I think the rooster h/t was more towards mid/late 90's. The real early ones had the john holmes caricture and the still early ones had the shield. The rooster came along a little before the next gen series. Even the NG Holmes originally had a rooster with NG behind it. I'm fairly sure on that, my 1" h/t holmes had a shield, so did my 1 1/8" with the "oversize" stickers still had a shield. Now my 3rd holmes and the ng holmes both had the rooster. I only have 1 sticker left of the rooster and 1 left of the ng rooster. Both of those are slated for later projects maybe, but are available for copy purposes if needed.
Which pitchfork stickers are you guys looking for? I doubt I have any left with the actual pitchfork on it, but know I have a lot of the devil ones still around.

I have a few early 90's GO issuses and all the
Holmes pics have the the Rooster headtube decal.
The stickers are all blk/white and the fork has
S&M in blk/wht also, they are pre pitchfork.
Some of the late 80's early 90's Maddogs and
Dirtbike used the sheild witch came back around
95 on all of them. I don't think they started the pitchfork stickers on the for till about 93-94.

I used to have a timeline with pics of all the different holmes through the years, damn computer crashed and lost them all though.
I know exactly what sticker set you are talking of, the all black/white, and there was also a red set. You are talking about the HOLMES ones right? Ones that had OVERSIZE on the t/t?
The first ones were all lower case and said holmes on the d/t. Had a cartoon drawing of J Holmes face and he was all ragged/drugged out looking on the h/t. C Moeller claims very-very few of these were made, but he wasnt sure on any real number. I cant remembver for sure, I spoke with him in 97' about this, but he may have claimed the John Holmes stickers may have lasted only 1 month? Someone else said it was discontinued due to copyright stuff, who knows. I have only seen 1 with those. Actually it was Moeller who gave me the time line of face/shield/rooster.
Then again I have had him tell me something then someone else say he told them something completely different, I'm not real sure he even knows himself a great deal about real early S&M stuff.

Ben is correct I think.
The first Holmes had all capital letters with the rooster Head tube sticker. I recently sold Ben a Holmes frame and fork from one of the first batches from Mad Dog. A local philly/DE guys who raced with a few co-sponsored S&M guys told them he was looking for a longer frame. They said Moeller just released the Holmes and he got it through them and then sold it to me two years ago. This is one of the first for sure:

The second year for the Holmes which was 91 or 92 I believe is the one with the lower case letters and the actual face on the head tube. I know because I ordered one when I outgrew my Dirtbike, I ordered a Holmes from Magoo at Mental Jimmyz and he talked me into waiting for the "new awesome" stickers. I got it and ripped the stickers off before I even had the bike put together. My opinion is that they sucked.
The year they changed the stickers, the frame also changed slightly. I know for sure the seat stays kind of came up and around the seat tube and welded on the side of it, not meeting right at the back of the seat tube like all the earlier S&M frames. Not sure what else was different.
BTW, the rooster in the pic up top has been around a while. You can see it is the same basic rooster as on the seat tube. That seat tube sticker also came on my Dirtbike which was from around 89 I believe. You can barely make it out in this pic:

There may indeed have been a "one-off" sticker set way early on. But I know the lower case HOLMES and the head on the head tube was after the stickers on the yellow one above.
Hope this heps some.

Cool, thx for the info Matt. I had never even seen that Rooster, or the one on the seat-tube.
Yes Ben, I would probably be interested in a set like that if you get them.
Matt do you have a decent pic of the Holmes face sticker? I had one but it was a real crappy pic.
We have talked about the differances in the same models of early S&M's before. I have 3 fairly early Holmes and each is different from the other. I think we may have settled on different co's making them. Word is a lot of people made s&m's in the early years.

Yes I'm definitely interested in a set or two. Along with matching era fork stickers.

Danno, the deal with S&M getting their stuff made by different companies, I agree, has a lot to do with little inconsistencies between years, serial numbers, whatever else. Revcore, Cooks Bros., GT, just to name a few.
Someone was selling an orange 92(?) Holmes with the face on it about 2 years ago on here. That's the last I saw a pic of one. I'm sure there's one in a mag somewhere.
