Was just tightening down my rear axle skewer (shimano) and of course I did it too tight and the thing snapped in half. Where can I find a cheap replacement without a loss in performance?

LBS, Performance, PricePoint, Speedgoat, etc., etc.

What wheelset are you riding? Skewers aren't too expensive, especially if you just want a skewer. Nice light ones are only about 30-50 for the set.

Shimano 105
Some Mavic rims
Michelin tires
That's about all I really know. I am just reading what it says. I know nothing about road bikes.

Skewers are interchangable from one set of wheels to another.

If you don't care about having the lightest and best (which wouldn't make sense if you don't really know too much about your bike but just like to ride...i.e. You're not a weight weenie-LOL) then pop into the bike shop and ask about getting a new skewer.

I can't imagine it would be more than $8-10

Amazing thanks.

Oh yeah, the basic rule of thumb when tightening them down is to make them snug enough to leave an imprint in the palm of your hand...but not so tight as you have to really force them closed.

Ask the guys at the bike shop to show you the proper tension.

What bike are you riding? I have several road bikes but my "real" bike is a 2004 Lemond Zurich with full Ultegra and Velomax Orion II wheelset.
