Old School BMX show in Melb on Sat NOv 11 @ Knox BMX track
Oh sh**t! It's to early for me to catch up with you guys.
HowardinOz
Just thinking about ebay and the latest trends.
Seems to me that the bottom has finally fallen out of OS BMX, or atleast slowed right down.
Prices of sought after bikes has deffinately dropped.
The only bikes which seem to be holding value are SE's and even those are available alot cheaper lately than they were a year ago. I remember it wasn't unusual for a good PK loop frame and forks to fetch near on USD$1000.00 last year.
SE's were really popular when I was racing in the 80's. Everybody looked at the 'gold' PK at the track in awe.
I think the ebay trend was made obvious recently when V8 put a couple of awesome bikes up and nobody grabbed them. Granted they had hefty price tags but a year ago they would have deffinately been snapped up!
Thoughts????
broke L345
sorry wazza, you are absolutly correct, I should read my emails propperly. I'll be there, do you think they might let us ride them on the track if we choose to this time. alot of us hold a vbmx licence if they are worried about injury.

howard I have noticed cookbros and Patterson FF being cheaper, torkers are still holding value and are few and far between, I have been looking for an mx 80-82 for about a year now and finally found one. I was happy to pay pretty much whatever it took. Comp 2's however are still being snapped up at stupid prices. and we know hutch stuff is overinflated ( sorry to the hutch people no disrespect intended).

it's funny, we want bargains but we don't want the bubble to burst. I'm sure there are alot of people that used to ride in the 80's that don't even know this is going on and would love to score a mongoose or something. that's why I like the gatherings, it introduces new people and keeps this crazy hobby afloat. So bring your bikes to knox and we can keep the interest up.

I think we need an oldschool class or parade at races between the motos and the finals, or have old school write ups in the current bmx mags.

I'm also still looking for a cookbros seat post, and I'm sure I won't get one of those for a bargain.
AndyDiamond
I don't agree the bottom has fallen out of the market at all.
It's all about timing and who needs what when; how much they are prepared to pay to get it etc.

Examples - GHPs and Kuwaharas didn't fetch much a few years back. Suddenly a couple of nice builds appear and people decide they want one too. The prices go up. Peopel used to hit anything PK or Hutch but they are pretty common builds now days so they don't always command such high prices.
Even in OS BMX there are trends.
QuicksilverBMX
I agree with Andy, something is worth what someone is willing to pay. I noticed that one of Anthony bikes got snapped up at the BIN price of $1350 or something like that. There is still one or two bikes out there i'd pay ridiculous money for (if I had it )

I hoping that after the bike show here there will be a few more collectors over here!
AndyDiamond
Generally I try to steer clear of ebay.

To get the good stuff at better prices it's best to form good relationships with other collectors (worldwide).
That way you'll more than likely find what you need and work out a fair price/trade etc.

And, you make new friends - awwwwww.

I wish that i could be at the Knox get together again this year to catch up with all of you guys

nice stuff scottie my friend!! I wish my spare room looked like that. we'll miss you at the gathering, it's nice having you friendly Queenslanders out here.
waza007
I agree with Quicksilver and Andy, there are ups and down on ebay. If you were looking to buy for investment and resale well who knows. If you collect cos you like collecting and enjoy OS bmx's. If you look at trends, why did a used mongoose frame and forks in Oz go way higher than a NOS one in USA the same week and why did Campy Graphites sell for $1760USD only 3 weeks ago. Wait for the frenzy when rockford get closer again. Those of us that collect cos we love it, will always collect regardless. Ive been collecting VBMX's for 18 years and only in the last two did i even find others who have the same intrests. 401 flights for $102AU and used Dx cranks for over $400AU go figure, just the luck of the draw. There will always be people that come and go in any hobby. The core guys are in it cos they love it and always have and always will.

