The Dollmaker
One of a kind, no doubt!
I FINALLY got the issue with his early four page interview from '88. Totally stoked. I'll post some clips from the interview when I get a chance.

littlegear, I believe Todd Lyons said a while back that he is doing pretty good for himself, still in CA working at a metal fabrication or welding place? Something like that.
92gli, Great story! I remember in the very early 90's, finally being able to go to Bensalem, it was like S&M/The Peddlar Bike Shop country! I was so blown away because S&M was totally unheard of where I was living in PA. I HAD to get my Dirtbike from the Peddlar cause that was Dave Clymer's sponsor! Unfortunately in 89 or 90, Dave was already on the west coast I believe.
And you are right on, I believe he was picked up by TNT in late 87 or early 88, maybe stayed a year or so until he went to THE team.
Not many guys I would still be totally blown away to get their autograph, but Dave Clymer is definitely one of them.

Here's a little tid-bit from the interview:
On the Pro's
BMXA: What do you think of the big name pros trying to intimidate you?
Dave:It's their problem. I know they know I'm there. I tell 'em like it is...how I feel. If they don't like it, they'll learn.
BMXA: Who don't you get along with?
Dave: Ahhhhhh lot of 'em! I made a lot of enemies up in Washington. Everybody's had disagreements with me at one time or another. Greg Hill doesn't really like me right now. At Washington, the track was real skinny and muddy and during a semi, I was in fifth and I dove under everybody. I'm positive I didn't hit him- I hit Blaser. It was a little reckless but it wasn't nuthin' that would've been done by anybody else. I bumped Blaser and Greg fell and somehow they said I t-boned him.
I was riding back to the pits and all of a sudden Greg came up to me and pointed to the back of my plate(it has a Fear sticker that reads "I don't care about you, etc.") and he goes, "I don't care about your sticker." I said, "Well it ain't exactly a freeway out there. There's not too much room." And he gave me a big ol' long speech.
Then Ronnie-he's...I don't know what's his problem. The pre-race that Friday, it was him and I in the main and the track was really soft and I got stuck a little bit, bumped him, and he went off the track. I ended up with second because after I hit him, someone else went by and Ronnie told me afterwards, "If you're gonna take me out, make sure you win." And I was like, "I didn't try to take you out- I got squirrelly.

I met Dave at an ABA national at Caol Canyon in like '90. Awesome dude, I always liked to watch him ride. I even bought a P.O.W shirt from TL at the race. LOL!!!! That was a crazy scene back then for sure.
BTW, I think he looks more like Ducky from the movie Pretty in Pink. hehehehehe....
Cepe Maes always had that look also.
