Does anybody know if the CR24I came in colors? The chrome on mine isn't all that great and was thinking of getting it powdered. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No colors brother chrome only would be cool to see a half chrome and half painted setup

I don't remember if it is a pre or post Gt era Auburn but I am thinking it is a pre-Gt era frame because it has no serial. I currently have it taken apart because I am gonna get it powder coated green like it originally was. Only changes I am making as far as parts go is different pedals, GT cranks, Auburn forks, and maybe different tires. I might need another set of Auburn bars because they have been slightly cut down. I want a 96 Auburn CR20RX with a threadless headset. I want more Auburns...

I can't say for 100% sure, but I believe if an Auburn has the toptube bend BEFORE the seat tube it is before GT took over the company.

Jan 3 2007, 09:18 PM
I am not sure exactly how the whole GT timeline goes i always thought Gt owned Auburn from day one. I guess you would only know by having back issues of Bmx action or BMX plus. I want a cr20Rx also. I wish i could post my pictures of my auburns but for some reason i cant post pictures here the browser wont let me

I've got a 92 CR20RX with the bend before the seat tube. It must have been 93-94 when they changed it because my 94 CR20RX is bent after the seat tube. Auburn started as an independent company but always used GT components. I think they sold out to GT in 90 or 91.

Rich, your Auburn is either a 93 or your workslink was added later. I'm not exactly sure but I don't think the aluminum workslink came out until 94 and the front of yours is older than 94.
It might just be the picture but the workslink looks to be aluminum. Is it?
LeadSled1
Jan 4 2007, 08:39 AM
The aluminum works link came out in early 91. I had one in late 90 from the bike dealers show in Atlantic City, NJ. Back when I had connections. That same works link is in the picture I posted with my brother riding the bike on page 1. It was pre-production.

in the late '80s/early '90s our shop was in good with GT and some of the guys (random assortment of GT/auburn/robinson/powerlite riders) would come up to hang out the week of Rockford every year and stay at one of our guy's house. this was a jersey given to me by the original Auburn squad of TC, Big E and, i think, Danny Milwee.

Could those of you with unstamped Auburn forks tell me what headset to use with the forks? I need to know what headset will come with the proper size inner bearing race that fits at the bottom of the steer tube. The ones for my Diamondback forks are slightly bigger.

Cool. I went to a local bike shop/lawn mower shop and found a GT Pro Series headset made by FSA. It came with the 26.4 and 27.0 fork crown races. Solved my biggest dilema with the Auburn. Now I need to get me a 175mm Profile GT crank and to get my bike recoated! Pics below. I included my naked Auburn and a chrome USA Hutch Trickstar to make it Auburn thread and VBMX worthy.

Rich -
Glad someone picked up that headset finally. It kept calling my name. Just last year, I picked up two NOS red Tange headsets from there a 7c blue 24" rim. All went to Reilley's collection. Can't wait to see it finished. That fork going to work out for you?

Does anyone here know what color matches the Green auburns as close as possible? Possibl color codes? Thanks.
Sidehack Guy, you know what shop I got that at? lol. At that same shop they have threaded forks made by Bulletproof(?) And they look pretty sturdy. Also another set of forks that have threads in them for mounting screw on pegs much like Haro forks.

Kawasaki green is a pretty close color match as far as I can tell.

rich when i had my flights and blast pars powdered, the powdercoater (primo customs in H.B. CA) was able to match the green. its not a custom color but most shops don't stock it. i forget the code though. i'll see if i can dig up my reciept to see if its on there

I would appreciate it very much if you could find that color code for me. Thanks! I have been putting off getting it powder coated because I don't want a color that doesn't match the original.

wooo hooo.. my old one is on its way home.....
as far as i know it is a complete.... but not auburn complete
it has been hanging in my aunts garage for 20 years....
my cuz told me it had 3 piece cranks.... decent looking brakes... mongoose forks
odddyyyysee seat post (dang thats` a hard word to spell.. lol) quick release clamp etc..
he said it had cheap looking grips and bars on it.....
who knows.... hopefully i will by the end of the week
Im sure i helped my cuz build it.. so i dont think i would have used the cheapest parts, even back in the day
So depending on the parts on it... most of my current Auburn will be disassembled and probably available..
most likely...
F/F crbars stem brakes
im all excited..