as you blokes will know i only started collecting about 2 months ago after some talk on a car forum lit a flame. i've been quite surprised at some prices as in high and low but the real killer tends to be postage costs due to relevant parts not being freely available or advertised in Australia. the greatest surprise has been the amount of NOS available from England, especially small components like seats, headset locks, cranksets etc.
interesting to read that the DX cranks on my recently aquired redline mx2 are fairly desirable. not by me though as they were not part of my scene BITD. so i guess it's horses for courses when looking for the parts each individual wants. the tough bit is wanting things no-one else wants and so keep the prices lower, which is ultimately true of every collecting hobby.
mind you OS bmx collecting in my mind, is for self gratifacation rather than investment.
Mattblack
Waza the Graphite's went for 1780.99 US lol

Ebay is a good thing sometimes but all it takes is someone else interested in what you want and that drivers the $$$$ up. Then you get 3 people and up it goes and so on and so on. If you want something and you have the $$$$ you can get it.

But you can never beat the fun and excitement of finding a bike or part you always wanted.
Mattblack
Forgot to mention I will be down in Melbourne at Knot for the Vic titles?
Mr.BMX
I guess like all 'collectable' groups, it's always gonna be unpredictable, and people collect for different reasons, some are veterans, some are part-time, but at the end of the day it's all about the passion and joy of scoring that elusive part or *finally* completing a build for show or ride, keeping the memories alive.

I'm not sure if oldschool is a solid "investment" so i'd hope people would be buying for sentimental reasons rather than monetry.
I know most of us won't get 1/4 back on our total outlay ;-)

I've seen the oldschool bubble inflate and shrink on many occasions, it'll keep doing that as new people join and oldies leave, but oldschool will keep living on, no matter what quantities it is.

The biggest challenge that stops our (Aussie) sales, is that most overseas bidders don't understand our dollar values, or fear the shipping costs, so they bid low or not at all.
For you sellers, i advise you to mention the shipping fees to USA & UK, and also provide these prices in THEIR currency, so they'll be able to comprehend what they would be really paying and if the can afford it.

$1000aud looks a lot more than $750us or 350gbp doesnt it?

Hope that helps ;-)
Mr.BMX
Seeya at the VIC titles MB.
OZZYBMX
# 1 - noone is ever going to retire on their BMX collection !

# 2 - if you want to invest in something ...BUY A HOUSE OR PAINTING OR SOMETHING !

#3 - HOWARD , the only reason you think the bottom has dropped out of the market was because IT WAS V8'S BIKES , anyones else's sell at a great price

#4 - eBay ...swings and roundabouts .... its a lottery , noone wants a set of graphites this week , next week theres is 6 guys getting to the graphite stage of their builds ..BANG ! a set goes for crazy prices !
OZZYBMX

ABSOLUTELY MB !!! i got shafted a few times at the start on BMX deals ... next thing i crack onto a wife of a guy who she has his old BMX in the garage (but knows its worth money) so she sells me a PERFECT 84 quad with LGs (few scratches NO dents)for $180us and posts it for $55 ...cost me approx $300au to get that baby here .

to the US guys that might not sound too good but HERE in OZ thats a DONE DEAL !!! $300 is nothing for that level of OS !!
Mr.BMX
Shhhh, don't tell anyone ;-)
OZZYBMX
to anyone here ... that obviously knows , ginny sells streetbeat F&F for $30 .... thats crazy , imagine living in the us and getting them for that price ! $40au !

i bought 8 of them and the shipping was more than the frames !!!!!

i sold 6 of them which paid for the complete build of a couple of my bikes ...... on the other hand , try get something chromed in the US ... its nearly cheaper to send it here to oz , get it chromed and send it back !!!

yeah i absolutely know its expensive for us guys here to buy US bits but if we want to sell them again its also pay day ... but if you but in the first place its to keep .

