Full Version: Best All-Around Mid-School Rider?

In your opinion of course, who do you think the best all-around rider was in say the late 80's/early-mid 90's?

Right off the top of my head, Todd Lyons HAS to be at or near the top of the list for sure. Brian Foster as well but I believe in that time period he may have been concentrating a bit more on racing and didn't really explode onto the street and dirt jumping scene quite yet. Still near the top of the list though.

But I'd probably give the edge to Dave Clymer. I mean, he did dirt, street, ramps, AND was a contender in AA Pro at the races. I've always been an S&M fan so I may be a bit biased, but it makes for a good argument.

Did Fuzzy ever ride street? I know he was a fast racer and his dirt jumping skills goes without saying, but I can't remember him ever doing street.

Who do you think was the best?

DMC!!! i grew up around him. He's one of the best flatland guys ive seen thats not a dedicated flatland guy. ive seen him do some gaps on the street that were to big for everyone else and he was doing 360's over them. I dont have to mention ramp!!!

Splinter do you know Brian Belcher?
Dave Muggleston
I don't know if Colin Winkelmann ever raced or rode flatland but for dirt, street, ramps and stunts he was the best all-around rider ever.
khelagger
Jeff Crawn......the smoothest all around rider i ever saw.
cru jones 2
definatly agree about todd lyons and brian foster. i remember when lyons was on haro and backflips were just starting to get popular. at the nbl chrismas classics lyons busted out some big ones after hours durring the jumping contest, he ended up cracking is racing frame. i think that was the first time i saw a big air flip in person. he's also always been an awesome all around guy and great promotor for the sport. guys like him, robbie morales and most of the pro's riding for gt and its subsidiaries at the time were some of the greatest people that helped keep the sport alive and thriving in my opinion.

Props to Jeff Crawn

Well said, Cru.

And another vote for McCoy as well. No argument there. He could be grouped into the names that helped keep the sport going I'd say.

Rich Bartlett was actually a pretty well rounded rider. Ramps, street/dirt/ whatever. An honerable mention for sure.

Not too many guys raced and did everything well. Clymer was great but really sketchy too.

Along with the guys mentioned above, I think you have to include Dave Voelker. He always was and always will be a bad a/s/s.

Brian, Alan and Dave were all local riders here BITD. For such a small state we had a pretty good turnout of riders for the state series. I've posted this before but here are some of the names for the state series we had here back in the late 80s:
