Usually post in the old school section but over the weekend I scored a Balance cruiser at a swapmeet. It's an aluminum frame called an xs24? Fades from purple to natural finish, 1 inch threaded forks but with v brake mounts. Anyone have one of these? Frame looks decent, is it? Had new school 2 bolt flite cranks on it so I couldn't pass it up for a whopping $34!! Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for the pic, that's the one. Isn't Balance a mountain bike company? I just never heard of them before. Any info would be great.

balance was a mtb company that tryed to get into bmx. they used to sponsor John Purse.... they were hot for about 2 seasons but the geometry of their 20"-ers were wierd they had real long back ends and high bottem brackets. they came at a time when the big debate was aluminum or chro-moly for frame material, they were a bit too soon on the aluminum front. first batch was popular red/to aluminum fade, then purple to aluminum then blue to aluminum... maybe they made it 3 seasons.

John used to file his dropouts deeper to shorten the back end. Just a bit of trivia I thought folks would appreciate.

I thought Harry leary started the company & or designed the frames for BMX . The '94 models were purple fade , then the '95s were red fade , followed by the blue fade in '96 . I ordered my red '95 from my LBS but they got a purple '94 so they sent it back for the red '95 . I had Profile 185 box's & Crupi wheels & raced that for a few months 'till someone stole it out of my garage . I then bought a green Elf cruiser & was happy W/ that ,but the Balance was lighter & I thought it rode better . Unfortunatly these frames came at a time when BMX technology was in its transitional phase . I know one of these days I'll build one up again .........:-(

I have a Red cruiser now with Pro forx on it. I actually drilled a hole as far up above the rear dropouts as would fit, ovalized them a little to allow for chain tension, and ran bullseye hub in rear two bolt them on. Did that to try and effectively lower the bottom bracket and slow the steering but still didn't like it so I went back to my RRS.

i've got a '94 balance mtb that i put bmx bars on seven or 8 years ago. it was always a slow turning bike but fairly easy to ride long wheelies on. it is a green fade. I don't believe balance exists as a company anymore..
