CAN ANYONE OUT THERE TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THESE FORKS(SUSPENSION)??

STOP YELLING!!!!! (Caps)

I had a set years ago when Dan's was dumping them for cheap. Rode them for a few days then took them off. Sold them for almost nothing last year.

They were very HEAVY and had just about 1" of travel. Kinda spongy because they were just springs (maybe rubber bumpers?) inside, not gas charged dampers like real mountain bike forks.

They were a bit flext but not too bad. They would not save your butt if you case a jump for sure.

Worthless in my opinion except as a footnote as a weird failed design.

And a lot of the pros who rode them back then had them pretty much locked solid.

Funny story I have from those days... I had a guy try to tell me that he had his Pro Forx revavled by Pro Circuit and how great they were... Blah blah blah.. Then I asked how much could they do with the spring and elastomer that were in there? He quietly walked away...

I remember those heavy f/n forks ! What was everyone thinking back then??

I rode for Answer back then, and actualy liked them. They were heavy. But it did help if you had a bad case, and smoothed out minor ones. They also help keep the front tire solid on the ground in turns. This was very noticable when I switched back to rigid forks. Rigid forks felt like my front tire was bouncing around in turns. Mostly good on bumpy tracks. Now tracks are so smooth that it would not do much good.

From the early to mid 90's I had lots of trouble with sprained wrists. I didn't want to quit riding to let them heal, so I just dealt with the pain and kept riding. Then came these stupid forks that just bounced as you rode them. I called them up and asked if they could give me a really stiff pair with a 5" steering tube to fit my schwinn sting. They sent me some, I rode them and my wrists healed.
I probably would not be riding today if it wasn't for answer pro-forx.
It's a shame they made those cheap aluminum crowns for them. My cruiser pro-forx got destroyed at the '96 grands. The steering tube for the sting tweaked a little and now the bearings bind up. Wish I could get the welded leg version with a 5" steerer tube.

Another thing I disliked about them was that I could not run a large flange hub with them. anything but a small flange hub and the spokes rubbed the inside of the fork legs.

anyone remember the rumors that pistol pete had his welded solid? it was when he won the grands the year they came out and he was paid to ride them! dont remember if they every proved if they were made to be rigid or not but funny rumor none the less.

They weren't welded solid.... But they were set so stiff they barely moved. I was on the Pro-Long team at that time and Pete would often pit with us.. I had checked out his bike several times that season...
