The year: 1992

I had just finished my first year of college after getting out of the Army. I was back up to my old tricks of ditching class to go ride My road bike or my mountain bike and decided to go back to my first love....BMX.

I got all the BMX Plus mags I could get my greedy little paws on and decided to build my dream bike.

Over the next year I bought every piece. Even the wheels were custom built. Then as soon as It was finished, within 6 months I lost interest and handed my prize over to my baby bro whom happily rode it for a year..... I never thought about it again.

I went to meet him for an afternoon MTB ride the other day and when he pulled up at the staging area, He had his 'Dale on one side... on the other had my Elf Double Cross.

Exactally as I left it with him almost 15 years ago. Right down to the Miami Vice color scheme. He said "Stephan's gonna be 10 in a few weeks, I thought he might like this"

Any one that knows BMX from the early 90's know that Elf was in the higher echelon... coveted by many and actually seen by fewer.

-Hand made Elf Double Cross XXL frame, forks, laid back 2pc seat post, and 6pc. Blast bars.
-DK XL headset and sealed mech "flip/flop" hubs
-Sun 38spk rims w/ double butted 15/16ga. spokes and aluminum nipples.
-GT power series 1pc cranks, pedals, and GT flight seat

It still has the original GT Megabite tires on it & and some stickers given to me by my buddy Ronnie Bonner from his then fledgeling company UGP (Underground Products)

I almost hate to give it up again.

This is exactally how it was pulled from his attic. I havent cleane a thing and the tires are both flat.

That is a cool story. I'm about to build up my cousins old '87 Haro Master and give it back to him. I don't have all the original parts, but I have enough. Stephan will really like that I'm sure, but he may want to change that pink chainwheel, LOL.

"he may want to change that pink chainwheel"

*LMAO* yeah, I'm gonna get a new 1 pc unit and tune it up. New rubber and grips cable and such. The thing has not one rust spot any where on it. it looks like it just came out of the box.

Cool! That's an awesome looking bike. I'd keep the pink chainwheel myself, but I'm not 10, and I can imagine a 10 year old wanting a black or blue one.

New guys get he coffee around here, I'll have a mocha frappuccino.

definately get yr own BMX bike, when I first intro'd my son at 5 he had no interest, even went so far as to get him an 86 all white DynoCompe, which he trashed & gave away last Christmas, in leiu of a mountain bike, now he's almost 13 & huh, he's been bit by the bug & wants a BMX bike, won't give him another vintage agian, my neighbor gave him a Mongoose Hoop-D frame, the one w/the square rear drop-outs, whatever yr. that is-told him to build it himself, maybe then he'll appreciate it & not get rid of it so willingly.
