hi guys, i'm fairly new to vintage so my apologys if this has been done before!
i really liked the race bikes thread & thought a similar one for Dirt/Jumping bikes would be cool

i'll start with a pic of my bike built in mid 90's (i'm not saying its the ultimate but i liked it at the time )

my Hoffman Taj

USA made Taj frame
Hoffman Superfork/stem combo
Peregrine Super Pros
Primo V-monsters
Profile Cranks
Original Shimano DX
Prfile Whippit chainring
KMC chain
cut down S&M Slam bars
Odi longneck grips
Peregrine bar ends
Tech 77 lever
AD990 with booster plate
Peregrine Monster collar twin bolt seatclamp
KHE post with slight layback & integral clamp
Mongoose Kevlar seat

and thats about it, heavy but strong & rides real nice

lets see em guys?
KastanKillector

yeah i had to search pretty hard to find a chrome one!
us oldschool guys like a bit of chrome
along with the 44/16 gearing & skinwall tyres
showtime
looks like i was the only one on here that went dirt jumping in the 90's

sorry i'm not offering any free stuff like the race bike thread, but don't be shy guys

Cool Taj. I'd still like to score a baby blue one someday. Here's my second-generation (?) S&M Holmes. I rode a Dirtbike in the mid-to-late '90s, but I definitely fit better on a Holmes.

1" S&M Holmes frame
1" S&M Menstrual Cycle stem/fork combo (threadless stem, threaded fork)
Chris King threaded headset
DK Team bars, factory Kawasaki green (cut down)
GT seatpost
Odyssey Robo Clamp
Bassano saddle
XS/Araya RBJ1 rear wheel
Peregrine Master front wheel
Comp III rear tire, Snafu front
Profile cranks
Standard M5 45t sprocket
Shimano DX pedals
Ame grips
Odyssey Evolver brake
Dia-Compe Tech 77 lever
KMC 410h chain

The rear end is SO long compared to my Fit, or even my old STAs. When I rode a Holmes, it was brakeless so I could slam it.

thats the stuff, true 90's style with cut down bars & a mag front wheel
nice bike, probably a lot lighter than mine too

an early s&m next generation dirtbike from 1997. i guess, it was supposed to be a dirt jumper, but that thing is so rediculously heavy that i never really managed to jump it. last time i put it on a scale, it was about 16,5 kg.

s&m next generation dirtbike
s&m pitchfork
s&m redneck
primo mustache bar (will put my s&m slam bar back on)
generix grips (will put my dk vice grips back on)
odyssey padset (still have the s&m padset)
generix 1pc crank (had profiles on there, but had problems with the chainwheel)
profile ripsaw chainwheel
kmc chain
gt dx style pedals (with replaceable pins)
primo gorilla cup and 'a-headest' on top
tektro lever (will put my bent tech77 lever back on)
ad990 u-brake
kool stop eagle klaw 2 brake pads
primo dirt monster tires (1.85 in the back and 2.2 in the front)
quando 10mm, 48h, hf, sb hubs
araya 7x in the front and a super 7x in the back
selle royal seat (off my cheapo mtb)
point seatpost (off my cheapo mtb)
dragonfly double bolt seatclamp

i basically needed my painted slam bar with the lever and grips for another bike, so i put the primo bar on the s&m. just so that i had a rideable bike.

edit :

oh ... and the black thing that hold the brake cable is a slightly modded (better velcro) khe gyrohood.

Here are two shots of my Dirtbike from '89 or '90. Not restored but pics nonetheless. It was in "street duty" in the pic where it was painted blue.

Man I wish I still had that thing!

Give me a few months, I'll have an old S&M dirt jumper ready to go

Here's a shot of a Dirtbike I sold two years ago to get a 1st year Holmes. Mid '90's with some early style Dirtbike decals. A bit to new for me.

If anyone has a genuine Dirtbike with those decals on it and you want some cash, let me know!!!

I don't have any close-ups but here's a late (1997) mid-school dirt jumper in action:

It was my first new school (at the time) 20" and something nice I could finally afford.

1997 Standard TRLS 250 - I was stoked on the color - tan but bummed as I wanted the TrailBoss graphics - but Robo left just before I got the frame and Standard changed the name
Standard fork
S&M Redneck Stem - or a Kink Crossbolt or maybe Standard - I can't remember
S&M Strip Bars - cut to 25.5"
TNT Revolvers laced to Sun BFR rims
Tioga Comp3 front and rear - what else would would be used on a mid-school dirt jumper?
Primo seat, seatpost and seatpost clamp
Old school RedLine cranks - single pinch bolt is all I can remember about them
New school RedLine chainring - ugly - I eneded up dremmel'ing the extra material and making it old school style.

Sorry I don't make it into the Mid School forum that much lately because I've become more of a racer but I rode the trails in the 90's and still do!

I had a chrome TAJ like that one up top but I actually broke the thing (I know I couldn't believe it either!). Yours looks nice! My favorite from that era though is just a straight up S&M Dirtbike/Holmes. I always look at them on ebay but have never brought myself to buy one. I actually had a GT Fueler for awhile which may seem cheesy but that was a very good bike. It got stolen out of my garage right in the middle of the day and I still miss that bike!

90's trails are my favorite era, favorite style, favorite everything! Racing is easier on the body at the momemt and I'm actually having some success at it, but flowing the trails is the most fun I have on my bike! My current racer is a 1997 S&M RV! All 26 pounds of it!
