Just purchased a GT interceptor and was wondering is it anything special? It still has all the reflectors and is a complete bike. The serial number is on the rear dropout and starts with 0193 and has stickers that says "made in the usa".

I used to have a 82 or 83 GT back in the day with flights, suzie hubs, DX's, mx 1000, etc. Wish I still had that one.

Well anyway I purchased it for 25.00 bucks

Also, what is the best way to remove light surface rust?

Thanks
cw
A '93(?), by '01 they were overseas(?).
So it's chrome then? If it's light rust as you say, try rubbing it down w/ a WD-40 soaked rag that has some kind of texture(like an old washcloth). Take care to try n keep the decals clean of the solvent. The more you soak the rust the more it will come off. When you get as much as you can, use a good chrome polish. If there is any rust left that should get it. Remember to keep using a clean part of the rag while polishing..

here is a picture of the bike. I think I'll try and sell it and purchase a newer cruiser.

that should actually be a USA made frame, january 1993. there is probably also an "I" stamped on the dropout somewhere near the serial number which designates it being an "Interceptor".

what else could it be? a Mach One?

I have a mid school GT f/f that someone can have for cheap. It is in rough shape though (see pics)

Hmmmm... after comparing the pics, I see that mine is a little different. Looks like my seat stays wrap around the seat mast/top tube junction.
Anyone know for sure what mine is? I thought it was an Interceptor.

The way the top tube ends flat (rather than angled) just beyond the seat stays, leads me to believe you have an older GT.

I'm thinking of selling it on EBAY as a complete bike. If it doesn't sell I may part it out. Not sure if I should sell the DX pedals with the bike or by themselves.
