A bunch of us are thinking about bringing some VBMX flavor to the annual Jimmy's Old Car picnic in Golden Gate Park.

Jimmy's Old Car Picnic

The car show is laid back and casual and since it's in the park, on the grass it really is a picnic. Bring the family, dog, chicken or whatever you have and just hang out.

I'm not planning on trophys or anything organized - just bring your bikes and/or hot rod and hangout.

Don't miss my favorite - the Red Baron Rat Rod.

Post up here if you think you'll come. Based on the expected turnout, I'll talk to the event coordinators about where is best to setup.

Hope you can make it!

Maurice

Sounds interesting drob.

Hey Mo I think that's my old buddy Guido's Red Baron car...
I'll come hang out - BBQ is always cool with me!
wagonguy
Will there be a pen to keep the chickens in?
Paperboy
Yep, I'll be there.

Coolness. It's on. Tummler, you'll have to introduce me to your buddy so I can give him the props he deserves. That's been my favorite car since the first time I saw it. Before I heard the term "Rat Rod". How cool can you get turning the first Hot Wheel into real life?

I'd love to open up on some the drivers around here with that gattling gun!

Wagonguy, no pen and I can't really say if leash laws apply to chickens. Could be an issue...

Mo -

If you ever go to Bottom of the Hill to see a show, there's a door guy there by the name of Guido (seriously).

I think he still works there - I used to work there for years with him, but I haven't seen him in a long time.
He's got hella cars, dude - all cool, too.

I'm sure he'll be at the show.

You planning to grill out, or should we all bring our own apparatus, etc?
Paperboy
While we're waiting for this event, anyone going to Tour de Fat?

Tummler415
Aw man!
I'd go to that but I'll be chillin' in Tahoe that weekend...
Maurice Meyer
Butch,

That looks cool. I'll probably roll out there unless the ol' lady signs me up for something! I'm usually down to hit the park around 11 or 12 when the boy takes a nap. You going?

Tummler,

I'm up for some queuing but I don't have the mini que myself. Might have to borrow one unless anyone wants to bring one. I'll at least be stocking a cooler.

If you worked at Bottom of the Hill, you must know people I know. I grew up on the hill - Kansas and Mariposa - that's where I rode bikes as a kid. It's been a while since I've been to the Bottom of the Hill club though. I think it was Bryce Kanights' 40th birthday which was a few years ago. Great party.

Yeah, I think we need to get some city rides going too. I miss the days of just going out to the park on Sunday knowing there would be a group of riders.
Paperboy
Yep, I'm going. I haven't missed a Tour de Fat yet.

Mo -
I'm always down for a Sunday GGP ride.
I take my son there a few Sundays a month.

I was at BK's party too yeah.

I just got back from Truckee, hung out with my friend Ed who said he met you at Roseville. Said you were one of the nicer guys he met...
Paperboy
It would be cool if you all can make it Sunday.
Maurice Meyer
Right on Tummler. Thanks for the nice words. That was a blast. Yeah, I figured we had to have been around the same scene. Did you catch Bryce's pictures of Joe's ramp jam from 1984 that I posted a while back?

Butch, I'm going out to that Tour de Fat on Saturday. Probably earlyish like between 10 and 11. You going?
Tummler415
Yep, those pix ruled, Mo.
I still have all of my old Thrasher mags, etc.

I'd join you guys this weekend but I'm going up to Truckee again tomorrow night & won't be back until very late Sunday night.
If you guys take pics, please post them.
I'm sure there will be plenty of weird frankenbikes, etc.
Maurice Meyer
Hey, just wanted to see who's into coming out to the old car picnic. It's next Sunday. I'm going either way with my car and the cruiser to tool around and play a little. Depending on how many people are into it, I'll bring more stuff. Don't want to be the only guy at the car show with little kids' bikes! Ha.

By the way, if anyone feels like hanging in the park this Sunday - 10/7, I'll be out there around 1 to 3 or so while the boy naps. Usually just over at the bridge on JFK drive where the swing dancers are - by the museums.

Good, good! I'll be there will bells on and as many old rides as I can make fit in an on my hatch-back Civic.

I think we should also include a buy-sell-trade facet. I'm not much for selling, but I love to trade, and I've got a bunch of stuff I'll bring.

Can't wait.

And thanks for doing the organizing, Maurice!

Cheers,
Frazer

couple questions:

What time? Sunrise to sunset is too long for me :-) I'm going to plan for 11ish, unless I hear otherwise. And where, persicely?

and will we be inside the old car area that costs $20 to get into, or outside and free?

Cheers,
Frazer
Maurice Meyer
11 is probably good. It sounds like a bunch of car guys in the Sunset are going to posse up early in traditional form. I'm going to try to get up for that but if I don't make it, I'll at least be out there by 11. We'll be in the old car area but that's only $20 if you want to bring your car in. It's free to all spectators. If you have more than you can carry in one run from your car, give me a call and if someone is there to watch my stuff I can come help.

So, who else is coming?

Stevie Caballero knows what's up...

my buddy Rick and I stopped in during our California trip. The cars were cool, but the few bikes that were there were worth the trip.

Here are the guys BS'in about the bikes and the good old days of the Curb Dogs

The whole field of cars, and a few bikes

The original Curb Dog bikes

and all the bikes

Anyone talk to Guido or any of the Road Devils or...any of the Swanx? I am old school SF car culture. Ask Guido who helped him in his early years with his cars(he used to be a RenFair guy) and he'll tell you the guy's name is Johnny Ford. That is me. I was at Jimmy's ten years plus ago. I'm a 48th Ave, in between P and Q guy. I miss the city...

I hope you guys all had a blast. Maurice, a mile or so(OK, maybe two miles or so) East and you would have been at your old riding turf... I remember you guys tearing up trees on the panhandle...

Hope you had a great time!
