Now thinking about staying in the to dirt, that friggin concrete is hard OUCH,,,, and I'm old. Serial # M95080, whatever that means. Seams to me a very high quality frame. Might just hang it on the wall to stare at.

STAs are awesome. I have a '99 20.75 toptube STA and it rocks. The original white coat just won't come off! Evemn after applying tons of paint remove to remove the layers of other colors of paint.

This sta has a plastic like coat of finish on it. I have some oldschool frames that I had powder coated so I know what that is but this is different. I am unframilar with whatever it is. It is bright chrome under it not just raw metal. I have seen this finish on one other bmx product from around 1979or80 era with the chrome underneth just as this frmae and it was for sure a factory finish. The bike is heavy but a great feel. I cannot even ride the old schol stuf hardly, the geometery stink to this newer stuf.

I ran STA's for 2 years. On Concrete street riding, I was able to twist the back ends of 2 of them. Mainly because I was REALLY "clunky" and I rode like I was driving a monster truck!
Nothing rides like an STA. Buy it. One of my favorite all time frames.

The paint shop at Waterford was pretty incredible. The paint was a real problem at first but it excelled over time. I don't know about now but back then you could send in a swatch of color (anything really, even fabric from your couch!) and they would be able to match it. Even simulated textures!

Whoa! Welcome, Krt. I co-sign on the paint—I still have the first STA I bought new, and the paint is still great.
The R-Models, on the other hand...

Um, I mean I agree. Sorry. Haha.
Are you still riding? I pretty much have Style Cats memorized.

Yeah I do. I stay close to home though. Style Cats is one of my favorites too. It's cool to look back and see what a killer team we had back then!
Ahh. Those were the days....

Whatever happened to Joe Hurlburt? He did every rail in the midwest in that video, it seemed.

Joe lives in southern Idaho now. He moved there to ski more (which was his favorite thing to do besides rails) he's married and blah blah. I haven't spoken to him myself in years but my friend Scott has heard from him a few times.
I just transfered Style Cats and Rodgers Garage onto one DVD tonight. Maybe I'll rip the disk and put it up somewhere next week if anyone's interested. I've got to put together a disk someday of all the "behind the scenes" stuff...

That's good to know—his part was crazy. Please convince Rick to put out all the Standard stuff on DVD? BMX videos are seriously the only reason I still own a VCR.
Are you still riding a Standard these days?
Krt Schmidt
Dec 31 2005, 12:41 AM
I would but Rick and I don't talk anymore. I think either he will do it or I'll do it for myself and a select few (wink).
Of course I still ride a Standard! What do you think I'd ride? An friggin Huffy? Ha! I refuse to even consider all these ***** so-called "rider owned" things. All their frames are all the same anyways. I don't know how people choose between a Fly, Morales, T1, Miron or whatever... Might as well by a GT or a Haro. At least you know for sure what your getting. Crappola.
Wait I take that back. Wilkerson's bikes are pretty different. Hehee.... Not that there's anything wrong with it...

Figured you'd still be on a Standard—forgive me!—and I also figured you and Rick weren't necessarily friends. Oh well. I finally gave up my STA for a Fit, seeing that Edwin rides for them (and I could get one for next to nothing).
All Standard vids on DVD...please.
Wilkerson Airlines, haha. Pegs 3" below the front axle, sure!

What up Krt. Glad you registered for the site. Would love to hear more from you, and put me down for your "insider" DVD whenever you make it...
That's too bad that you and Rick are on the outs. Try to keep that door open. You guys made a heluva good team. Ever communicate with Marty Schlesinger? He was a local that I looked up to.

Me and WDS were just talking about this the other day. Companies can't even make different looking dropouts anymore! They all have to be just tiny, and they all look the same. That's kinda sad.

You know NER, this thread would be enhanced with a pic of that Alonzo Mourning SLAM cover...got one? If not, I'm gonna have to dig it out of my collection.

Really I could care less about what anyone rides. I just like stir up sh*t once and a while! Who's Alonzo? Marty lives in Plymouth Minnesota the last I heard working or owning some sort of video company. He and are were never friends. He was always a c*sucker to me when I was growing up.
Rick and are not really on the "outs" we just have gone different directions. No animosity here. Most of the people I used to hang around with (not Rick) ended up doing some pretty shady things behind my back.
I've actually been writing a book about the whole SBC thing for the last year and a half. I've talked to Taj about distributing it and Jamie McParland and I are also going to do an " Old School" Podcast. Mostly about Midwest stuff but I'll throw down some funny stories about some of freestyles biggest characters. There just isn't anything like that for BMX. I guess people are to busy riding to do a lame podcast right? Ha!

Um, Alonzo Mourning plays in the NBA. Sorry, I did make a 90-degree Left turn there, but Not Eddie Roman knows what I was referring to.
Yeah! Please do go ahead with your multi-media creations! You know that you are not going to ever hit the New York Times bestseller list, but there are a ton of us geeks who will line up to buy that sh*t!

No doubt. I guess my lack of NBA knowledge is shining through. I only know about K.G. anyways. He's big and rich.
