For a metric century....whats generally the average pace?

Will 18-20mph cut it?
pjbaz
I've never done one but I think 18-20 is plenty fine.

I did 42 on a Monday night club ride last year and we averaged about 17. I was toward the back but it felt good and I didn't hold anyone up so that's always good.

Man, I haven't ridden an organized century is a LONG time. I need to get out there again... My personal best is 4:45/100 miles, solo, no aerobar. It was late in the year after the racing season. Fun stuff.

18/20 will cut it... It all depends how long you want to be out there on the bike. You can do the math... If you've been riding up to this point, you should have a pretty good indication of how fast a speed you can maintain. Advice: KEEP THE REST STOPS SHORT, or skip them completely and don't stop. carry gel/food w/ you and only stop for water if you need it. 62 miles isn't that long of a ride really...It goes by fast.

Good luck.

Yeah I did 58 miles today and was like crap, that's not that far away from 62, at the same time, I don't know if I could have gone any farther. I was done...I just wish I knew what time I started, so I could figure out speed. Gel as in like...Icy hot or what?

No, he means Gel food. instant fuel...

We just did one, 24 riders, double pacelines, two minute pulls, and averaged 23 mph. This was on desolate farm roads with a paceline-savvy group, otherwise 18-20 would have been expected.

What is the best way to improve your spin speed?
