Hey all,
I got back into BMX in the early 90s for a short period after a bit of an absence. Anyhow back in 92 i bought a cheap bottom of the line Mongoose Expert Comp 92 model which actually served me very well for over a year. It was an affordable but nice agile light weight race BMX especially for the price. Anyhow after 94 i kinda left BMX for a while & didn't come back untill 2003 & when i did i was a bit shocked cause everything had changed BIGTIME. The bikes were not even close to being light weight anymore & then i started discovering things like the forks being non threaded etc etc. It was all a bit of a shock to the system. To be honest i still don't think i've adjusted to the change very well because i can't find even one bike i'm happy with or that i like that's currently being produced. I mean yeah it's nice to have a headset that doesn't come loose all the time, but wtf? After a lot of looking around on the net & in shops for a couple of years, the closest thing to the old light weight BMX race bikes from the early 90s that i know of (judging by weight in the descriptions & photos) is a DK Fury & i know Redline are still making race BMXs that are reasonably light weight with frames that still resemble the traditional BMX geometry. If anyone else knows some others that are really light weight race BMXs with frames that still have the traditional BMX geometry, let me know & give some suggestions, cause as far as i'm concerned i'm a newbie all over again & pretty lost & i can't find one suitable bike among all the tanks out there nowadays. Also it's hard to to find an old school bike in almost new condition so a brand new one is the better option, plus i like the non threaded headsets that don't come loose. Anyhow another reason why i posted this is also because i've tried really hard through internet searches to find photos of the old Mongoose Expert Comp 92 i used to own but when ever i Google it or even do eBay searches all i get is nothing or irrelevant crap & current Mongoose bikes. I've tried different wording combos & everything i can think of, but no luck what so ever. So if anyone has any photos of that model, i'd love to see them just for old times sake, so post em up i'd really appreciate them. I remember i had the one with the black frame & my best friend had the exact same bike with a chrome frame, ahhh those were the days

This is off ebay from a few weeks ago-not sure of the year.

One of my LBS's still has a new one of those bikes above still hanging from the ceiling. He wants just under $500.00 USD for it. He actually has two-I think one is a Comp and one is a Comp Pro. Both are chrome. If you are interested let me know-I'd be happy to package it up & ship it to you.

That's not the exact model i owned, i'd know the bike the second i see it just by the decals themselves. I'm not sure exactly what year that one in the photo is, but i remember back when i owned mine, Mongoose had a big arched M in the logo kinda like a Mcdonald's logo except one of the lines in the M was longer than the rest with sort of a tick in it. It had this on the frame decals & the decals were fluro colours. Does that make any sense or sound familiar? Haven't seen Mongoose use that logo before or since then & they only did it for a short period. Also another distintive feature that i remember was the Velo seat with the rubber insert in the middle of it that gripped like no tomorrow & was really comfortable. Never had a seat on a bike since then that's been as good, comfortable & practical all in one. If i could find the exact model Expert Comp i used to own in reasonable condition i'd buy it for sure. I've got a $1000 AU 2003 model bike just sitting around that i'm not satisfied with & don't really like, i'd sell it lightning fast to get my hands on my old bike again. The one in the photo does look pretty similar though. Hey Motor City Mongoose is the one you speak of a 92 model? Can you get me a photo? I might be interested if it's the one i'm after. Just out of curiosity is your user name a reference to Ted Nugent?

Dave, the ones my LBS have are like the one pictured above. Not sure what exact year they are, but I did think they were mid to late `90's, not early `90's. I believe the graphics you are speaking of were used just before the ones above. The generic Mongoose graphics themselves are usually available on ebay, but they are not model specific and they are probably repops.

By the way, I'm really Ted Nugent in disguise......

Just kidding-I'm from Dearborn, MI, a suburb of Detroit, which is the Motor City (at least until Tokyo takes that over too).

The lightest bike i have is a GT Interceptor from about 89 or 90, but unfortunatly it's just the frame & also has no decals. I wacked it together with some crappy parts (except for the frame & tuffs) back in 2003 just to give it a bit of test run. Here's some photos of me bunny hopping over an upright bit of wood with my GT. This bike was so light wait it made bunny hopping over the top tube of the frame on another bike a total breeze. I'd never try it on a current model bike though. Never tried to add a photo so lets hope this works.
