Full Version: Info on this Power-Lite JR.?? Anyone?

I bought this junior sized PowerLite (in need of some serious TLC) for $117 bucks to teach my son to ride... about what I'd pay for a bike Target or something. He's too small to even sit on it, so I decided to clean it up... and sand... and polish... decal... pad... I think it cleaned up pretty nice...

Anybody know the vintage or ANY info about this bike? 80's, 90's 00's?? pre-GT? post-GT? How to decipher PL serial #s?

Aluminum frame. Serial number (outside left rear dropout) is 02952798 JR. The old decals were mostly missing... bar and fork decals had red checks next to logo. The brake hole in the fork is pretty mangled and might have been self-drilled.

Also, what should I do for a number plate on these type bars? Were these bikes pre-built or custom?

I got nothing from Vintage Talk forum.. maybe this is the right spot?

Sun rims / Crupi flip flops / rear rainbow comp III / dk mini stem / Uni mini seat / Black widow crank & pedals. I added NOS Dia Compe red lever, NOS white cable, NOS AME Tris (late logo), & gold Z chain. I also added later model decals and unknown vintage pads. 15lbs 15oz (sans pads).

sheesh, that's pretty. I don't know the vintages on Powerlites, but my advice is let the kid grow.

I let go of a high-end Jr that took years to build, not knowing I'd have a little girl enter my life that just might like to race someday.

Might never get over it.

oh yeah, if I'm reading the ser# right, I'd say it was made in Feb 1995.

Again, very sweet bike. The work and effort you put in shines through.

The frame you have is indeed 1995. The roud decal with red/white checks is 80's not appropriate for that bike. Now the bars could be 80's issue as the jr's had a cross bar on some models back then up to 2000 when they stopped production.

The bike you have is well worth saving and with the breakdown of parts you really made out well.

The decals you chose are right for the bike and the model is actually called a P47 Thunderboldt. Pads are from the mid 90's so right in there for your build.

Looks really nice with the old parts, I have a 97 I built for my son in yellow with old parts as well, I used old Powerlite decals just for the sake of using some I had from the 80's.

Nice find and if you ever get rid of it....I collect Powerlites.

Also can anyone point me to some frame decals for this?
