hey guys/gals,

sorry to say/the mid school era was when i started raising my family, etc,.i did still follow some, but not so much.

so, when did the whole v-brake,1 1/8"threadless headtube start around? I vaguely remember hoffman saying they were going to do it, & it would be revolutionary. I think that was in an issue of go!, with Galen Starlin on the front( 1991?)

I don't know about V-brakes, becuase many companies were already running cantis when the V-brake came along...

But, I am pretty sure the first company with a 1 1/8 threadless set up was Standard. Although, Diamondback was playing with a 1 1/8 threaded set up, it died quickly as threadless became available.

i do think that the first threadless bike was the GT Fueler threadless and canti mounts around 92 93 standard was still making threaded bikes at that time

I remember seeing the aluminum Powerlite P-61 (?) in a bmx plus test. It was the first I saw in the aluminum/canti/threadless style. The test was around 1992-1994ish.
Granturismo
I was also thinking the GT Fueler was the first bmx bike to use both.

it was the fueler cuz i got rid of mine when the Standard BMX frame came out

The 1 1/8 thing all happened with most companies over a year period about 94-95'. There were a few before but everybody changed about that time.

The V-brakes were just an upgrade Shimano did in 95' on the canti thing.

I had a P-61 with the 1 1/8 threadless... It was my first purchase when I got my bike shop job. I just seem to remember Standard coming out with the 1 1/8 threadless first..

i believe the gt fueler was the first to use the 1 1/8 stem and canti mounts. i remember seeing tests of it in bmx magazines around 1993 ??? i read somewhere that it was the first bmx frame to use "mountain bike technology" lol.
btw, i am currently building up a 94 fueler!!!

1981 RRS had canti mounts.
MIKEBIKE

I had a 1994 Gt cruiser. It still had 1" threaded forks
& caliper brakes. I also had a 1995 GT cruiser. It also had a 1" fork, but had canti mounts. I think it was 96 or 97 when GT went to a 1 1/8 headtube.

The Cook uni-clamp came out in 1979. There were also some companies that were messing around 1" threadless in the early 90's.

Didn't the Redline Platinum Edition frameset from the Early 90's have a !" threadless?
3rd gear
S&M had a 1 inch threadless ... and I think the first bike was the P-61... I had to buy one just for the stem...I had a custom made Rubicon alum. frame made for me ,I had JAD build the forks and stems were not available unless you bought the P-61 kit...
I know waste of money , but that Rubicon Frame ROCKED!!!
