I was talking to a friend of mine at lunch and he had mentioned to be that he had run across a really nice road bike for sale at a local sports resale shop. Anyhow, we head over there and its a Lemond road bike (If I had to guess its early 2000's). The thing I found most appealing about it was it is set up with Campy components (Hubs and Cranks), carbon forks, Just really nice stuff. I
m not really a road bike guy but I do enjoy zipping around the hood every now and then. Anyhow the price on it was 800 bucks. Is this a good deal?

Campy has different levels of stuff, so it would be helpful to know what type they are. Record is their top of the line, then Chorus, then I think Centaur. There are some others I can't think of. But if the bike is in good shape, it sounds like it's a good deal no matter which level of components. You'll want to take a good look at the carbon fork. If it's been crashed, it may need a new fork. Make sure the bike fits you also.

LeMond bikes are quite good; their high end bikes are comparable in quality to anything out there. Whether the bike you're looking at is a great, good, or average deal depends on the particular model of LeMond frameset and Campy components. If the components are Campy Record or Chorus, then it's almost certainly a great deal. If Centaur or Veloce (or Daytona) it may be a good deal. You might want to search the particular model on ebay to see what other folks are trying to get for it. However, the most important thing is whether it fits you. It might be a great deal, but it won't really matter if it's a 59 cm frame and you should be riding a 53 cm.

If you're just thinking about a road bike to ride occasionally and don't expect to get passionate about it, then $800 at your local bike shop will get you a good, new bike that you can be certain will fit you appropriately. On the other hand, I'm a firm believer of getting the highest quality bike you can afford; you just may get the road cycling bug big time! It's a great sport and one you can enjoy for a lifetime.

A great source of info and reviews of road bikes & components can be found at: http://www.roadbikereview.com/

Good luck to you!

If it fits and wheels are in good shape, I'd say go for it.

Congrats! That's a nice rig; I'd say you got your money's worth. Enjoy getting fit and fast, just watch out for the idiots and rednecks who can't stand to share the road with 2-wheelers.
