sun this morning but Sydney weather hasn't been the best this summer.
Progress shot of the candy red looptail PK. Decals on the number plate are sticky taped on - still working out placement.

Hey Aussie crew, Bit of help needed: Getting my Moose close to complete, but a bit stuck on brakes-popped into the local bike shop y/day-they have a pair of Dia-Compe Bulldog calipers there that they claim are strong/flex free, anyone using these and any good with tuffs? Also fitted a no-name caliper to the front for a test ride-the brake blocks have left a slight black mark on the rim-best way to remove the mark? Do I need to get a pair of Skyway colour coded pads??
Cheers and happy new year!

Looks like the boys had a good time Andy.
Martin that ripper looks real nice. I love red rippers.
Bradster, Just buy some mx 1000's or Shimano Tourneys from ebay or one of the UK online shops. I know they're not cheap but they are NOS. Or if your not fussy there's plenty of copy mx1000's around. Definately get some Tuff pads in yellow too. Those rims will be blacker than a nuns.... oh you get the idea.

well, well, well, looks like it got a bit hot in here over the last week and we've ended up with a casualty. reminds me of school 30 years ago. my only real thought on what has happened is when two had a fight at school both got punished.
it's a shame not as much effort goes into accolades for people's complete bike builds as does for b i t c h fights over trivial things. i've only been here a short while and noticed that very few seem to care about others builds. maybe you've all seen it before, maybe the way this topic is structured dosn't help. i don't know, maybe you do? whatever the answer is perhaps being civil and understanding to each other may prevent what has happened over the last week that was supposed to be a merry time.
have happy new year everyone.

Nothing new - didn't an icon of Australian BMX among others leave this thread because of the bad attitude here?
I spent 7 hours last night talking to another icon of old school BMX in Australia. He was reluctant to join up officially because of this issue.
As for commenting on builds - happens to everyone. Posted my PK yesterday and got 2 responses. If people want a comment on their builds, they should comment on other's also.

Dec 29 2006, 05:31 PM
tit for tat then martin? "oh i'm not going to comment on your build because you didn't comment on mine" mentality. a bit immature in my book.
how about the structure of this topic dosn't lend itself to comment because the build pics posting may have been 3 pages earlier? or some folks don't get on this site everyday? or is it really because people don't care?
nice PK you got there, martin. actually all your builds are very nice and are a credit to you, keep 'em coming!
how long til you finish your Stu rep?

I wasn't commenting about myself proline2. I do comment on other builds when I am on this thread. I was pointing out that others don't comment. Agree that it is probably a combination of the structure of the thread and visitation frequency. Others have also mentioned that people don't comment. I was trying to point out that everyone experiences the same thing and that a lack of comment should not be taken personally.
As for your triviality comment, would you think it trivial if I threatened you or your family. Don't think so.
Thanks for the compliments on my builds.
It's not a Stu rep - building it my way. Hit a snag with the Suntour Superbe track hubs. Need to source different gauge spokes.

I'm always here because I have no life! lol I just love lookin at all the builds. I was hoping this thread would move along a bit. We don't need all that crap. This is a site for bikes. Nothin else.
I thank Martin for all his builds and everyone else. Thats why I'm here. Andys bikes are good too. I'm still gettin over his GHP. One of the best I've seen.
I've been through a lot of crap on the other BMX site and I'm just now getting around that.
We all make mistakes. I have and If everyone just talks bikes and leaves politics and *****yness out of it, we'll be around for a while yet.
Now I'm goin for a ride soon with my son. Thats what it's all about.
Martin, tell Damon to come on here. I wanna see pics.

Yeah, it was a revelation spending 7 hours with the man. The guy is seriously hooked. I know you're reading this Damon so get on here - you're amongst friends.
He has a bunch of serious builds going on - very rare stuff that was helped by alot he kept from BITD.

I wouldnt worry about it too much Martin, If I worried about the lack of interest in some of my builds, I would have left a long time ago. Dont take offense, I just think that some builds arent everyone's cup of tea. I know Quicksilvers arent a worldwide bike so the comments are always going to be less, so i live with it.
I said it before and I'll say it again, It doesnt matter what the decals say, Its the time and effort which should be recognised, not the brand.

Damon Bevan.... I wonder if he remembers my brother and I talking to him at Liverpool, at one of the night meetings. Somehow I doubt it
We were over there on holiday, and his parents offered us a couple of bikes to race. We declined, happy to soak up the atmosphere. My brother was especially impressed. He had just picked up a Black Shadow frameset from Turramurra Cycles that afternoon.
I can recall he was a pretty cool guy to talk to.

HI Guys
F.Y.I.
Just because i dont post much does not mean i dont like or dislike anyones build/ builds. I also stopped posting scores ages ago cos i found so much stuff, I felt like it was showing off. I have saved over 12,000 images from various bmx websites and ebay, many of them are bikes and parts posted by you guys in Oz.
I post up pics of my builds so that others may enjoy them. If they dont, well thats ok too. If somebodys half built "ACME" gets more posts than my complete NOS "widget". So what!! There are quite a few guys here that have been collecting WAY BEFORE this website and BEFORE they knew ANY other guys AND they were happy then when NO ONE else even saw their bikes. So whats changed??
I have freind who does bikes for charity and recently the other charites are getting snooty??
Maybe its because they have FORGOTTEN about the real reason they were doing it in the first place
Its about the bikes,
the hunting for them
the scoring of them
the restoring of them
the building of them
Lastly the inner peace you get from enjoying something you have built with your own hands.
Not to forget enjoying seeing kids or yourself riding them. whether riding or just admiring them, both is good as the enjoyment is the KEY here.
Same as the charities that lose the sight of the fact that its supposed to be about kids getting bikes that cant afford them!
Many members have said to me that maybe i could open a bike shop or make a living selling them. I wont cos the FUN of bikes would be gone if i was busy with trying to sell parts to pay bills and worrying about the advertising or the political dramas with rival bike shops down the road.
END RESULT = the ENJOYMENT is GONE!
On a similar side note
Please keep this in mind with this website. Hal,Rick and Bill have done a superb effort in this website and also the recent mongoose decals. Keep in mind this is NOT their full time jobs and is done purely cos they LOVE VBMX. If they charged an annual fee they would make money but they dont!!. (the $25 doesnt count as it was to keep HIT'N'RUN posters away from this site)
Martin, 7 hours, you got off lightly!!!!!.......LMAO
Damon is one cool guy and a wealth of BITD info!!
Remember my workshop is open to anyone that wants to drop in and work on their bike. Spokes cut to length is now easier as i got a Phil Wood spoke cutter. Its cuts to length and rolls the thread on any spokes with one turn of the handle
cheers

Nice one Waza. More bikes, less politics.
Why should you feel like you are showing off? Where's the cut off between showing 1, 2 or all? Don't worry about it I say and post ALL OF IT!!! The reason you kept those 10,000 images (as I do), is for inspiration and reference. I would welcome you posting everything you found, built, restored, whatever - I would not think you were showing off. I would enjoy them and be inspired. Anybody who does think showing something on this thread, on this site, in this hobby is showing off should consider all the reasons you just outlined.
Yeah, Damon is cool. Can't wait to see his Darrell Young and Andy Patterson builds.
That's some serious equipment you have there Waza. Hardcore . . . I like it.

I can vouch for that Phil Wood spoke cutter and threader. I nearly fell over when I saw how simple and quickly it does it. I was over at Waza's last night and talked and checked out more of his bikes as he rebuilt a cassette hub tuff for me. Not a bad way to spend a Friday night.
Just got back from a ride and the one thing I don't like about riding a BMX is when you get passed by a person on a 27 speed mountain bike. And it was a GIRL. Of course I then tried keeping up with her and could have passed her if I wanted to...but the view was probably better from where I stayed.

Cool Floval, they are real nice to ride!!
Ok check this out
Mongoose Advert
1/2 cromo, motomags, ashtabula stem, 1" "team" style forks, step down dropouts.
Most people mistake the stepdown dropout as a supergoose!!!
www.martin-bike.com
Dec 30 2006, 12:06 AM
What year is that ad? So are you saying no Supergooses had the step down? Now I'm confused.
www.martin-bike.com
Dec 30 2006, 12:14 AM
Or the step down was found on other bikes in addition to the Supergoose?
waza007
Dec 30 2006, 12:23 AM
NO, what im saying is a lot of guys think ALL step down dropout gooses are supergooses
Supergoose =
"CHROME PLATED" FULL CROMO (Team) MONGOOSE
IN either stepdown or non-stepdown dropouts.
Sooooo go and get your team frame chromed and voila...... Supergoose!!!!
mcam
Dec 30 2006, 12:23 AM
Floval is looking real good Martin. Oh how I could kill for a set of those gold rims. I know someone with a NOS pair, but they wont budge
What bars are on the Floval? Are they SE cruiser bars?
Waza, is that cruiser for riding the ramps at the local bhuddist temple? LOL
waza007
Dec 30 2006, 12:30 AM
Additionally a 1/2 cromo stepdown frame has only 1 hole in the brake bridge and that is where the caliper bolts through. A TEAM/SUPERGOOSE full cromo frame has 2 extra slotted holes either side of the center hole on the brake bridge. But only on the stepdowm dropout model.
