I plan to do a "drive-by" today or tomorrow of Baypoint Beach. I will take pics of the surroundings and post them here to give others an idea about the setting.

Sound good?

11 more days

Just got back from Stoney.

Here are some pictures of Baypoint Beach, inside Stoney Creek Metropark. The grass is plush and green and soft. The place looks great. These pictures were all taken while standing in the area we have reserved. smile.gif

So.....what do you guys think? Looks pretty cool, eh???

Yes, yes, yes! Sunny and 81 degrees!

I hope we have a nice turnout. If so, maybe we can make it more of an "official" gathering next Summer.
KchesterZ
Nice turnout. I had a great time. A big THANK YOU to Tom for setting up the meet. And also for the dogs and beer. lol

Good turnout. Saw a lot of nice bikes and met some really cool guys.

If it happens again next year, maybe I'll actually have something to show/ride. sun_bespectacled.gif

Thanks for the beer and dogs. It was great meeting with you KchesterZ, Radlad1, RACEINC43, MotorCityMongoose and all the rest. I was hoping to go to the skate park in Dearborn Hts. but had a bunch of stuff to do when I got home.

If anyone planes on going to the skate park or a group ride sometime let me know I wouldn't mind going and maybe bring a bike or two.

Big props to Tom for setting this up. drinks.gif
Had a great time and met some cool guys, it's always nice to put a face with a name, even tho' I remember more of the screen names than actual names. unsure.gif
I can see this getting bigger in the future.

Next time I'll make sure to have enough time to do the 'ride around the park', that looked like fun.

Looking at all the builds and survivors lit a fire under me to get my bikes done. I'll definetely have a couple for next time; look out Ebay and you snipers, here I come......

Hey jbros, how do you really feel about Toby's old cruiser???? LOL.

jbros125
I know I said it a bunch of times!! laugh.gif I'm telling you though it was the one of most unreal momments in my life. The guy that owns it is real cool. His screen name is 3rd gear or something like that. I walked over to the bike at rockford and thought man sweet hutch cruiser. Then he starts pointing out stuff and tells me it is the bike from the cover shot on BMXA. I am thinking to myself that I have read that article a 1000 times and that would mean the bike is Toby Hendersons bike!

I just couldn't believe it!! I later saw on Ebay that it was for sale. I would have gave my testicles for that bike. I don't need them anymore I have two kids already. biggrin.gif

I want to say I really had a great time talking to all of you. Sorry If I ramble on when talking to everybody. I just get excited to be around people that don't think I am nuts for loving "little bikes". Next year we are making FISH Jump a shark in the lake!

This really was a fun event, wasn't it? Laid back, relaxing, talking to the Germans about "kids bicycles" (remember that old dude? laugh.gif )

I really want to thank everyone for taking the time to drive out to Baypoint Beach. I think it was a good 'first attempt' and it was definitely something we can build on for next year.

Things I was thinking about adding would include:
  • roping off an area of that HUGE parking lot for flatland riding
  • having 'official' chow
  • sponsors
  • awards - but not typical awards. awards for unique things related to the day

I liked the fact that several people brought their families. That makes it an even better atmosphere.

Oh...and I wanted to mention that I have already booked those four HOT 18-year olds for next Summer. They will throw their football in bikinis for us all day again. smile.gif

Okay, now that I have some pics posted I can say a few words. First, much thanks to Tom(Keep_It_Warm) for setting this up, filling out the special event form for the park, posting pics of the event area beforehand, and posting info and details about this gathering on the "Big 3" BMX websites. Much appreciated.

Second, I had a blast!!! I really had an awesome time and loved talking to everyone about bikes, BMX, and the BMX websites. I liked seeing a variety of bikes and hearing some of the stories behind the bikes. Everyone was cool to talk to and to see people and the kids riding around, jumping the black plastic ramp, and bunnyhopping over the bunnyhop stand was just soooo awesome. Both my friends Gene and Joe that came with me said they had a great time and a blast like I did.

I would definately like to do this next year for sure. Both my friends said next year they would be there and bring even more bikes. Maybe next year though, we could do a date that doesn't conflict with as much other stuff and possibly have an even bigger turnout. I know this last weekend was the Woodward Dream Cruise, Armada Fair, Nascar at Brooklyn, and BrianP's BMX gathering. Maybe even do it on a Sunday since alot of people work on Saturdays. I'll come no matter what day, but it's just food for thought.

Again, I had alot of fun and hopefully I'll see everyone again next year and it will be even bigger and better!!! biggrin.gif

Looks like a good time! Next year try not to schedule it on a state race weekend so I can be there.
Keep_It_Warm
Next year, it will NOT be on Woodward Cruise day either.

what a beautiful location for a gathering

the cruise would have been cool also. to much traffic or eye candy?

Not at all Bob....we were about 15 miles from the cloest point of Woodward Avenue, but the fact that we did it the same day definitely kept some members from attending the gathering. Woodward totally dominates southeast Michigan on that day.
