Bob Scerbo's old Stricker, being slowly brought back to the way he had it. Got the frame, fork and cranks/sprocket from Bob.

And my Widowmaker.

And my Holmes (with a Menstrual/Stupid fork/stem) which I ended up disassembling (and selling the frame).

Here's another pic of my Widowmaker. This time in action at a non-sanctioned race last weekend. It's had a couple of parts changes - Red D/C seat clamp & a new school Metal sprocket. It still has no brakes though!

ahaha, i broke 2 sets of P.A. cranks... snapped em where the pedal welded to the upper part of the arm. good idea... i think they're called odyssey's now and they're heat treated!!!

PIERCED. The first sets were pierced at the top, not welded. They costed waaaay too much to turn a $. So he went the welded route, resulting in your situation. Then after warranteeing the second style down to nothing he gave up on cranks. the pierced ones are industructable.

back in the day i think boss cranks were a better bet. eventhough boss made em for s&m, i never heard anyone complain about breaking a set.
shlocal002
Aug 28 2006, 04:37 PM
i agree. the bosses had better chrome and were lighter too.
production

the original/prototypes were only pierced at the pedal boss, and used by keith treanor circa '93.

I think I might have the origional cranks on my white Keith Treanor model in the first pic in this thread b/c they are not pierced at the top. I will try to post pics later.
WV, i'm thinking they're boss cranks. from what i can see, the pedal bosses aren't pierced

I am thinking that also I bought them on ebay listed as prince alberts but now that I think about it they look nothing like the ones in the picture. when I get home tonight I am going to have to check those out and post a pic. this really sucks because I paid up to get those for my menstrual cycle.

I have what appers to be a S&M Call Girl/Warpig...but did S&M ever use a "MADE IN USA" stamp instead of their logo?
wv, they look like boss to me.... black in the auction, i see you cleaned em up. probably painted black for a street bike and were passed along as pa's.
i dunno if its the photo res, but in the auction pic the spindle splines look profile. pa's had 16 splines and boss spindles similar, if not the same....

hmm by the way i was wondering if anybody might hve an S&M padset. if you don't have a full set e.g. top tube and crossbar pad, i'd still be interested, also can anyone tell me what i might be looking at for it? I just havn't seen a set for sale, always on the bikes. also if possible one of those S&M seats maybe.
like the toptube pad above or the pads on this one that was posted earlier.

"i dunno if its the photo res, but in the auction pic the spindle splines look profile. pa's had 16 splines and boss spindles similar, if not the same...."
S&M cranks went through some changes over the years. Originally they used a boss spindle (that's who they outsourced to make the cranks), but Chris kept getting complaints from customers about the cranks working themselves loose after some use. They then changed to a profile spindle before discontinuing them altogether.
so you're saying wv's cranks are late model pa's w/ a 48 spline spindle and no pierced ends?

The picture you have cw are the stronger (older) of the two. those were the pierced ones. the picture above were the more breakable welded type.

I had the same Prince Alberts that WVBMXER showed. Mine were red 175's but the left arm stripped from the spindle. Common problem with those cranks...

yeah the guy I bought those from said they were red when he bought them
you know, i just never caught pa's in their later years. never knew they were non pierced and tapered. never knew they used a 48 spline spindle at the end. something new everyday.
an arm stripping from the spindle means those spindles werent heat treated too well.
the pierced ones may be strong compared to the later versions, but they werent indesructable, trust me.

Anyone have a red, shafted redneck that they would sell? been trying to find one for awhile. Also, the wording on some of the crank descriptions make it sound like the pierced cranks weren't welded. They were all welded, some were pierced and some weren't. I'm curious as to what type of spindle the early ones had, was that a boss type or a fabweld created origional?