BTW i got a full set of red DC MX brakes from a member here last week for $100 , thats half the price from vertego in the uk (fatherland) ! he had a full RED kit for a showbike , nos red pro nek , seat clamp , crank , kashimax , everything ..... but mine are riders , $250us for a nos pro neck is outta the question for me anyway .
OZZYBMX
i have just spent the last 2 hours sewing up 1 pat pend ACS Z to one of my new black hi flange dx hubs , i thought i would get the 2 of them done but no chance !!!! when knitting Z's if 1 spoke pings SH!T !!! man does that wheel pop outta shape .

the front wheel is stright as a die !!! the back wheel will be tomorrow , then they get fitted to my blue PK .

the wheels on my quad are pro drilled 7X as pro class wheels with sealed suzue , it took me less than 1 1/2 to do both of them ..... frekkin hi flange !!!!
KOSY-MOTO

Yep. It never ends.
Mark, that frame's dropouts also look like Vector dropouts. Too bad companies don't copy each others designs hey? That'd never happen....

happy bday coast, hope you had a good day.
how much do you reckon you'll be asking for that FST?
v8ute
hey OZZY

go f-uck yourself you peice of s-hit, whats with the comment about my bikes, you are an absolute idiot, just ask half the people here, you have been here 5 minutes and think that you are a superstar, show me some of your masterpeices f-uckbag, or are they all b-ull****.
howard is right dude, the market is slipping, it has its moments, there is right and wrong times of year to buy and sell but you wouldnt know that cos your head is in your boyfriends ***, next time you are in melbourne bud look me up, heaps of guys down here know where to find me, trust me stupid, i wont hide from ya.
i also hear that you had a shot at the OM, not cool dude, how would you like a good kickin when you are down f-uck head.
v8ute
oh sorry ozzy, i remember that you bought 12 PK, s and 13 of them got lost in the post
v8ute
you call yourself a collector ozzy, you are nothing but an idiot that has jumped onto a moving train, your stop is just around the bend dude, i have seen plenty of guys around here just like you, they come and go.
and i bet you didnt even ride, did you ever get on a track ozzy?
i bet you were some world champion in your backyard against your 3 year old sister or something, you are a disgrace dude, and change your name, you aint an aussie, just a homeless refugee mofo
bullyhotrod86jh
v8 dude, i don't think he was having a go at your bikes, i think he was just making a joke, atleast thats how i saw it, i hope he was, unless theres something i'm missing.
The market timing thing is true, and you could, most likely semi track it, think about theirs christmas, theirs rockfords, good chance if you say plotted a bunch of sales, you'd see a semi trend. With random fluxuations throughout the year, maybe a couple big hitters might have a birthday for a child, one might have a fall, one might have something ellse go wrong, e.g. car crash whatever. This would be especially noticable,if it was just of australian ebay, with the small comunity within oz, 3-4 big hitters out of action, would show drops, and as was said as people get to stages in their builds.
just my 2 cents.

now that thats of my chest, i hear you had a birthday glenno.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLENNO!!!!!

hope to see some familiar faces next week at knox, i might mosey on down and say g,day

i might even bring some of my over priced bikes that nobody wants, lol
i could even have some nice bits up for grabs too
v8ute
very true bully, very true

i know he wasnt having a shot at my bikes, it was a shot at me, totally uncalled for by this 2 bit wannabe, he really is a nobody
v8ute
for a young dude bully, you behave better than some of us old guys, me included, lol

some of my bikes had some big pricetags on them because of the quality of the bikes, if people stood back and worked out what a bike would actually cost to build i would sell 10 a day but most people only look at the pricetag and say geez that aint cheap.
not to mention the 3000 emails i had about shipping and other stuff then nobody even bids.
70 people watching my skyway, why watch if you dont want to buy, is ebay the new buyers guide to see what bikes are worth.
if my skyway had sold for 1500, would every skyway for the next 6 months be worth that much, even with average parts.
i am not trying to get rich on these bikes, i am not even going to break even. it just annoys me when people waste my time.
i had numerous emails from people that sounded very interested and no bids.
had offers for framesets so i split them up for less than they offered and they still didnt bid.
this is what i mean, i got nailed by 7683nino, he bought my redline and wanted me to wait till near christmas for payment, so he got a negative and unfortunatley so did i.
this is what i mean, alot of guys want the good stuff and cant afford it, the mortgage, the 3 kids, the credit card, just not anymore money left to play with but they still persist in wasting my time.

i had a guy offer me peanuts for the complete skyway, it wouldnt have even bought the wheels, why bother, surely he thought i would say no, absolute idiots.
