that's my guess, too. 1987, built by ANLUN, i'd say.

just thought of it!!!! Haro, but now stamps...
Pete Q
Jul 31 2006, 05:49 AM
The dropouts look EXACTLY like haro's

But, the serial # is on the BB and no gusset from the headtube to the downtube.
Don't know if this helps.... but it has Powerlite, Robinson and GT stickers on it.

I just checked out some bikes in the museum and it actualy looks like a Kuwahara laserlite, but I was looking at a complete bike not a frame, The forks do look like the Kuwahara.
Pete Q
Jul 31 2006, 01:55 PM
I didn't think the kuwahara forks have that extra 'angle' in the dropouts...
steef
Jul 31 2006, 03:02 PM
Remember, the forks could have been changed from the originals. It's been known to happen.

Jul 31 2006, 03:47 PM
take the forks off and see if they are stamped...
Pete Q

Aug 1 2006, 07:12 AM
alright then! I'll just go get me some 1987 Kuwahara decals, slap them on, and throw it up on ebay!
Or maybe have some KuwaDiamondPredatRobinHaro decals made. That'd look nice.

Not sure if its a Kuwahara, the serial number is really weird there. It should start with a T or K than a number like 2,3,4 or so and than an alphabet than 5 more numbers if I am correct.
Also that drop out is not looking Kuwahara to me, close but not close enough. I don't think its a Kuwahara, especially a LaserLite, sorry
Check out the open ends of the tubes welded to the dropouts, that welding is not that great too. Here are some LaserLite dropouts for you, KZ84 on left and KZ83 on right, thanks

Ahhh, I see.. thanks Jamie!
I can rule that out...
Someone mentioned DiamondBack...
What about Powerlite? Were they a functional company in '87?
Is a Schwinn totally out of the question?
Robinson?

Could be just a frame from the Taiwanese company that made the Haros and had some extra dropouts that they tossed on someone else's design.
Pete Q
Aug 1 2006, 12:28 PM
That might make sense, but let me tell you where/how/who I got it from...
I got it from craigslist, the other parts were decent (Tuff Neck stem, GT Pro Series bars, MKS pedals, CMC rims, Sugino cranks. This lady was selling it because her son was going to college. She told me he had built it up and swapped parts out all the time, etc.. Now, this COULD be a crap frame that this kid just added good parts when he was able to buy them. OR it could actually be something decent. The lady seemed to think it was high quality.... Not that she would know anything... but I'm assuming she probably had heard her son say once or twice at least what brand bike he had. I dunno...
I bought it for the Tuff Neck

Nope, not me. I did email that guy, though. Maybe I can unload some stuff on him if he ever replies.
I'm feeling like it's time for a reduction in stuff.
I rember seeing that byke on craigslist and spotted the GT bars right away. I think you should turn it into a Ratbyke for the September BBQ. I've got some nice Ratty parts if you don't.
Pete Q
Aug 1 2006, 01:51 PM
I already have 2 possible Rat-bikes for the BBQ AND I just built one up and donated it to Express Bike Shop in St. Paul. I can't get rid of my stuff fast enough!

Did Univega make 20"ers?

The forks are cycle pro. I've got a pair just like them. As soon as I get my camera back I will take a pic and post it. I could be wrong though. It wouldnt be the first or last time either..
steef
Aug 1 2006, 03:18 PM
I used to have a chrome Univega 24", so it's quite possible they made a 20" in chrome, too. I'm pretty sure my dropouts were different than those.

Here's a set of cycle pro forks

Not sure what 'era' these are, gotta be older than 87.
Pete Q
Aug 1 2006, 05:45 PM
Here's one that's on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/BMX-CYCLE-PRO-BONZAI-F...1QQcmdZViewItemIt has a thicker BB shell, also if all Cycle Pros were made by Tange, the serial # would start with a 'T'.... just going by what the auction says...
Ah man, this sucks!
I swear Pete, you gotta be king of the Mystery frame.

the "87" is the year built. that, and the dropouts say "ANLUN" to me. ANLUN was the taiwanese company who was building kuwaharas by 1987, as well as redline haro general and a few others.
the kuwi dropouts in that other pic, as well as the serial number style that included letters are from japanese-made kuwis.

I thought maybe I would bump this again to see if there's any noobs out there with keen eyes.
Anyone?
