I'm seriously thinking of getting one and wanted opinions.

It's one of the more mellow ones, big back wheel, little front (I'll get the model name and pic this weekend, hopefully). My local shop has one and there's just something about it which makes me think I'd enjoy it.

What do you think / know about them?

I have Trek R200 that I bought last year. Look it up online, they don't make it anymore. It has 2 rear cogsets so it has like 40 gears. I haven't ridden it yet because it needs the gears adjusted and I stink and derailers. I just don't have the time to deal with it since I have so many other bikes. If you are at all interested in buying it let me know.

They do look like fun though! And Fast!!!

Also, try these guys: http://www.actionbent.com/

I've read a lot of good things about them. They import bikes from China at a very good price. You need to assemble it but it sounds easy. I almost bought one.

Here's the one I'm thinking about (it has the T bar, like the guy in the picture).

Not sure how it will handle down the 1st straight at Rockford with the drop off and all.

That model is a chill-mobile. Have you looked at the various shapes? That bike is made for comfort and long rides. The Trek R200 has quick handling since the front wheel is actually under you. The ones with normal handle bars are easier to ride and steer, while the ones with the bars underneath are harder to ride but very comfortable with your arms relaxed by your side. Lots of choices. It will be hard to try one. Most shops don't carry them and its not the kind of thing you can test ride. You are almost gauranteed to drop it the first time out until you get used to it.

those bikes are everywhere in eugene.

maybe it is just me but when you pedal up next to one of those things do you ever want to just give em a little push with your foot and see if they tip over?

In-line wheelchair...
TOMMY2WHEEL
I wouldn't mind one if it came with a cup holder

Anyways Elvis, those are nice and i have thought about having one for a real long time. How about doctoring one up with some cool BMX parts?
Paul Springer
I had one of these for a while when I had back problems and still wanted to ride.

I got a lot of funny looks but found it to be pretty fast & efficient. It was horrible on the triple step up jumps and I had a hard time getting it to manual.
Here is a cool recumbent site that I used to get parts from. Good luck and enjoy...

lol @ x-it, tommy and paul. they look like lazyboys on wheels to me. pass the remote. seriously though, do you not worry about visibility on those?

Elvis,

I sell a lot of Giant Revives. It's a semi - recumbent. Not as performance oriented as the Rans, but still a mighty cool rig. Check 'em out HERE

Chainwheel in Little Rock would be the closest place to check one out. They're very solid guys.

Chainwheel, yeah, a good friend of mine is a manager there. He was telling me about the RANS semi-recumbent and how much he likes them.

To be honest, now that I've put down the crack pipe, I'm kind of leaning away from a 'bent.

I once saw a guy in Moab do the downhill course on a recumbent. I don't know if he did any of the drops, but I did see him get off the lift and start for the finish and again down at the bottom.

They look like fun and with some fairings they can go fast. http://www.recumbents.com/WISIL/racing2004...04_pictures.htm

Recumbants are also speed record holders:
